    Part 1
俗话说:“well begun is half done!”(好的开头就成功了一半)。

    Part 2

    Part 3
Carefully, he stepped over all the broken glass.
Joyfully ,he skipped up the street.

But no more helicopters came and it was getting dark again.
Immediately, an absolute darkness ruled the forest.

    Part 4
Curious to know what was inside, he tiptoed into the dark cave.
He was curious to know what was inside, and he tiptoed into the dark cave.

Unable to say a word, he was rooted to the spot.

Suddenly a little rabbit jumped out in front of my horse.

Afraid that I might hurt the lovely small creature, I automatically let out a cry to stop my horse.

We had no idea where we were and it got dark.

Exhausted and hungry, I wondered if we could find our way back.

    Part 5
Looking around him cautiously, he slipped into the room and softly closed the door.

But no more helicopters came and it was getting dark again.

Feeling disappointed, Jane had to stay alone for another night.

It was daybreak when Jane woke up.
Feeling refreshed, she continued to walk along the stream to find the way out.

    Part 6

先看一个例句:“Let’s see who gets there first!” Rachel shouted, as she pedaled fast and zoomed past Jenny.“让我们看看谁先到那里去!”

The car abruptly stopped in front of him.

Get into the car." Paul shouted at Mac.  “上车!” 保罗对麦克喊道。

    Part 7

We drove through several states and saw lots of great sights along the way(我们开车穿过了几个州,沿途看到了很多好风景。)

I looked out of the car window, winding rivers, lofty mountains, sunny beaches and deep valleys, holding me entirely in their fascination.

    Part 8
Furry started wagging his tail and running around in circles when he saw his master taking a leash out from the drawer. Furry was all ready for his evening walk.

The next day we remembered the brand-new tent we had brought with us.(第二天,我们想起了我们带来的那个全新的帐篷。)

Dad exchanged a glance with me. Why not camp to satisfy Mom?

In 2000, when I was around seven years old, all my family were coming back from a T-ball game, which was our usual weekend adventure, but unlike every other weekend, a surprise was waiting for us in our driveway—two adult geese and a small goose. Obviously startled by our return, the adults flew away in panic, with their baby, too young to fly, left in place, tiny and delicate.
Hours passed one after another, and night eventually fell. However, with it also came a deep chill and a fear of watchful animals. It was apparent that the gosling needed protection, warmth, and food to make it to the morning, so we had to help it, and we brought him onto our back yard.
We all pretty much slept with one eye open till morning came. And then another morning. And still another. Each morning, we would try to drive the goose away to his parents, who kept coming back to our yard. He wouldn’t go to them, though, and neither would they come close enough to claim him. We kept this up for five days, but no luck. Realizing the young goose had clearly decided we were his family by then, we had to give him a name, calling the little guy Peeper, because he would often follow us around the yard making a peeping(唧唧叫) noise, nonstop. Besides, we decided that Peeper was a boy. I don’t know why; it just felt right.
A year passed and we settled into a routine. Peeper slept on our back yard each night and, in typical goose fashion, used it as a latrine(公共厕所). My dad would spray off all the goose droppings daily. Part of this ceremony included Dad throwing Peeper up into the air so he could flap its wings and flew a loop(圈) around the house, and then came back again once the porch was clean.
Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months.
    Paragraph 1:
Before we knew it, the little thing had grown into a big bird with two powerful wings.
    _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Paragraph 2:
It came as a total surprise to me when, in 2020, an adult goose made his way back to my family home.
    _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________参考答案:
    Paragraph1:
Before we knew it, the little thing had grown into a big bird with two powerful wings. One day, when Dad threw Peeper into the air, he just flew away and didn’t come back. With night falling, all of us became increasingly worried. We looked for him, called his name and even peeped like him, anxiously expecting his return. But the special buddy never appeared again. Suddenly losing the special companion, everyone was very, very sad. It took a long time before we accepted the fact that he was missing. Meanwhile, we could only pray he found his parents and went off on his natural way. Twenty years passed, and Peeper became a fond memory for my family.
    Paragraph 2:
It came as a total surprise to me when, in 2019, an adult goose made his way back to my family home. He did all of the same things Peeper used to do in Peepers old ways, and much to my surprise, he even responded to the name Peeper. It became clear to me that my old best friend had returned, 20 years later. This experience has been as meaningful to me as anything in my life. Looking beyond our reach high in the sky, birds have feelings like human beings, so do many other living things. We human beings should learn to get along well with them. We need each other’s care and protection.

Daniel got a job as a delivery man to work his way through college. His parents couldn’t save up all the money he needed to get into law school, so since he was 15, he would take summer jobs and find some other jobs between studies to earn extra cash.
The boy was determined and every day he would wake up at 5 a.m., summer or winter, riding on his old bike to deliver parcels. It wasn’t an easy job, especially during winter. Besides that, his old bike was slow, making things harder. But that wasn’t a problem for Daniel.
Daniel’s schedule was always the same every day and people in the neighborhood already knew him.
He called them by their names, and they would often wave and greet him as he passed.
It was a normal day and Daniel was delivering parcels as usual. “Morning, Daniel! Check out my brand-new mountain bike!” called out a man whose home Daniel visited frequently. “Morning, Mr. Warren! That’s a really fancy bike!” Daniel screamed back at him as he rode towards his first delivery. He couldn’t help imagining what it would feel like to own a bike like the one Mr. Warren had just shown him. “My deliveries would double with that” he thought longingly.
Suddenly, Daniel lost balance and fell on the road. He got up and leaned the bike against the wall to see what had happened. He found a nail stuck in the back tire (轮胎) and he unluckily had a flat tire.
As he turned around and tried to think of what to do, he saw something unusual. A strange man Daniel had never seen before furtively (鬼鬼祟祟地) looked around and placed a package under his jacket. “Hey!” Daniel shouted at the man. “Hey there! What are you doing? That’s not yours!” The man heard Daniel and started to run as fast as he could.

    __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________参考答案:
    Paragraph 1:
After having a look at his bike’s flat tire, Daniel quickly started to run after the man. “Stop! Thief!” Daniel cried out as he ran. The man was fast, but Daniel was faster. Daniel was gaining on the thief with every step he took. The desperate thief had to look over frequently to check the distance between them. Suddenly he tripped over a stone and fell. Daniel immediately caught him by the arm. The thief struggled to his feet, waving his fist toward Daniel in an attempt to escape. Daniel was holding the thief tight when he heard someone shouting “Here I come!”
    Paragraph 2:
Mr. Warren arrived on his new bike, and then helped pin (压住) the thief down. Daniel told Mr. Warren what had happened and called the police. Shortly afterwards, a policeman arrived and took the thief away. When Daniel was about to leave, Mr. Warren stopped him and offered his new bike to Daniel and told him it was a gift for him. When Daniel tried to refuse such a generous gift, Mr. Warren insisted he take the bike, saying that it was actually a reward for Daniel’s bravery. Tears in his eyes, Daniel said, “Thank you so much! I’m glad to be of any help to you guys!”

At eleven years old during my summer holiday, my main concern was money. I wanted to buy the new must-have thing my classmates had. I already had a “job” as a sales representative with a kids-based sales company, and I sold wrapping paper and greeting cards with the best of them. On my bedroom floor, I arranged the bills and change from my purse to see what I had. I wished it would multiply before my eyes, but of course it didn't. I went to my mom. "Mom, I need more money,” I said, leaning against the kitchen counter while she cooked dinner.” What else can kids do for a job around here?” Mom responded with a smile, “Okay, let me ask around.”
The next day, she had an answer “Your grandmother will pay you to help her deliver lunch each day to the elderly.” Yes! I pumped my fist into the air. I couldn't wait to start my new job on Monday after school dismissed for the summer.
When my grandmother picked me up, I thanked her for the job and started asking the job. “It's simple. We pick up a large container full of hot meals in a nearby town and then we go on our delivery route,” she answered.
We arrived at the pick-up kitchen and got dozens of little shiny silver boxes with white lids that were hot. After our load was arranged in the backseat, my grandmother drove us to our first stop: a small white house. I took a meal and a small box of milk from the back and walked beside my grandmother to the front gate. She opened it and nodded to me to go in. I walked along the cracked walkway. Tall grass tickled (使发痒) my ankles.
Did someone really live here? I couldn't imagine that. The house didn't look nice, but I kept going. In front of the door leading to the enclosed front doorway, I paused, and my grandmother called out, “Mrs. Hershel, we've brought you some lunch.”

The reply in a low voice came from my left, “Come on in.” I turned around and found an old lady in the corner looking at me. She was in her nineties with grey hair. She was sitting in a rock chair in a loose dress. When I drew near to her, she smiled at me. My grandmother introduced me to her. She thanked me again. However, I stared at her and just stood there holding the food, unsure what to do. Under the guide of my grandmother, I placed the food on her kitchen table. I was unwilling to stay there and withdrew at once.
On the road home, my grandmother said, “For some of them, we're the only person they see and a kind word and a smile go a long way.” And she asked if I would try it again the next day. With the lonely woman coming to my mind, I nodded. The next morning, I saw each person a little differently. I smiled at each one and greeted them. With those smiles I saw true happiness in their eyes. That summer I did something incredible not only earning money but making a difference to someone.

Probably, most of you had the feeling before, at least once—you had been waiting for a long time, yet being afraid of getting. It was exactly my state of mind before the first day at college. I had been working hard to pass the necessary tests and have my application to the undergraduate programme in management approved. And when the time had come for me to visit the college for the first day of the study,I couldn't sleep all night because of being anxious about how to look good physically in front of the whole new world I was about to enter. However, the positive attitude and readiness to accept support from others helped a lot in a new environment.
It was Monday morning. Being too excited to sleep the night before, I came to the college half an hour earlier for the first lecture and was walking nervously through the hallway. About 15 minutes after I came, the hallway started to be full of students. Professors who walked on their business probably didn't pay attention to me. I knew which hall to go to and had already checked that it was open. However,I was hesitant to enter the hall and sit there alone. People were moving around me as if they hadn't seen me. I felt disappointed with the fact that I had nobody to talk to in the new and seemingly unfriendly place.
Suddenly,a well-dressed man who seemed to be in his late twenties approached me. He introduced himself as Mathews and asked whether I was lost and whether he could help me with anything. In that situation,I realized it was very kind of him and that he was exactly the person I wanted to ask in my thoughts a minute before, but then I was too nervous for a friendly chat. As a result, instead of welcoming the opportunity to make the first acquaintance (相识), I told the man to mind his business and leave me alone since I was an adult capable of finding my class without anybody's assistance.

    _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________参考答案:
Luckily, the man didn't seem to be angry. He just shrugged, smiled a bit and went to the room where my first lecture was about to take place. Quite a lot of people had entered the room, so I didn't care about having an unhappy experience with one of my future peers. I was embarrassed, however, when I finally learned that the man to whom I had been rude minutes before was our professor of the first lecture.

Professor Mathews turned out to be an excellent speaker and the lecture went really well. After the class was dismissed, I came to him to apologize for my bad manners earlier in the day. Professor Mathews said that he was not unhappy and on his first day as the student of our college, he was afraid and nervous, too. The incident helped me realize that I should not let emotional strain and anxiety prevent me from communicating with people openly and pleasantly.

Two fast friends were Willie and his little dog Bounce. Willie could never think of taking a walk without Bounce. Cake and play were equally shared between them. Willie taught his dog many cunning tricks, and often said that Bounce could do almost anything in the world but talk. Then on a bright summer afternoon, Willie had strolled with Bounce down to the river, which was not more than two blocks from his father’s store—Mr. Brown’s store.
Willie began to throw stones into the water, and to watch ripples as they made one circle after another. Bounce lay on the grass, watching the flies buzzing around his nose, and catching any that came too near.
There were some logs floating in the river near the bank. Willie jumped upon one of them to see if he could throw a stone across the river. He drew back, sent the stone with all strength, just as it left his hand, the log turned and he fell into the water. He was frightened, for he did not know how to swim, and there was no one to hear, though he called as loud as he could for help.
If he had been a big water dog, he could have jumped in and brought his master out.

He ran up and down the bank two or three times, barking, looking first at Willie and then around.

    _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________参考答案:
    Para 1:
He ran up and down the bank two or three times, barking, looking first at Willie and then around. Then he started, as fast as he could run up the street to the store. When he got there the door was shut, but he scratched against it and barked loudly, until some one came and opened it. He caught hold of Mr. Brown’s clothes, then ran to the door, then back again, catching at him, barking and jumping. Noticing the dog’s abnormal behavior, Mr. Brown realized something must have been wrong. He put on his hat and went with the dog. Bounce, seeing Mr. Brown take his hat, started for the river.
    Para 2:
Finally, the father came to the river. He saw Willie’s hat floating on the water, and his small arm throw up. Without thinking twice, he sprang in and caught him just as he was going down for the last time, and quickly carried him to the bank. On the bank, Willie was given first aid and came to life after a while. When he got over his fright, no one seemed to be more delighted than Bounce, his true friends.

December 5, 2012, was a very special day for Josephine and Scott Lansing, as it marked the fourth adoption for the Lansings.
When they began the journey to adopt their first daughter, Cloe, years ago, Josephine and Scott Lansing never imagined they would eventually have a house full of girls. The couple later adopted Josie in 2011 and Annabelle in 2012. For the Lansing family, adoption is about giving every child the opportunity to grow healthily in a loving home. Scott and Josephine are great advocates for each of their daughters, and they make sure each child knows how special and loved they are.
In February of 2009, Bethany entered into the care of Child Protective Services due to her mother's inability to care for her and her brothers and sisters. Her experiences made it very difficult for her to trust adults, since she learned from an early age that she could only count on herself. She lived in a shelter for several months before moving into a foster home Still, Bethany struggled to understand why she had been taken away from the only family she had known. In May of 2010, Bethany was placed at Helping Hand Home for Children's Residential Treatment Center, where her journey to returning to normal finally began. With the patience, support, and guidance of the Helping Hand Home staff, Bethany developed healthy, appropriate ways to express her emotions. She was taught to respect herself, and she learned that it was okay to trust others.
When Bethany was introduced to the Lansing family in June of 2012, the meeting did not go as smoothly as everyone hoped. Bethany's insecurities resurfaced due to the suffering she experienced at such a young age, and she refused to talk or even look at the Lansings at their first meeting.
But the Lansing family had no intention to give up.

    _______________________________________________________________________________
But the Lansing family had no intention to give up. They were patient with Bethany and explained that they wanted to get to know her better and hoped she would one day be part of their family. The other girls shared their stories of coming from the foster care system, and they told her how scared they had been about meeting a new family too and how happy they were now. Soon Bethany’s anxiety eased, and she agreed to go and see her new home. (77 words)
Later, Bethany experienced a lot of exciting things. From many hours spent at the neighborhood pool to her first trip to the beach, Bethany now lived the life every child deserves. The Lansings celebrated Bethany’s 11th birthday with a superb cruise. When Bethany returns to Helping Hand Home to visit, the first thing everyone comments on is her self-confidence. The little girl who was once afraid to make eye contact is now a secure, funny young lady who would talk your ear off.   (77 words)

On July 8,2017,eight members of a family in total, were enjoying an evening together at the beach in Panhandle,Florida. As the sun sank lower on the horizon, the two boys Noah,11,and Stephen,8—swam into the waves without the grown-ups noticing.Soon they realized that the ocean had pulled them into the sea. After trying and failing to swim back, they started waving and screaming for help. But the lifeguards had been off duty for the evening.
The boys had been struggling for several minutes when Jacky and Tabatha,a couple from Georgia, heard them. They dived into the water and soon reached the two brothers. But after a few minutes, they were all trapped in a rip current(离岸流)—a powerful one that could sweep even the strongest swimmer out to sea! By then, some teenagers had heard the cry.One of the teens rushed into the water, grabbed Jacky, and pulled him back to shore.Meanwhile,Tabatha could feel herself being pulled farther out.She was already exhausted and beginning to feel desperate as she was trying to save both boys alone.
Onshore,Jacky was terrified.A man stopped.“What’s wrong?” asked Shaun, who was heading back to his car.“My wife is drowning!” Brittany said.Shaun immediately strode(大步跨)into the water. But several minutes later,a gaping 15 feet still lay between him and Tabatha and the boys.He knew that if he continued,he’d become another victim. He turned around to seek help.
It was about that time that Roberta, the boys’ mother, returned from the bathroom and  looked around for her children. She was shocked to spot them floating much farther out than  they were allowed to go.She fought the waves to get to her screaming sons and the stranger who was trying to save them, but she quickly discovered it was nearly impossible to make headway in any direction.Looking around,Roberta sighed with relief to see some more people coming to help.

In 1945, a 12-year-old boy saw a beautiful brooch(胸针) in a shop window that set his heart racing. But the price-five dollars-was too high for Reuben Earle. Five dollars would buy almost a week's food for his family.
Reuben couldn't ask his father for the money. Everything his father made through fishing went to his mother, Dora. Slim and beautiful, she was the center of the home, the glue that held it together. The housework was never-ending, and she struggled to support their five children but she was happy as her family and their well-being were all she cared about.
Nevertheless, he opened the shop's weathered (风化的)door and went inside, Standing proud and straight in his flour-sack(面粉袋改做的) shirt and washed-out trousers, he told the shopkeeper what he wanted, adding, "But I don't have the money right now. Can you please hold it for some time?
"I'll try," the shopkeeper smiled. "People around here don't usually have that kind of money to spend on things. It should keep for a while."
Reuben respectfully touched his worn cap and walked out.
He would raise the money and not tell anybody, for he thought Mum would get surprised when she saw that brooch. On hearing the sound of hammering from a side street, Reuben suddenly had an idea that he could raise money by selling the used nail bags(装钉子的麻袋). People built their own buildings in Bay Roberts, using nails bought in bags from a local factory. Sometimes the used nail bags were thrown away at the construction site, and Reuben knew he could sell them back to the factory for five cents a piece.
That day he sold two nail bags and hid the money in a rusty soda tin.
