The study results suggest that this signaling prcess might nt wrk well in darker skin that cntains mre melanin (黑色素), which absrbs light.

Cnsumers increasingly use smartwatches and ther wearable devices t measure their heart rates and rhythm during exercise and fr verall health mnitring. Hwever, thse measurements may be less accurate in peple with darker skin tnes (肤色), accrding t a study.
The findings are based n a systematic review f 10 previusly published studies invlving a ttal f 469 participants. The study is the first t pl data frm many studies t specifically examine hw skin tnes may affect the accuracy f heart data in wearables.
After screening 622 scientific papers, the researchers identified 10 studies that reprted the heart rate and rhythm data fr cnsumer wearable technlgy accrding t a participant’s skin tne. Of thse studies, they fund that heart rate measurements were significantly less accurate in darker-skinned individuals cmpared with either lighter-skinned individuals r measurements frm prven devices, such as chest strap mnitrs r electrcardigrams (心电图). One study reprted that althugh there was n difference in heart rate accuracy, wearable devices recrded significantly fewer data pints fr peple with darker skin.
Mst wearables detect the heart rate and rhythm by aiming a beam f light at the wrist and then detecting hw much light is absrbed. Greater light absrptin indicates a greater vlume f bld flwing thrugh the veins (静脉) under the skin. The study results suggest that this signaling prcess might nt wrk well in darker skin that cntains mre melanin (黑色素), which absrbs light.
