Activity1

To create a festive atmosphere , have the students listen to the song ‘ Happy New Year’ on student’s Book page 45. Then show them the wall picture for ‘ listen and say’ pm Students’ Book page 42.

Activity 2

Put the pictures of a gift, a card, a firecracker and firework on the blackboard. Have the students discuss the things they would like to receive on New Year’s Day.

e.g. T: New Year’s Day is coming. Look at these things. What do you want?

T: Oh, it’s a firecracker. On New Year’s Day, many people like to set off firecrackers. A firecracker  for you.

Listen to the song.

Look at the wall picture.

S: This one. (points to a picture)

S: Thank you.

While-task procedure

Activity1

Have the students listen to and repeat after the dialogue on Student’s Book page 42.

Activity 2

Have the students repeat the dialogue on Student’s Book page 42 after you, imitating different people’s voices.

Activity 3

Have the students complete the dialogue with you. You may use the wall picture as an aid.

e.g. T: Happy New Year!

   T: A gift for you, Kitty.

   T: You are welcome.

Then have the students act out the dialogue in groups.

Activity 4

Have the students sing and act out the song ‘ Happy New Year’ on Students’ Book page 45.

Activity1

Show a New Year card to the students and slowly demonstrate to them how to make one.

e.g. Look! This is a New Year card. Do you want to know how to make it? Please watch me carefully. First draw some pictures on the card. Second, write Happy New Year and your friend’s name on it. Third, fold the card. Finally, give it to your friend.

Activity 2

Have the students discuss what they would like to buy for New Year’s Day.

e.g. T: I  like the new shoes. What do you want?

Have the students look at the wall picture and listen to the dialogue of ‘listen and act’ on Student’s Book page 44.

While-task procedure

Activity1

Show the students the pictures on Student’s Book page 43 and slowly introduce each step of making a New Year card. Have the students mimic your actions and repeat the words.

Activity 2

Divide the class into groups of four and have them repeat the dialogue on Student’s Book page 44 after you, imitating the voices of different roles.

Activity 3

Have the students work in groups to make a New Year card. Then have them take turns explaining how to make one.

Activity 4

Have the students work in groups of four and make a short dialogue. They should substitute sweets, dress and firework with some other words they have learnt.
