When I was 16, I read a magazine article about a museum called the McKay, once the home of a watercolorist named Marian McKay. She had requested the community to turn it into a museum upon her death. On a sunny Saturday, Sally and I drove over to the museum. She asked, "Do you have the address? ""No, but I'll recognize it, there was a picture in the magazine. "

    "Oh, stop. There it is!”

The museum was free. We entered, excited. A group of people sitting in the hall stopped talking and stared at us.

"May I help you?" a man asked. "No, "I said. "We're fine.” Tour guides got on my nerves. What if they talked a long time about a painting you weren't that interested in? Sally had gone upstairs. The people in the hall seemed very nosy(爱窥探的), keeping their eyes on me with curiosity. What was their problem? I saw some nice sculptures in one room. Suddenly I sensed a man standing behind me. "Where do you think you are? " he asked. I turned sharply. "The Mckay Art Museum!" He smiled, shaking his head. "Sorry, the Mckay is on New Braunfels Street." "What’s this place?” I asked, still confused. "Well, it's our home." My heart jolted(震颤). I raced to the staircase and called out, "Sally! Come down immediately! "

"There's some really good stuff up there." She stepped down, looking confused. I pushed her toward the front door, waving at the family, saying, "Sorry, please forgive us, you have a really nice place." Outside, when I told Sally what happened, she covered her mouth, laughing. She couldn't believe how long they let us look around without saying anything.

The real McKay was splendid, but we felt nervous the whole time we were there. Van Gogh, Picasso. This time, we stayed together, in case anything else unusual happened.

Thirty years later, a woman approached me in a public place. "Excuse me, did you ever enter a residence, long ago, thinking it was the McKay Museum?"

"Yes. But how do you know? We never told anyone."

"That was my home. I was a teenager sitting in the hall. Before you came over, I never realized what a beautiful place I lived in. I never felt lucky before. You thought it was a museum. My feelings about my home changed after that. I've always wanted to thank you."

    24. How did the author feel about being stared at by the people in the hall?

    A. Concerned.     B. Frightened.      C. Puzzled.       D. Delighted.

    25. Why did the author refuse the help from the man in the house?

    A. She disliked people who were nosy.

    B. She felt nervous when talking to strangers.

    C. She knew more about art than the man.

    D. She mistook him for a tour guide.

    26. Why did the author describe the real McKay museum in just a few words?

    A. The real museum lacked enough artwork to interest her.

    B. She was too upset to spend much time at the real museum.

    C. The McKay was disappointing compared with the house.

    D. The event happening in the house was more significant.

    27. What could we learn from the last paragraph?

    A. People should have good taste to enjoy life.

    B. People should spend more time with their family.

    C. People tend to be blind to the beauty around them.

    D. People tend to educate teenagers at a museum.

                                           C

Five days a week, Victor Ibarra and his friend Sandy Norse ride bicycles through North Brooklyn, collecting food waste from restaurants, coffee shops, and other small businesses and packing it into plastic tubs on a trailer(拖车)pulled by his bike. And every Sunday afternoon, neighborhood residents chopped their food waste firstly, waiting for Victor Ibarra and Sandy Norse’s arrival to collect the staff. These household waste contains more whole apples, whole tomatoes, and whole bunches of cabbages than commercial waste does, while cat litter, bones, and disposable cups, bowls and plates are not accepted.

In 2016, they even founded BK ROT, a nonprofit collecting andcomposting operation to continue their careers. At BK ROT, food waste is mixed with wood chips and sawdust(锯末), then moved, over a period of weeks, through a series of wooden bins the size of washing machines. By the time it reaches the final bin, it's black and bug-covered and unrecognizable as former food. The resulting mass, the compost, is sold in local stores or directly to individuals. "Somebody came from Staten Island yesterday and took a lot,Norse said, “but most of it goes to nearby urban farms and community gardens.”

Some farmers and many citizens follow their examples, beginning to turn to running their farms and gardens without using any chemicals. To their delight, they feel that this makes the soil in their fields richer in minerals and so more fertile. BK Rot is becoming popular with a goal --- to grow good food and avoid damaging the environment or people’s health.

    28. How is the compost made from?

    1. First combined with sawdust, moved and then rots.
    2. First moved, processed and then sold.
    3. First collected, packed and then sent to farms.
    4. First chopped, moved and then delivered to individuals.

    29. What can we learn about the compost?

    1. Composting operation can only be conducted by professionals.
    2. Not all the household food waste can be processed into the compost.
    3. The compost maybe only come from the household waste.
    4. The resulting mess will be packed into a wooden bin till it rots.

    30. Which of the following is the best title for the text?

    1. Collecting Food Waste Attracts More People
    2. Victor Ibarra and Sandy Norse Go Green
    3. Food Waste Can Be Turned into Treasure
    4. Farmers Will Be Blessed with the Compost

    第二节(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)
    根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
The desire to be noticed by peers(同龄人)is a natural tendency. Your style—the way you dress up, the way you carry yourself, the trends you follow—plays a key role in helping you stand out from the others.   31   The following tips can help you.

    1. Be yourself.

Why be a second-rate version of anybody else when you can be the first-rate version of yourself. Nothing will help you stand out of the crowd more than your own features because there can be only one you. Everyone has their own belief, their own way of thinking, their own experiences that shape their styles. However, self-doubt and fear of disapproval drive many to abandon their own ways and follow what everyone else is doing.   32

    2. Keep an open mind.

Open-mindedness helps you see things from a different perspective, understand others, find opportunities, and learn from others.   33   There are several styles that you should explore and determine which suits your own personality. Nobody knows what fashion you are enthusiastic about. But you should be clearly aware of your own true feelings about it.

    3. Keep up with the recent trends

Fashion is always changing.   34   As society changes, so does fashion. Changing trends reflect the changes in people's taste. Similarly, your senses of fashion changes as you gain more experiences in life. Keeping track of the latest fashion will help you redefine your style.

    4. Wear your confidence

Your attitude towards dressing can make a significant difference on how you look. You can wear a very beautiful dress, but if you can't carry it with confidence, it will not look good on you.   35  . Don't wear an uncomfortable dress just because everyone or your friend is wearing it. Remember, it's okay to have your own style as long as you are confident with it.

    A. Also, it tells a lot about your personality.

    B. What worked yesterday may not work today.

    C. Copying others will make you just another face in a crowd.

    D. Having an open mind can be very helpful in defining your style.

    E. On the other hand, even an average dress looks great on people who wear it confidently

    F. It is not absolutely necessary to follow every new trend, and you can enjoy the ones you like.

    G. Simply following the fashion trends or wearing expensive clothes will not help you get a distinct style.

Nowadays, an increasing number of young Chinese spend money because they are “lazy”. According to a report issued in December by China’s e-commerce platform Taobao on China’s “lazy economy”, Chinese people spent 16 billion yuan on products and services online in 2018. The post-1995 generation was the “laziest” as its consumption increased by 82 percent, compared with that in 2017.

The so-called lazy economy refers to a new type of consumption of products and services which are designed to save time and labor. According to the report, many people of the post-1995 generation buy high-tech electronic devices such as floor mopping robots and automatic window cleaners, which save the trouble of doing household chores. Meanwhile, take-out food delivery services are also popular among people bom after 1995.

Young people are willing to spend money on such products because they want to enjoy hard-earned leisure time after a busy and stressful day at work or school, reported Global Times. Because they need to focus on their studies or jobs, these so-called lazy people tend to use their leisure time more efficiently. For example, Wei Duo, a 21-year-old college student, is a frequent user of take-out food delivery services. t4I once had a birthday cake delivered to my friend who lives far from my home. It cost me 50 yuan but it saved me almost half a day that would have been needed to deliver it myself. My friend was also happy because she got to cat the cake instantly’’ Wei told the Global Times.

While the “lazy economy” might be convenient for young people, it might also create problems. The ‘lazy economy’ on campus is expressed in things like people buying food or other things without leaving the dormitory. As a result, they stay in their dormitories all day long, playing on computers and smartphones. According to Jinan Daily, this situation could lead to young people becoming less sociable and even developing problems of communicating with others. Young people should be alert 努觉的to it.

    Dear James,

I’m eagerly writing to inform you of my success in the English speech contest. It’s indeed a pleasant surprise for me to rank first among so many excellent contestants. But without your patient guidance, I couldn’t have made so great an achievement. You helped me polish the draft and improve my pronunciation. You trained me in simulated question and answer sessions, which turned out really helpful in the real competition. No words are strong enough to express my heartfelt gratitude to you.

Thank you very much and wish you all the best.
