I. Analysis of the lesson:
The topic of Unit5 in Book 2 is School. Lesson 1 mainly talks about the three places of our school.For the sentence pattern“Is this the...? Yes, it is. /No, it isn’t.”, they have learned before. The teacher is to increase students’ further cultural awareness and interest in learning English.
II. Teaching goals
- Knowledge goal
1)All the students should be able to get the main idea of the dialogue.
2)All the students should be able to understand and say the following words:
school, office, lab ,playground
3)80% of the students should be able to imitate the dialogue and say the key
sentences: Is this the...? Yes, it is. No, it isn’t. That’s the....
2. Ability goal:Students can talk about the school, using the words, phrases
and sentences they learn in this class.
- Emotion goal:Students’ cultural awareness and respect for cultural differences will be further developed in this class.
III. Key points and difficult points:
Get the students to talk about the school freely.
IV.Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Warming up
1.Free talk
2.Enjoy the song“We like school”and learn the new word : school
3.Show the picture of our school and get them say out.
【Purpose】Make students relax and arouse their interests in talking about the
school. Strengthen their interest in studying English.
Step 2 Production
1.Introduce the background information.
Demonstration:
Show the picture of Li Ming and Jenny’s school and introduce Lucy to them. Who’s Lucy? Yes, she’s Jenny’s friend. And she’s from Canada. She comes to visit Li Ming and Jenny’s school. Jenny is introducing Lucy to Li Ming.Jenny says,
“Li Ming, this is my friend, Lucy.”What does Li Ming say? Welcome to our school!
2.Show the question and multiple choices:
watch and answer.How many places do you see?________
watch and choose.What places do they see?They see________ .
Demonstration:Let them watch the cartoon and choose. Lead the students to get the general idea of the dialogue.
- Get them watch again and find out Lucy’s questions.
T: Li Ming and Jenny’s school is quite different from Lucy’s school. Lucy asks two questions. What are they? Let’s watch again and find out: What does Lucy ask?
Demonstration:
After watching the cartoon again, let students find out the two questions and write the two sentences on the blackboard. After checking the answer, lead students to get the answers: Yes, it is. No, it isn’t. It’s the lab. Then show the picture of the playground and get them to say out the sentence: That’s the playground.
【Purpose】 Lead students to know more details about the dialogue. At the same
time,lead students to learn the new words and key sentences. Write the key words and sentences on the board.
3.Retell the dialogue.
Demonstration: The teacher lead them to look back the dialogue and make the
language situation complete. Lay the foundation for their language output.
Step 3 Practice
1.Listen and imitate.
2.Ask students to read the dialogue by themselves.
3.Get them to act out the dialogue.
Demonstration: First get them practice in roles and then put on the headdresses and act out at the front.
【Purpose】Practice the dialogue in different ways and evaluate the learning
effect.This activity can improve the students’ ability to perform under various
situations and enhance their sense of art.
5.Let’s talk.
Demonstration: Show the picture of the school . Ask students to work in pairs:
One asks, one answers.
【Purpose】Consolidate the key sentences.
6.Guessing game.
Demonstration:Let them guess the letters and rooms by asking : Is this the
...?The last picture is Lucy’s classroom and lead them to enjoy pictures of Lucy’s school.
【Purpose】Make the students relax and get them know the same sounds that
The letters have. They can also practice the key sentences and we can naturally move to the next step.
- Get them enjoy the pictures of Lucy’s school.
Demonstration: Let them enjoy the pictures of the schools in Canada .The students can know the culture of Canada.
Step 4 Production
1.Little guide competition.
Demonstration: Enjoy the video of our school and then get them to practice
in groups and then show.
Tips:
- Practice in four. One is the guide and the others are the visitors.
2. Show at the front.Then ask one pupil to introduce and the others are all visitors.
【Purpose】
Lead students to talk the school freely. Arouse their love to the school and
improve their cooperative ability.

Step 5 Summary
