One of my most beloved possessions is my black, spiral-bound journal. It is a thin, wide-ruled, simple journal with no lock or key that I found at the dollar store. The journal has no monetary value but instead holds its value of capturing my daily moments of gratitude.
The concept of a gratitude journal originated when my little brother began his gratitude journal. Although he is only twelve, he has truly grasped the concept of gratitude. I remember one of his journal entries saying, “I am thankful for my dog because I love walking her in the park.” A simple walk in the park makes my brother, a video game lover, grateful and joyful.
Seeing how my brother could practice gratitude daily, I was inspired to start my own gratitude journal. Initially, writing my gratitude journal was such a struggle. On the most typical, dry days, when I sat at my desk for hours studying for the SAT, what was there to be grateful for? At one point, I found my gratitude journal to be a pointless concept and I lost belief in my gratitude journal. In the time when I chose not to write journal, I realized how plain my life was. I missed savoring every moment and taking delight in the little aspects of my life that made me smile.
I decided to continue writing my gratitude journal once again. Even though I was not learning in a classroom over the summer, I still learned in a different manner. The journal has acted as a reflective, personal space for me to recall the past. The simplest moments of my life that were once overlooked are now the highlights of my day.
    4. Why did the author mention his brother’s journal?
    A. To praise his brother’s vivid works. B. To express his gratitude to his brother.
    C. To amuse the readers with a funny story. D. To explain his decision on writing a journal.
    5. What trouble did the author have in writing journals at the beginning?
    A. He didn’t know what to write. B. He was struggling with words.
    C. He was too busy to write journals. D. He couldn’t find the meaning of life.
    6. Which of the following can replace the underlined word “savoring” in Paragraph 3?
    A. Expecting. B. Fighting.
    C. Enjoying. D. Ruining.
    7. What does the author mainly intend to tell us?
    A. Learn from journals, and learn from life.
    B. Be grateful for every moment of life.
    C. Wherever you are, do remember to keep a journal.
    D. The least important can be the highlights sometimes.

U.N. humanitarian chief Mark Lowcock today released $15 million from the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) to help fund global efforts to contain the COVID-19 virus.
The announcement came as the World Health Organization (WHO) upgraded the global risk of the coronavirus outbreak to “very high” — its top level of risk assessment. WHO has said there is still a chance of containing the virus if its chain of transmission is broken.
The U.N. funding has been released to WHO and the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF). It will fund essential activities including being aware of the spread of the virus, investigating cases, and putting national laboratories into use.
WHO has called for $675 million to fund the fight against coronavirus. There is a window of opportunity to contain the spread of the virus if countries take strong measures to detect cases early, isolate and care for patients, and trace contacts.
Emergency Relief Coordinator and Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Mark Lowcock said, “We do not yet see evidence that the virus is spreading freely. As long as that’s the case, we still have a chance of containing it, by strengthening surveillance, conducting thorough outbreak investigations to identify contacts and applying appropriate measures to prevent further spread.”
“This announcement from the U.N.’s Central Emergency Response Fund will help countries with fragile health systems improve their detection and response operations. It has the potential to save the lives of millions of vulnerable people.” Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General, said, “The potential spread of the virus to countries with weaker health systems is one of our biggest concerns. These funds will help support these countries get ready for detecting and isolating cases, protecting their health workers, and treating patients with dignity and appropriate care. This will help us save lives and push back the virus.”
“At this critical moment, every effort must be made to push back the outbreak,” said UNICEF Executive Director Henrietta H. Fore. “These funds will support our global efforts to promote weaker health systems and inform children, pregnant women and families about how to protect themselves.”
    8. What can we learn from the passage?
    A. WHO referred to the COVID-19 as the medium level of risk assessment.
    B. The virus is still hard to contain even if timely measures are taken.
    C. The fund will help people with weak health.
    D. The fund released by the U.N. is much less than WHO originally demanded.
    9. According to the passage, the fund can be used in the following aspects except .
    A. the examination of the people concerned B. the monitoring of the spread of the virus
    C. the operation of the national laboratories D. the establishment of the mobile hospital
    10. What is Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus’ attitude toward the fight against the virus?

A cute panda “from the future” and a traditional red lantern signifying(象征) China’s past were uncovered as the respective mascots(吉祥物) for the 2022 Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
Just over a year after submissions(建议) were first invited for the project, panda Bing Dwen Dwen and red lantern Shuey Rhon Rhon were revealed as the winners at Beijing’s Shougang Ice Hockey Arena.
Bing Dwen Dwen is described as a panda wearing an icy shell that is stylized as a sports helmet. The outfit is similar to a spacesuit, so the panda can be imagined as a winter sports athlete from the future. Many details of the design reference signature elements of the 2022 Beijing Olympic Winter Games. A series of colored floating lines around its head resemble tracks on an ice rink, similar to the Games venue the National Speed Skating Oval, also known as the “Ice Ribbon”.
Bing means “ice” in Chinese, which is a symbol of purity and toughness, in line with the spirit of the Olympics. Dwen suggests health and energy, with the repetition of the word giving it a more informal, friendly feeling. Altogether, Bing Dwen Dwen is a representation of physical strength, mental toughness and the spirit of the Olympics.
Paralympic mascot Shuey Rhon Rhon is equally complex in its meaning. It resembles a Chinese red lantern commonly seen on the streets during Chinese New Year, which falls three days before the Olympic Games opening ceremony in 2022. Red lanterns symbolize happiness, harvest and wealth, while the crown-like ruyi is a symbol of good luck and good wishes in Chinese culture. Shuey Rhon Rhon’s head is adorned(装饰) with paper cuttings of pigeons. Their arrangement forms the shape of the Temple of Heaven, one of Beijing’s most famous landmarks. The blushes on the mascot’s cheeks add a festive feel, with the color red associated with good luck.
Shuey means “snow” in Chinese, while Rhon Rhon are two different Chinese characters with the same pronunciation. The name symbolizes harmony and exchanges of different cultures, representing the wish to build a community of shared future for mankind.
    12. What is this text mainly about?
    A. The designers of the mascots for the 2022 Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
    B. The process of designing the mascots for the 2022 Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
    C. The schedule of designing the mascots for the 2022 Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
    D. The mascots’ appearance and symbolic significance for the 2022 Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
    13. What does the underlined word “outfit” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
    A. A piece of cloth. B. A set of clothes.
    C. A series of decorations. D. A bunch of buttons.
    14. What does the name of the mascot Shuey Rhon Rhon represent?
    A. Purity and toughness. B. Strength and beauty.
    C. Health and energy. D. Harmony and exchanges.
    15. Where is this text most likely from?
    A. A poster. B. A novel. C. A newspaper. D. A travel brochure.

Why Walking Makes You a Better Worker?
We’re busy at work, distracted(分心) by technology and often live in urban environments far from wild spaces.
16 The average American, for example, spend about 90% of their life indoors. But what happens if we make time for an hour outside each day?
17 You’ll have to stand up and move, which is beneficial if most of your day involves sitting in front of a screen. Research shows short breaks can improve work enthusiasm, and a quick break in natural light will deliver a shot of vitamin D.
There’s also a lot of mental benefits of being in nature — on the state of being happy and on your brain’s ability to make sense of life. “When people are all out in nature, even in urban nature, people tend to have more positive emotions and energy than when they are indoors. 18 ” says Lisa Nisbet, associate professor at Canada’s Trent University.
The idea that nature is good for us has been gaining ground since the1980s. 19 Afterward shinrin-yoku, the Japanese concept followed that absorbing the air in forests can benefit your health. Researchers of shinrin-yoku have since found plenty of physical and mental benefits, while global studies suggest time in nature can, for example, restore our ability to focus, increase creativity, and even help us live longer.
Of course, many of us live in cities with no ready access to forests or wilderness. 20 Various studies have shown that green environments in cities have beneficial effects.
    A. We also don’t get out much.
    B. But it doesn’t have to be a forest.
    C. People can get to a forest for a hike.
    D. In other words, people are happier in nature.
    E. There are some obvious benefits of going outside.
    F. Green and blue spaces are better than busy city streets.
    G. First came the theory that humans have a basic desire to connect with nature.

    38. B 根据she learned to find... in common things and to feel gratitude for the ordinary可知,少女懂得在平常的事物中发现奇迹,并对平凡的事物怀有感激。
    39. D 根据设空后的if not filled with the common and... things可知,生活如果不充满平凡与普通的事物,便毫无意义。
    40. C 根据上文的to feel gratitude for the ordinary可知,生活如果不充满平凡与普通的事物,便毫无意义。
Yueyang Tower is 41. ancient Chinese tower on the shore of Lake Dongting. It is one of the Three Great Towers of Jiangnan. Yueyang Tower became famous for Memorial to Yueyang Tower(《
(write) by Fan Zhongyan, who was an excellent minister of the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127) in China.
    43. (impress). Since ancient times, it 45. (enjoy) the good reputation that Dongting Lake is the 46. (good) among lakes, and Yueyang Tower is incomparable among towers. Yueyang Tower’s roof covered with yellow glazed tiles(黄色琉璃瓦) looks like a general’s helmet in ancient China. It is the only ancient 47. (build) with a helmet roof structure in China.
Before the Tang Dynasty (618-907), Yueyang Tower was mainly used 48. the military purpose. After the Tang Dynasty, it 49. (gradual) became a famous scenic spot in 50. men of letters chanted poetry and wrote fu.
    45. has enjoyed/has been enjoying 故填 has enjoyed/has been enjoying。
be used for是固定短语,意为“被用于”,故填for。
    假定英语课上老师要求同桌之间交换修改作文,请你修改你同桌写的以下作文。文中共有10处语言错误,每句中最多有两处。每处错误仅涉及一个单词的增加、删除或修改。
    增加:在缺词处加一个漏字符号(∧),并在其下面写出该加的词。
    删除:把多余的词用斜线(\)划掉。
    修改:在错的词下划一横线,并在该词下面写出修改后的词。
    注意:1. 每处错误及其修改均仅限一词;
    2. 只允许修改10处,多者(从第11处起)不计分。
I always have a dream to be a fluency speaker. Therefore, I am too shy to say a word in public. What is just beyond my wildest imagination is fortune should bless me with a chance to realize my dream. One day, my English teacher asked me to go to her office and told us that I was given an opportunity to participate in an English speaking competition. Hear this, I could hardly hide my excitement. When making preparation for the competition, I write my speech heart and soul. After I finished the composition, I discussed it with my teacher and got many advice on how to improve it. Under the help of my English teacher, I made a great progress.
    第二处:Therefore → However。 故将Therefore改为However。
分析句子结构可知,此句前半部分是一个主语从句,后半部分fortune should bless me with a chance to realize my dream 是接在is后的一个表语从句,因句意完整,连接词不在从句中作任何成分,需要用that引导。
第四处:us → me。由前面的 asked me to go to her office 可知,此处指“告诉我”。故将us改为me。
make preparations for...
    第八处:many → much。 故将many改为much。
    第九处:Under → With。with the help of...意为“在……的帮助下”,为固定搭配。故将Under改为With。
    第十处:删除a。progress为不可数名词,其前不用不定冠词a修饰;make (great) progress意为“取得(巨大的)进步”,为固定搭配。故删除a。
    第二节 书面表达(满分25分)
    假定你是李华。你校计划举办介绍中国传统文化的主题班会,并在英文网站展示。请你写一封邮件给外国朋友Chris,向他了解哪些中国传统文化更吸引外国友人。邮件内容包括:
    1. 阐明写信事由;
    2. 征求建议;
    3. 表示感谢。
    注意:1. 词数100左右;
    2. 可以适当增加细节,以使行文连贯。
    【佳作展示】
    Dear Chris,
Word came that our school is going to hold a class meeting whose topic is related to Chinese traditional customs. Because this activity will be presented on the English website, I sincerely want you to offer me some advice.
As far as we know, there is a huge cultural difference between China and the western countries. In order to get more clicks, you’d better tell me which Chinese culture you westerners prefer. What’s more, if I want to decorate my website with some Chinese elements, what should I do? Knowing you are interested in China, I do believe you can help me solve these puzzles.
If possible, you can reply to me as soon as possible. I will take your advice into consideration. I really appreciate your help.
    Yours,
    Li Hua
