       It seems that you don’t think about your nose getting tired.You can smell grass after your neighbor cuts the lawn.You can smell delicious pizza baking as you walk by the pizza store.You can definitely smell the sour smell of your brother’s feet when he takes off his sneakers on a sweaty summer day. In fact, according to research published in Nature, your nose can detect about one trillion smells!

        But your own underarms could give off unpleasant smells and you might not be able to tell: Humans tend to suffer from what scientists call olfactory fatigue(嗅觉疲劳); our sense of smell just gets plain tired out by familiar odors and stops detecting them. Believe it or not, that can actually be a good thing.

        Pamela Dalton, a psychologist at the Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia, explained to the Washington Post that we filter out the same-old smells to make room for detecting new, strange smells—such as ones that might alert us to danger, like something burning, or something good to eat like that pizza. When these smells float past us, smell receptors in our noses detect their particular chemical components and send electrical signals to the frontal cortex(皮层)of our brains. And then we decide if we need to run away from fire, or get closer towards pizza.

        If your sense of smell was weakened by your body odor —or other standard smells—we might not be able to detect the more important odors.

        There are ways to avoid showing up to work giving smelly odors like a skunk(臭鼬).One way is to take your shirt off and sniff that instead of your skin, recommends Lifehacker. Other ways to check your own scent is to rub your skin, then smell your fingers; check your breath by licking your arm, waiting a second, then sniffing the spot. Or even quicker and easier—ask someone to give you a sniff!

        Roberto Clemente is the greatest baseball player of all time. He had an unbelievable batting average (击球率)in all seasons he played. Having won four batting titles, the Gold Glove Award twelve times, and a Most Valuable Player Award, he is certainly the best that ever played.

    Besides being the best baseball player, Roberto Clemente was also a great man and a hero. In 1972, there was an earthquake in Nicaragua. On December 31 of that year, Clemente flew to Nicaragua to take supplies to the people. Almost immediately after takeoff, the plane crashed into the Caribbean Sea.

        The best honors for Clemente came after he died. He was the first Latino voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. In 1999, the city of Pittsburgh, where he played baseball, renamed a bridge after him—a bridge that leads to the city's beautiful new stadium.

        No one summed up the life of Roberto Clemente. The baseball commissioner (总干事), at Clemente’s Hall of Fame award ceremony, said, "He was so great a man, as a leader and humanitarian, so great an inspiration to the young and to all in baseball, especially to the proud people of his homeland, Puerto Rico.” The commissioner further honored Clemente by creating a sportsmanship award in his name.

       There is no denying that everyone has felt worried or upset before a contest or sports game. A study in 2000 found that "high levels of anxiety during competitions are harmful, worsening the performance and even leading to dropping out". An example of this is John Daly, an American golf player who was once one of the best of his time. The great amount of pressure placed on him to win made him extremely anxious. His anxiety reached such a high level that he was unable to complete a tournament and walked off the course in the middle of the round. Over the course of his career, he quit from 49 professional matches due to the anxiety he experienced.

        In fact, anxiety can have a number of negative effects and changes to the body, mind and behavior. Anxiety causes your body to tense up and increases blood pressure. When this happens, it becomes more difficult for your body to move fluently and efficiently, meaning actions and movements become unnatural. The terror you experience as a result of anxiety is so overwhelming that it may even lead to body paralysis(瘫痪). An example of this is stage fright, which may be experienced right before a public competition. When feeling overwhelming fear, the athlete may be unable to move, talk or act at all.

        Anxiety has a negative effect on not only athletes, but also students and young people, particularly when it comes to tests and exams. This "test anxiety" occurs in 33% of students and can affect their performance in exams and overall achievements. As time goes on, the age at which children suffer from anxiety is becoming younger.

        Anxiety leads to the poor academic performance and low scores. This is because the anxiety becomes so overwhelming that you lose the ability to think clearly. It has been proven that students with anxiety score lower on tests than students who do not suffer from anxiety.

        Anxiety can also affect students' willingness to engage in class or participate in class discussions. Again, this can have a negative impact on their performance because they are unable to communicate with the teacher by asking questions. This then leads to confusion and further worry about a task, resulting in additional anxiety. This same worry also applies to peer learning(同伴学习) because this involves sharing ideas with other students. A student with high anxiety is unable to share these ideas, meaning they quit from activities and their learning is limited.

        Anxiety reaches such a point that some of the students either refuse to go to school until they are able or drop out completely. In fact, 49% of anxious adults report having left education early and 24% indicate anxiety as the primary reason. After all, how can a person possibly learn something or perform well when their mind and body are in a constant state of terror and worry?

        Will your job be done by a robot in the future? Bank of England economists predict that almost half of all UK jobs are under threat of automation.         At first glance, teaching might seem to be unaffected to replacement by robots. Teachers use a range of soft skills that machines find hard to replicate.         Nonetheless, some believe the future of education will be technological. In an interview with Business Insider magazine, futurist Thomas Frey predicts that “by 2030 the largest company on the Internet is going to be an education-based company that we haven’t heard of yet.”

        He thinks that “bots”—online robot teachers—will make education so efficient that students will be able to compress an entire undergraduate degree into six months of learning. A bot learns what your “interests” and “reference points” are, and it “figures out” how to teach you in a faster and faster way over time, according to Frey.

        Whether or not such incredible speeds will be reached, over the last decade there has been a huge increase in online learning platforms. Companies such as Udemy and Khan Academy produce courses that allow millions to learn at home for free at their own pace. But there are limitations. Without the face-to-face stimulation of a classroom environment, the overwhelming majority of students fail to complete online courses. How to sustain motivation to learn is one more skill that online teachers will need to master.

        Indeed, Frey admits there is some way to go: “Nobody has quite cracked the code for the future of education.” What do teachers themselves think about this? Professor Donald Clark from Derby University in the UK thinks that we should welcome change, even though people will lose their jobs.

        “Artificial intelligence will destroy jobs—so why not use it for a social good such as learning?” he asked.
