They set off from Mono Island on September 3rd in a small motorboat to travel 200km to New Georgia Island. It was a trip they had taken several times before. Soon after they set out, they were hit by a storm. The storm blew them off course. They lost their ability to find their location at sea and they ended up off the coast of Papua New Guinea. The two men were optimistic about their unplanned adventure. Rather than be upset and anxious, they enjoyed the potentially life-threatening journey at sea. One man said. “We didn’t know where we were but did not expect to be in another country.” They survived by eating oranges they had bought for their journey and coconuts floating in the sea. A fisherman first noticed their boat. and then the local government managed to rescue them. The man said. “I look forward to going back home but I guess it was a nice break from everything.”

Nowadays, over 6,000 national parks exist in the world. Of all, these are the ones that have been around for hundreds of years and should be on everyone’s bucket list.
Guilin and Lijiang River National Park, China
It is surrounded by striking natural beauty and can be explored by land. But the river national park, as the name suggests, is best explored through leisurely boat rides and cruises that take visitors through many canals and ancient towns that come along the way of the river.
    Calanques National Park, France
While most go to France for the twinkling Eiffel Tower, few tour plans involve a stop at the Calanques National Park, which is made up of both land and sea, with over 140 protected species of animals and plants that reside inside. Because of its topography, the park is unique in that it can be explored through a mix of activities both for those who like waterbodies and those who’d rather stay on land.
    Yorkshire Dales, United Kingdom
Contrary to the popular association of national parks with the wilderness it is filled with winding valleys, hills and villages where over 24,000 people live and work. Yorkshire Dales is also home to several food shops, and the park hosts cheese festivals and farmers markets regularly, so it’s best to go hungry.
    Kakadu National Park Australia
It is a delight for those who like a bit of history mixed with the biodiversity of national parks. While it houses thousands of species of wildlife, there’s more to the national park than that.
    21. What is recommended for a trip to Guilin and Lijiang River National Park?
    A. Observing local customs. B. Exploring it through boats.
    C. Witnessing geological process. D. Going with an empty stomach.

I look forward to my half-hour train ride to work every morning. I can look out of the window as it twists and turns itself through neighborhoods with the sun casting its strong light on the floor of the train car. I sometimes get lost in thought while following the light. But the reason I love this ride is that it’s a reminder of how neighborhoods can change from block to block.
For almost a year now I have been. riding this train as I head into the office where I work as a reporter for a local magazine. I am one of 13 journalists who help report community news in areas that are often forgotten. And for me,that means covering areas like the one I grew up in.
Last week? as I was on the way to my office, I started wondering how neighborhoods have changed since the 2008 housing crisis. I searched addresses on the city’s southwest side, a neighborhood that has seen a significant number of residential homes pulled down. I scanned the street views recorded on my phone and saw how the neighborhood looked in 2007. Then I set out to visit the city block, and that’s when I met 3-year-old Harmony.
Harmony loved collecting rocks for me to hold as I walked down the street with her mother, Marquita. I already knew what the neighborhood looked like in the past, but Marquita shared more details of the people who once lived on her block, who were really friendly to each other. However, people today in the neighborhood are busy with life and seldom say hello to each other. Marquita has lived on this block her entire life, and Harmony has for most of her short life as well. But the neighborhood that Marquita grew up in will be one that is obviously different from the one Harmony will grow to know.
In the end, they smiled at my camera. And then I got back on the train and headed back to the office to tell their stories.
    24. What makes the author love his train ride to work?
    A. Being lost in thought.
    B. Admiring the outside views.
    C. Enjoying the warm sunshine.
    D. Knowing the change of blocks.
    25. How did the author find out what the city’s southwest side looked like in the past?
    A. By reading earlier reports.
    B. By interviewing local people.
    C. By watching past street views.
    D. By searching his memories.
    26. How might Marquita feel when she talked with the author?
    A. Nervous. B. Sad. C. Touched. D. Guilty.
    27. What is the main purpose of the text?
    A. To tell us the work of a news reporter.
    B. To share a pleasant train ride with us.
    C. To show us a crowded community.
    D. To introduce a new neighborhood.
D 25. C 26. B 27. A
根据第一段中“I sometimes get lost in thought while following the light. But the reason I love this ride is that it’s a reminder of how neighborhoods can change from block to block.”(我有时会在追寻光明的时候陷入沉思。
根据第三段“Last week? as I was on the way to my office, I started wondering how neighborhoods have changed since the 2008 housing crisis. I searched addresses on the city’s southwest side, a neighborhood that has seen a significant number of residential homes pulled down. I scanned the street views recorded on my phone and saw how the neighborhood looked in 2007. ”(上周吗?在去办公室的路上,我开始思考自2008年房地产危机以来,社区发生了怎样的变化。我搜索了该市西南侧的地址,那里有大量住宅被拆除。我浏览了手机上记录的街景,看看2007年这个社区的样子。)可知,作者通过电子地图的街景功能看到了2007年这座城市西南部的街景。故选C项。
    【26题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段“Harmony loved collecting rocks for me to hold as I walked down the street with her mother, Marquita. But the neighborhood that Marquita grew up in will be one that is obviously different from the one Harmony will grow to know.”(当我和她妈妈马奎塔走在街上时,哈莫尼喜欢给我捡石头。
故选A项。
    C
The open letter on the official website of the Future of Life Institute, co-signed by experts such as SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and computer scientist Stuart Russell and calling for suspending training artificial intelligence systems more powerful than GPT4, is still causing debate.
Besides calling for a suspension of six months, the open letter also stresses the importance of reaching a security agreement so as to ensure that the powerful AI systems are more accurate, secure and loyal to humankind.
Actually, as early as 2017, more than 2, 000 professionals and scholars co-signed the Asilomar AI Principles, 23 guidelines for the research and development of artificial intelligence that aimed to establish a set of values for AI to be aligned with so that it would benefit humanity. Since then, more than 100 AI principles and documents have been introduced.
Technology is becoming more deeply rooted in people’s lives, which means that human values and ethics must be considered essential parts of research and development to ensure that as technology progresses it is for the benefit of humankind.
With cutting-edge technology increasingly posing potential risks to human survival, while seeking to equip human society with science and technology, we should be careful to the irreversible risks that would result from too much scientific and technological authorization. It is time that a suspension button is pressed for giant AI systems. That’s the only way for humanity to prevent high-tech systems from becoming uncontrollable.
At the end of the open letter it reads: “Let’s enjoy a long AI summer, not rush unprepared into a fall.” That poetic sentence not only applies to the very situation right now, but also to the coming future.
    28. Why should a security agreement be reached?
    A. To ensure the development of AI
    B. To benefit humankind
    C. To introduce AI to the public
    D. To draw attention of the public
    29. Which of the following statements is correct?
    A. The more accurate and advanced AI is, the better.
    B. The dangers of AI outweigh the benefits.
    C. AI must develop quickly in a short time.
    D. All professionals and scholars haven’t realized the danger of AI.
    30. What does the underlined word “irreversible” in Paragraph 5 probably mean?
    A. resistible B. irreparable
    C. changeable D. irregular
    31. What can be a suitable title for the text?
    A. Speed up the development of AI for a bright future
    B. Concern rises that AI can generate disasters
    C. Press pause to ensure AI benefits humanity
    D. Set rules for AI development to ensure data security
B 29. D 30. B 31. C
根据第二段“Besides calling for a suspension of six months, the open letter also stresses the importance of reaching a security agreement so as to ensure that the powerful AI systems are more accurate, secure and loyal to humankind.(除了呼吁暂停六个月,公开信还强调了达成安全协议的重要性,以确保强大的人工智能系统更加准确、安全和忠于人类)”可知,达成安全协议是为了人工智能系统能够更加准确、安全和忠于人类,即为人类造福。
根据第一段“The open letter on the official website of the Future of Life Institute, co-signed by experts such as SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and computer scientist Stuart Russell and calling for suspending training artificial intelligence systems more powerful than GPT4 , is still causing debate.(太空探索技术公司首席执行官埃隆·马斯克和计算机科学家斯图尔特·拉塞尔等专家在未来生命研究所官方网站上共同签署了一封公开信,呼吁暂停训练比GPT4更强大的人工智能系统,这封公开信仍在引发争论)”可知,不是所有的专业人士和学者都意识到了人工智能的危险。
根据第五段“With cutting-edge technology increasingly posing potential risks to human survival, while seeking to equip human society with science and technology, we should be careful to the irreversible risks that would result from too much scientific and technological authorization.(随着尖端技术对人类生存的潜在风险越来越大,在寻求为人类社会配备科学技术的同时,我们应该小心过多的科学技术授权会带来irreversible风险)”可知,尖端技术的潜在风险越来越大,过多的科学技术授权可能会带来不可逆转的风险,推测划线单词表示“不可逆转的”,与irreparable同义。
根据第一段“The open letter on the official website of the Future of Life Institute, co-signed by experts such as SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and computer scientist Stuart Russell and calling for suspending training artificial intelligence systems more powerful than GPT4 , is still causing debate.(太空探索技术公司首席执行官埃隆·马斯克和计算机科学家斯图尔特·拉塞尔等专家在未来生命研究所官方网站上共同签署了一封公开信,呼吁暂停训练比GPT4更强大的人工智能系统,这封公开信仍在引发争论)”以及倒数第二段“It is time that a suspension button is pressed for giant AI systems. That’s the only way for humanity to prevent high-tech systems from becoming uncontrollable.(是时候为巨大的人工智能系统按下暂停按钮了。这是人类防止高科技系统失控的唯一途径)”可知,本文主要介绍了人工智能应该被按下暂停键,以更好地造福人类,所以“按下暂停键确保人工智能造福人类”可以作为文章标题。故选C。
    D
For the first 18 years of my life, my mom cooked Chinese food every day, all served family-style. But when it came time for me to teach myself how to cook, I didn’t ask my mom for help. Instead, like so many young people, I turned to the online recipes. By the time I got married, I could cook many dishes. What I didn’t really know how to cook at all, however, was Chinese food.
Part of the problem was that I only knew how to cook by following recipes. And up until maybe 5 or 10 years ago, the number of English-language recipes for Chinese dishes you could find in a cookbook or on the Internet still felt extremely limited —at least when it came to homey(家乡菜), everyday recipes written with a younger Chinese American audience in mind.
That was the experience, too, for sisters Sarah and Kaitlin Leung. Like so many other ABCs (American-born Chinese) and younger first- and second-generation Chinese immigrants(移民), the Leung sisters reached a point in their adult lives when they started to love to eat the food they’d grown up on, but found it really difficult to learn how to prepare it.
As it turns out, though, the Leung sisters were uniquely positioned to do something about it: Their father had spent years cooking at his family’s Chinese American takeout restaurant. Their mom had deep knowledge about traditional Shanghainese cooking. Meanwhile, the two sisters had grown up in New York, eating their parents, food, but also immersed(沉浸)in America’s own food culture.
So, in 2013, the Leungs started a food blog “The Woks of Life”. What made their blog different from other blogs was that the intergenerational transfer of knowledge that the Leungs were so eager for was baked right into the concept: The four family members took turns posting recipes, each sharing their own favorites. In that way, Sarah says, the blog reflected — and continues to reflect — the diversity of the Chinese diaspora(华侨).
    32. What partly stopped the author learning to cook Chinese dishes?
    A. He was too busy to cook at home.
    B. He had no access to such recipes.
    C. He didn’t like Chinese dishes at all.
    D. His mother left him no chance to cook.
    33. Who might be the targeted readers of the Leungs’ blog?
    A. Young American housewives.
    B. Chinese adults living abroad.
    C. The Chinese immigrant's family.
    D. The Chinese chefs working in restaurants.
    34. What sets the Leungs’ blog apart from others’?
    A. Being written by several people.

    D. Help a New Generation of Chinese Americans Learn to Cook
B 33. C 34. D 35. D
根据第二段“Part of the problem was that I only knew how to cook by following recipes. And up until maybe 5 or 10 years ago, the number of English-language recipes for Chinese dishes you could find in a cookbook or on the Internet still felt extremely limited(问题的一部分是我只知道如何按照食谱烹饪。也许直到5年或10年前,你在食谱或互联网上能找到的中国菜的英文食谱数量仍然非常有限)”可知,作者只会照着食谱做饭,但当时找不到英文版的中国菜谱,因此这是作者不会做中国菜的部分原因,故选B项。
    【33题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段“Like so many other ABCs (American-born Chinese) and younger first- and second-generation Chinese immigrants(移民), the Leung sisters reached a point in their adult lives when they started to love to eat the food they’d grown up on, but found it really difficult to learn how to prepare it(像许多其他出生在美国的中国人和年轻的第一代和第二代中国移民一样,梁姐妹在成年后开始喜欢吃自己长大后吃的食物,但发现很难学会如何准备)”可知,很多在美国出生的华人和年轻的第一代和第二代华人移民不会做从小喜欢吃的中国菜,于是“The Woks of Life”博客就诞生了,所以中国移民家庭是美食博客“The Woks of Life”的受众,故选C项。
根据文章最后一段“What made their blog different from other blogs was that the intergenerational transfer of knowledge that the Leungs were so eager for was baked right into the concept(他们的博客与其他博客的不同之处在于,Leungs一家人渴望的知识代际传递被直接融入了这个概念)”可知,the Leungs一家人写的博客融入了知识代际传递的理念:两代人轮流分享美食,故选D项。
根据第一段“But when it came time for me to teach myself how to cook, I didn’t ask my mom for help. Instead, like so many young people, I turned to the online recipes. By the time I got married, I could cook many dishes. What I didn’t really know how to cook at all, however, was Chinese food.( 但到了我自学做饭的时候,我没有向妈妈寻求帮助。相反,像许多年轻人一样,我转向了网上食谱。我结婚的时候,我会做很多菜。然而,我真正不知道如何烹饪的是中国菜)”、第四段“As it turns out, though, the Leung sisters were uniquely positioned to do something about it: Their father had spent years cooking at his family’s Chinese American takeout restaurant. Their mom had deep knowledge about traditional Shanghainese cooking(然而,事实证明,Leungs姐妹在这方面有着独特的地位:她们的父亲多年来一直在家里的美籍华人外卖餐厅做饭。他们的妈妈对上海传统烹饪有很深的了解)”以及最后一段“So, in 2013, the Leungs started a food blog “The Woks of Life”. What made their blog different from other blogs was that the intergenerational transfer of knowledge that the Leungs were so eager for was baked right into the concept: The four family members took turns posting recipes, each sharing their own favorites(因此,在2013年,Leungs一家人创办了一个美食博客“生活的烦恼”。

What’s more, it is doctors and nurses that heal the wounded and rescue the dying, especially during the pandemic, and I want to be one of them.
I will spare no effort to work for my ideal major and make my dream come true.
    Yours,
    Li Hua
