Amsterdam is one of the most popular travel destinations in the world famous for its beautiful canals, top art museums, cycling culture and so on. It is the capital city of the Netherlands and often referred to as the “Venice of the North” because of its expansive system of bridges and canals. Here are some of the key points to remember as you plan your trip to Amsterdam.
    Must-See Attractions
Most visitors begin their Amsterdam adventure in the Old Centre, which is full of traditional architecture, shopping centers, and coffee shops. You’ll also want to check out Amsterdam’s Museum Quarter in the South District, which is great for shopping at the Albert Cuyp Market and having a picnic in the Vondelpark. The top museums to visit there are the Rijksmusuem, the Ann Frank House, and the Van Gogh Museum.
    If You Have Time
There are several other unique districts in Amsterdam, and you should try to explore as many of them as time allows. The Canal Ring is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that was originally built to attract wealthy home owners and is a center for celebrity spotting and nightlife today. The Plantage area has most of the city’s museums and the botanical gardens.
    Money Saving Tips
●Unless you really want to see the tulips(郁金香) blooming, avoid booking between mid-March and mid-May. This is when hotel and flight prices rise.
●Look for accommodations in Amsterdam’s South District, where rates are generally cheaper than in the city center.
●Buy train tickets at the machine instead of the counter to save a bit of money.
●Instead of hiring a tour guide, hop on a canal boat. They’re inexpensive and will give you a unique point of view of the city.
Check out our homepage to view price comparisons for flights, hotels, and rental cars before you book.

    C. The Old Centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
    D. Amsterdam is called the “Venice of the North” because of its location.
    2. In order to save money in Amsterdam, you can ________.

    A. A magazine. B. An essay. C. A report. D. A website.
    【答案】1 A 2. C 3. D

It was late on a Thursday evening in Austin, Texas, and I had just finished my shift downtown waiting tables. I hopped into my truck and headed away from the chaos to my own personal oasis, Dan’s Depot. It was on a four-lane road that went straight from the heart of Austin to West Texas. Once, Dan’s Depot had been outside of the city. But with Austin’s population growing and the city’s expansion, it was swallowed up by high-rise buildings and skyscrapers.
I’ve been familiar with Dan’s Depot since I played my first show there. Like most waiters in Austin, I’m actually a musician. The woman who welcomes customers is Dan’s wife Maude.
I slid my truck into the last free spot and headed to the door. “How’s it going, Maude?” I asked. “David, I just don’t know what we’re going to do,” she said. “Our contract with the landlord is up for renewal at the end of the month, and he has doubled the rent. Even if we charged twice as much for the snacks and shows, we could never make ends meet.”
My heart dropped. On some level, I’d been expecting to hear this news for as long as I’d been coming to Dan’s Depot. After all, Dan’s Depot was now sandwiched between a shop selling yoga pants to people who could afford personal trainers and a luxury furniture store where even a simple dining chair cost more than S1, 000. How could this little live music bar survive with those kinds of neighbors?
“What are you going to do with this place? Are you moving?” I asked. She shook her head slowly. “I just don’t know. Dan and I are not as young as we used to be.”
I patted her on the shoulder and made my way to the tables near the stage. Memories sprung up in my mind. Most of my musical ideas came to me while I was watching live shows here at Dan’s Depot. When the song ended, I got up and went back to Maude.
“What if I run the new Dan’s Depot?” I asked her. She stared at me surprised.
“Hear me out,” I said. “I’ve got enough money to go in with you and Dan as a third partner. I know the Texas music scene in and out, and I can get the best new bands in here every week. We’ll move it way down South Congress Avenue, where it’s still close enough to be accessible from downtown but the rent is more affordable. And most importantly, this place means a lot to me.”
Maude was still staring at me silently. I began to grow uneasy. Had I offended her? I started apologizing. She cut me off with a huge embrace. “Honey, I think that’s a fantastic idea.”
    4. The underlined word “oasis” in Paragraph 1 refers to a place where the author ________.
    A. parks his truck B. finds joy and relaxation
    C. works full-time D. grabs a meal at night
    5. Why did the author say he had long expected to hear the news Maude told him?
    A. He pointed out Dan’s Depot was in poor management
    B. He felt the sandwiches in Dan’s Depot were too expensive.
    C. He thought Dan’s Depot was out of tune with its surroundings.
    D. He suggested Dan and Maude retire early and enjoy their lives.
    6. What does the author advise Maude to do?
    A. Sell Dan’s Depot to him. B. Hire him as a lead singer.
    C. Find another way to run the business. D. Advertise for a third partner.
    7. Which statement is probably true according to the passage?
    A. The author’s words offended Maude.
    B. The author gave his advice immediately.
    C. The author worked as a waiter in Dan’s Depot.
    D. The author drew musical inspiration from Dan’s Depot.
B 5. C 6. C 7. D
由第一段中的“It was late on a Thursday evening in Austin, Texas, and I had just finished my shift downtown waiting tables. I hopped into my truck and headed away from the chaos to my own personal oasis, Dan’s Depot. (德克萨斯州奥斯汀的一个星期四晚上,时间已经很晚了,我刚结束在市中心的轮班。我跳上卡车,离开混乱,前往我自己的私人oasis——Dan’s Depot)”和第四段中的“How could this little live music bar survive with those kinds of neighbors? (这家小小的现场音乐酒吧怎么能与这些邻居共存?)”可知,作者下班之后开车离开混乱的地方,去现场音乐酒吧Dan’s Depot,应该是去放松自己的,oasis意为“可以找到快乐和放松(finds joy and relaxation)的地方”。故选B项。
    【5题详解】
推理判断题。由第四段中的“On some level, I’d been expecting to hear this news for as long as I’d been coming to Dan’s Depot. After all, Dan’s Depot was now sandwiched between a shop selling yoga pants to people who could afford personal trainers and a luxury furniture store where even a simple dining chair cost more than S1, 000. How could this little live music bar survive with those kinds of neighbors?
由倒数第三段中的““What if I run the new Dan’s Depot?” I asked her. (“如果我经营新的Dan’s Depot怎么样?”我问她)”和倒数第二段““Hear me out,” I said. “I’ve got enough money to go in with you and Dan as a third partner. I know the Texas music scene in and out, and I can get the best new bands in here every week. We’ll move it way down South Congress Avenue, where it’s still close enough to be accessible from downtown but the rent is more affordable. And most importantly, this place means a lot to me.”(“听我说,”我说。“我有足够的钱,加入你和丹作为第三个合作伙伴。我了解得克萨斯州的音乐界,每周都能请到最好的新乐队来。我们会把它搬到南国会大道,那里离市中心很近,但租金更便宜。最重要的是,这个地方对我来说意义重大。”)”可知,作者建议莫德换一种方式来经营Dan’s Depot,倒数第二段讲了具体的新经营策略。故选C项。
    【7题详解】
细节理解题。由第六段中的“Most of my musical ideas came to me while I was watching live shows here at Dan’s Depot. (当我在Dan’s Depot观看现场演出时,我想到了我的大部分音乐想法)”可知,作者从Dan’s Depot这个地方获得了音乐灵感。故选D项。
    C
Please don’t feel singled out, special, or view yourself as a chosen one. She bites everyone. This is just the nature of the beast. There is absolutely no truth to the persistent myths that mosquitoes fancy females over males, that they prefer blondes and redheads over those with darker hair or that the darker or rougher your skin, the safer you are from her bite. It is true, however, that she does play favorites and feasts on some more than others.
Blood type O seems to be the choice over types A and B or AB. People with blood type O get bitten twice as often as those with type A, with type B falling somewhere in between.
Those who have higher natural levels of certain chemicals in their skin, particularly lactic acid (乳酸), also seem to be more attractive. From these elements, she can analyze which blood type you are. These are the same chemicals that determine an individual’s level of skin bacteria and unique body smell.
Mosquitoes are also attracted by perfumes, soaps, and other applied fragrances. While this may seem unfair to many of you, she also has a desire for beer drinkers.
Wearing bright colors is also not a wise choice, since she hunts by both sight and smell, the latter depending chiefly on the amount of carbon dioxide sent out by the potential target. So she can smell carbon dioxide from over 200 feet away. When you exercise, for example, you emit more carbon dioxide through both breath and output. You also sweat, releasing those appetizing chemicals, primarily lactic acid, that invites the mosquito’s attention.
Lastly, your body temperature rises, which is an easily identifiable heat signature. On average, pregnant women suffer twice as many bites, as they have a slightly raised body temperature.
Please don’t go on a shower, exercise or give up your beloved beer and bright T-shirts just yet. Unfortunately, 85% of what makes you attractive to mosquitoes is fixed in advance in your genetic circuit board (电路板). At the end of the day, she will find blood from any exposed target of opportunity.
    8. What is the purpose of the first paragraph?
    A. To explain the reasons for mosquito bites.
    B. To introduce a new discovery to the readers.
    C. To prove that everyone suffers mosquito bites.
    D. To arouse the interest of the readers in the topic.
    9. Which element has nothing to do with mosquito bites?
    A. Blood type. B. Chemicals of bacteria.
    C. Color of clothes. D. Body temperature.
    10. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
    A. All the mosquito bites are caused by your genetic circuit board.
    B. Your blood will be targeted by mosquitoes at every opportunity.
    C. Mosquito bites can be avoided if you give up some relevant habits.
    D. Your genes determine your attractiveness to mosquitoes to a great extent.
    11. What is the most suitable title for the passage?
    A. Keep off Mosquitoes B. Why are You a Mosquito Feeder
    C. Mosquitoes, a Threat to Our Health D. How to Avoid being Bitten by Mosquitoes
D 9. B 10. D 11. B
(蚊子咬每个人。这就是野兽的本性。关于蚊子喜欢雌性而不是雄性的说法是绝对不正确的;它们更喜欢金发和红发,而不是深色头发;或者你的皮肤越黑或粗糙,你就越安全。然而,她确实更喜欢叮咬一些人,这是真的)”可知,这是在和第一段上文“Please don’t feel singled out, special, or view yourself as a chosen one. (请不要觉得自己被孤立、很特别,也不要认为自己是被选中的人)”构成对比,使读者对蚊子为什么会更喜欢叮咬一些人而产生探索兴趣。故选D项。
    【9题详解】
细节理解题。由第二段中的“Blood type O seems to be the choice over types A and B or AB. (O型血似乎比A型和B型或AB型血更受蚊子的亲睐)”,第五段中的“Wearing bright colors is also not a wise choice, since she hunts by both sight and smell, the latter depending chiefly on the amount of carbon dioxide sent out by the potential target. (穿着鲜艳的颜色也不是一个明智的选择,因为蚊子通过视觉和嗅觉进行狩猎,后者主要取决于潜在目标释放的二氧化碳量)”和第六段中的“Lastly, your body temperature rises, which is an easily identifiable heat signature. (最后,你的体温升高,这是一个容易识别的热信号)”可知,血型、衣服颜色和体温都会对蚊子是否叮咬有影响,只有B选项“细菌的化学物质”没有关系。故选B项。
    【10题详解】
推理判断题。由最后一段中的“Unfortunately, 85% of what makes you attractive to mosquitoes is fixed in advance in your genetic circuit board (电路板). (不幸的是,你是否会吸引蚊子叮咬,85%都是由你的遗传电路板提前决定的)”可知,很大程度上来说,一个人的基因决定了他是否会吸引蚊子的叮咬。故选D项。
    【11题详解】
主旨大意题。由第一段中的“It is true, however, that she does play favorites and feasts on some more than others. (然而,蚊子确实更喜欢叮咬一些人,这是真的)”和下文具体介绍了有些人会吸引蚊子叮咬的原因可知,这篇文章主要是在向读者说明为什么有些人会吸引蚊子叮咬,B项“为什么你是蚊子喂食者”符合文意。故选B项。
    D
Quite often, no matter how good you are, your success is dependent on how other people such as your boss, peers, clients and customers perceive(感知) your communication and responses.
So when you come to people who make the key difference between helping you or holding you back how can you influence and persuade them to give what you want?
Psychological research repeatedly shows that people generally make up their minds whether to help or hinder(阻碍) you, based on whether they like you or not. It is human nature. What can you do about it? You need to make a good impression on others to ensure they like you and give you what you want. Research again shows that people give opportunities to the people they like best. In fact, most people make up their minds about other people in the first five minutes or less of meeting someone. These are called first impressions or “moments of truth”.
Once they make up their minds, they tend to be very reluctant to change their opinions. You hardly have room for error when making a first impression on a new acquaintance. Therefore, whether you are applying for a job, going for an interview, attending a meeting with your boss or peers, or serving a customer, you need to prepare yourself mentally and rehearse how you will manage the first few minutes of your interaction. This includes doing your homework to gather information and researching all possible issues so you will know how to address them if the other party should raise them unexpectedly.
It is amazing how poorly some people can come across at the beginning. The worst thing is that they do not even seem to realize it. Despite having good qualifications and excellent work performance, the candidates cannot be excused from trying to make good first impressions.
    12. Which of the following is the way people tend to decide whether to like other people or not?
    A. They make quick decisions.
    B. They change their opinions frequently.
    C. They prefer people who are experienced.
    D. They pay much attention to good qualifications.
    13. Which of the following strategies might help in an interview according to the author?
    A. Show your friendliness and confidence.
    B. Ask the interviewers for homework to do.
    C. Know as much as possible about the situation.
    D. Do something unexpected to impress the interviewers.
    14. What is the passage mainly about?
    A. Making a good first impression. B. Approaches to applying for a job.
    C. People making the key difference. D. Winning strategies for a job interview.
    15. What will probably be talked about in the next part of the passage?
    A. Questions that might be asked by the interviewers.
    B. How to win over people who don’t like you at first.
    C. Examples of how good first impressions help people succeed.
    D. Some specific advice on how to make a good first impression.
A 13. C 14. A 15. D
根据文章第三段“In fact, most people make up their minds about other people in the first five minutes or less of meeting someone. These are called first impressions or “moments of truth”.(事实上,大多数人在认识一个人的前五分钟或更短的时间内就对他/她做出了决定。这些被称为第一印象或“真心话时刻”。)”可知,快速做决定是人们倾向于决定是否喜欢别人的方式。故选A项。
根据文章第四段“Therefore, whether you are applying for a job, going for an interview, attending a meeting with your boss or peers, or serving a customer, you need to prepare yourself mentally and rehearse how you will manage the first few minutes of your interaction. This includes doing your homework to gather information and researching all possible issues so you will know how to address them if the other party should raise them unexpectedly.(因此,无论你是申请一份工作,去面试,与你的老板或同事开会,还是为客户服务,你都需要在心理上做好准备,并演练你将如何处理与人交往的前几分钟。这包括在收集信息上做一番功课以及研究所有可能的问题,这样你就知道在对方意外提出问题时如何处理。)”可知,尽可能多地了解情况可能对面试有帮助。故选C项。
    【14题详解】
    主旨大意题。分析全文内容可知,文章主要介绍了在人际交往中给别人留下第一印象非常重要,以及应该注意哪些方面,所以A项“留下良好的第一印象”能概括全文主要内容。故选A项。
根据文章最后一段“It is amazing how poorly some people can come across at the beginning. The worst thing is that they do not even seem to realize it. Despite having good qualifications and excellent work performance, the candidates cannot be excused from trying to make good first impressions.(令人惊讶的是,有些人一开始会给人留下糟糕的印象。

固定搭配be used to doing sth.
故去掉for。
强调句型It isn’t/wasn’t until +被强调部分+ that +其它部分。故将when改为that。
    8. 考查代词。句意:所以请原谅我的轻率。此处指代“我的”,用形容词性物主代词my。故将your改为my。
    9. 考查冠词。句意:这件事提醒我,学习文化差异对我来说是一件非常重要的事情。此处泛指“一件提醒人的事物”,reminder以辅音音素开头,用不定冠词a。故在reminder前面加a。
    10. 考查主谓一致。句意:这件事提醒我,学习文化差异对我来说是一件非常重要的事情。that引导同位语从句,从句主语为动名词短语learning cultural differences,从句谓语单数形式,一般现在时,系动词用is。故将are改为is。
    第三部分:写作(满分25分)

    注意:1.词数100左右;

    【答案】Dear Tom,
How time flies! It is nearly a month since you went to Beijing. How’s everything going? Have you adapted to the cold and dry weather there, which is different from that of your country? I am delighted to tell you that I will participate in an English speech contest in Beijing this winter holiday. It is a great opportunity for me to improve my English abilities. And now I try my best to make preparations for it. However, I have some trouble in collecting the relevant materials. I will appreciate it if you could offer me some guidance on how to use language properly. I have been missing you since you left. So, I’m going to call on you after the contest.
    Yours,
    Li Hua
    适应:adapt to→adjust to
    参加:participate in→take part in
    比赛:contest→competition
    拜访:call on→pay a visit to
It is a great opportunity for me to improve my English abilities. And now I try my best to make preparations for it.
Because it is a great opportunity for me to improve my English abilities, now I try my best to make preparations for it.
1】Have you adapted to the cold and dry weather there, which is different from that of your country?
2】I will appreciate it if you could offer me some guidance on how to use language properly.
