I was enjoying my delicious sandwich that morning when I noticed that it was already 7:17.I had three minutes to catch the school bus.

I jumped up, grabbed my bag, and rushed out of the house catching the elevator. In a panic, I texted my friend who had taken the bus from the previous station, pleading if he could ask the bus driver to wait just two minutes.

    “He says hurry!”

As soon as the elevator door opened, I raced down the apartment complex. I turned the corner and identified the small yellow bus with the emergency signal waiting for me. I gathered all my strength and raced the last 100 meters like the ones I had seen in the Olympics.

“Good morning! Having a rough start?” the driver said.

“Yeah...Thank you for waiting” I said awkwardly still gasping(喘气)for air.

His big smile and kind gesture caught me off guard as I entered nervously, expecting some sort of a scolding. His warmness was actually quite comforting. The bus arrived at school, and I thanked him again for waiting for me. He wished me a great day and told me to learn as much as possible. It was just a common remark, but I felt that his words carried so much genuineness that they touched my heart.

A moment of flashbacks reminded me that he always smiled. I just didn't take the time to notice. He always exchanged small talks with us and behind those small talks was a deeply caring heart cheering and rooting for all of us.

3:15 p.m. finally arrived. Just like any other day, our bus driver was right there waiting for us, pleasantly smiling. However, this time I noticed. “Had a great day?” He asked. “I had a wonderful day! Thank you so much!" I said it with the biggest smile and meant every word.

    C

For some of us, it needs not be a long life as long as it's been a fulfilling life of achievements, happiness and no regrets. But, how many of us actually go on to experience that entirely? It sometimes sounds more like a pipe dream-a fantasy rather than reality.

It's a common misconception that you must give up certain parts of your full life to fulfil others-from work to health to relationships. Maybe youre overwhelmed(压垮)by all the daily demands. Maybe you don't feel like you have enough time and energy. Or maybe you just haven't discovered your own strengths and potential to achieve everything you want in life, and so when in times of difficulty, you just give up trying to balance them all.

And then you'll also get comments from some, saying that this 'fulfilling life' is only possible if you're so rich that you don't have to care about working, paying the bills or providing for your family. While there is some truth to thatI‘’m happy to say that financial(财务)freedom isn’t the only answer to living a fulfilling life.

But here's the truth: We cannot afford to keep trading one important part of our lives to achieve another. No one can achieve true happiness this way. The reality is that different aspects of your life are interlinked and interdependent.  Everything influences the other; for example, a bad family life can bring down your career, and poor health can bring down everything.

What you don't realize is that you will pay great consequences later if you trade off one thing to achieve another right now. And these consequences are almost irreversible(不可逆转的).The secret to have a fulfilling life is to not just balance all areas of your life-but to do them all well, too.

28.Why do many people give up balancing their lives?

A.They have a wrong idea of full life.

    B. They are not gifted to live a full life.

C.They lack abilities to deal with difficulty.

D.They don't intend to achieve all the goals.

29.What matters most for happiness according to the author?

    A.Wealth.

    B.Career.

    C.Health.

    D.Family.

30.Which opinion may the author agree with?

A.You have to trade health for wealth.

    B. A full life requires being good in all areas.

C.Financial freedom guarantee a fulfilling life.

D.You have to lose something in tough times.

    31. What can be the best title of this text?

    A.What Is Important in Life?

C.What Is the Meaning of Life?

    B.How Can We Live Longer?

D.How Can We Live a Full Life?

    D

We all have an idea about the common types of environmental problems. However, light pollution may be a new term to many of us. But, the fact is that it does affect mankind, other living forms and the environment as a whole.

What is light pollution? It presents all forms of misused man-made light. The obvious cause of light pollution is the use of outdoor lighting products improperly. It can be office lighting, car headlights, station lights, streetlights and many more.

Light pollution is harmful to both animals and plants. Upon studies, it is found that obvious effects are observed in the behaviour of animals that are active at night. Needless to mention, bright light at night makes it difficult for these animals to hunt, wander and perform their regular activities. Light pollution is directly or indirectly responsible for causing several diseases. Its effects are related to disturbance in the physical rhythm(节奏). It contributes to risks of developing cancerous cells. So, it's nothing less than a threat to human health.

You have already seen the negative effects of light pollution on animals and human health. Apart from this, the actual cost of misused light is about millions of dollars every year. It also leads to the release of greenhouse gases and global warming. After all, coal or gas is used for producing electricity.

While outdoor lighting and using man-made lighting products are part of our modern lifestyle, some simple ways will surely help in reducing light pollution. For examplewhile installing(安装) outdoor lighting, make sure that they are pointed downwards. Also, use only the required lighting equipment for both home and offices. Believe it or not, many people living in the urban areas cannot view clear sky and stars at night. Let's contribute our part in reducing the pollution.

32.What can we learn about light pollution?

A.It has little effect on plants.

    B.It contributes to most cancers.

C.It is a negative fruit of light technology.

    D. It affects animals' behavior during the day.

33.Why does light pollution affect the climate?

A.It increases the temperature at night.

B.It creates clouds in parts of the Earth.

C.It stops the release of greenhouse gases.

D.It is related to the burning of coal and gas.

34.How can we contribute our part in reducing light pollution?

A.Forbid the use of outdoor lighting.

B.Use clean energy to produce electricity.

C.Avoid unnecessary lights at home and offices.

D.Reduce money spent on light in urban areas.

35.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?

A.Citizens should be banned to install outdoor lighting.

    B. Only simple ways can help reduce light pollution.

    C. There is no clear sky or stars over the urban areas.

D.Light pollution needs to be dealt with urgently.

40 The psychology of reading fiction is often explored, so clearly others are curious as well. I Am Still Beautiful

When Carleigh Edwards was 7 years old, her hair started to fall out. She suffered from alopecia areata(斑秃),a disease that causes the body to become allergic to its own hair. Her parents struggled to find help for their child, but Carleigh's hair continued to fall out.

Carleigh underwent a series of uncomfortable and time-consuming treatments, including having injections(注射)directly into the skin on her head. Through it allMom Courtney Edwards says she displayed wisdom beyond her years, but the hair loss caused a lot of unpleasant feelings for the child. She worried about being made fun of at school, or about someone pulling her cap off. She even started taking showers in the dark to avoid seeing her own reflection in the mirror.

“That was hard,” Courtney told Today. “As a 7-year-old, she had to have needles stuck into her head. She was brave. She just amazes me.”

Over Thanksgiving weekend, the now-8-year-old's condition went from bad to worse. In an online video, Courtney describes washing her daughter's hair and having it just fall out in handfuls. In the video, Courtney explained that she and her husband had gone into school with Carleigh after the holiday break to speak directly to the children in her school.

“She was so brave and said to her class, 'I have alopecia areata,'” Courtney said.  “'It's when my body is allergic to my hair. So please don't be mean to me. And don't make fun of me.'  Then she broke down and started weeping in my arms.”

When Courtney's video went viral online, she received support from people far and wide. A friend introduced Carleigh to another child who has the same condition, and the two girls got to know each other. The other girl encouraged Carleigh to take control of her condition by cutting off her hair completely.

    注意:

    1.续写词数应为150左右;

    2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

After some thought, Carleigh decided to go for it and asked her mother to record this moment.

After she was done, her father and brother surprised her by shaving their heads, too.
