Sometimes when she felt bored, she would pick up one of the numerous biographies(传记)about herself and begin to note in. "I never did that" or "simply not true" she would write roughly in the margins at the sides of pages. Since journalists, biographers and more recently even "bloggers" had been writing about her since the day she was born, there was plenty of material to edit. Not that her notes or corrections were ever shared with the authors. Lately, however, she even seemed to have lost her appetite for correctness. Did it matter anymore if things were not right?

She knew that sitting alone chewing away on downbeat thoughts would not get her anywhere and would leave those around her confused and upset, should they ever catch her out. After all she was the decisive one, always on top of her game. A printed timetable for the following day lay on the table. A full day of openings and presentations, of smiling and nodding and flowers.

Shaking herself out of her gray mood, she stepped over towards the computer where a sudden burst of energy gave her an idea. The screen flashed up in front of her but instead of clicking on the familiar icons which would lead her to the emails Randolph considered she needed to read, she simply went to visit Mr. Google and began her search for train timetable.

A dish heaped with multi-coloured jellies and plenty of ice cream, served by a white-gloved train waiter with a perfect moustache. So many years had passed but she still remembered the jelly dissolving on her tongue in small but delicious mouthfuls. Each spoonful had to be lifted delicately to her mouth under the watched eye of her grandmother, who was a stickler for good manners. It was unlikely that they served jelly on the trains these days, what with all the concern about childhood fatness, but even a Spartan menu could not kill the romance of a train journey. As the timetable for Line-burst line flashed in front of her, she remembered that the Mayor of Alwoy would be expecting her to make a short, predictable speech at the opening of the now bridge.

    4. Which of the following can be inferred from the passage?

    A. The main character is probably a journalist writing blogs about royal members.

    B. The main character is always busy editing plenty of material about herself.

    C. The authors probably had chances to get the notes or correctness from the main character.

    D. Randolph is probably an assistant or a secretary to the main character.

    5. Why does the main character recall the time she ate jellies and ice cream?

    A. She wishes that she were still a child so that she could eat jellies and ice cream.

    B. She is reminded of these foods because the thought of a train journey reminds her of them.

    C. She wishes she still knew where the handsome train waiter was

    D. Today's children aren't allowed to eat the same things that she ate as a child.

    6. A "Sparten menu" (paragraph 4) would most likely ________________________.

    A. have mainly low fat, healthy foods B. be suitable for a romantic dinner

    C. include a range of sweets, but no jelly D. include foods which are easy to transport

    7. What is most likely to happen next in this passage?

    A. The main character will practise her speech for greeting the Mayor of Alwoy.

    B. The main character will decide to take a rail journey.

    C. Randolph will send some emails to the main character.

    D. The main character will update her blog on the internet.

    C

Learning is so complex that there are many different psychological theories to explain how people learn. A psychologist named Albert Bandura suggested a social learning theory which shows that observation, imitation (模仿), and modeling play a primary role in this process.

In Albert Bandura’s opinion, people can learn through observation. Observational learning doesn’t even necessarily require watching another person join in an activity. We can also learn by reading, hearing, or watching the actions of characters in books and films. However, just observing someone else’s actions isn’t always enough to lead to learning. Your own mental state also plays an important role in determining whether a behavior is learned or not. In addition, though in many cases, learning can be seen immediately when the new behavior is displayed, yet sometimes we can learn things even though that learning might not be immediately obvious, which means people can learn new information without showing new behaviors.

Not all observed behaviors are effectively learned. Certain requirements need to be related to the observational learning process. For example, you need to be paying attention. Also your retention is an important part of observational learning as you need to pull up information later and act on it during the process. Once you’ve paid attention to the model and kept the information, it’s time to actually perform the behavior you observed. Further practice of the learned behavior leads to improvement. Finally, you have to be motivated to imitate the behavior that has been modeled.

Social learning theory have many real-world applications. For example, researchers employ it to look into and understand ways that positive role models can be used to encourage desirable behaviors. Besides, it’s also applied in the field of education, and today, both teachers and parents recognize how important it is to model appropriate behaviors.

    8. What can we infer about observational learning from Paragraph 2?

    A. Its effects on a person tend to be very obvious.

    B. Its effectiveness is determined by the mental state.

    C. Its most useful means should be careful watching.

    D. It doesn’t necessarily lead to a change in behavior.

    9. What does the underlined word “retention” in Paragraph 3 most probably mean?

    A. Curiosity. B. Creativity.

    C Memory. D. Imagination.

    10. What should you do to make observational learning successful?

    A. Learn to be judgmental. B. Look for a motivator.

    C. Try to be imaginative. D. Focus on the process.

    11. According to the text, the social learning theory ___________.

    A. was doubted at first B. remains to be tested

    C. is of practical use D. is based on experiments

    D

Today, China has conducted its first 3D printing experiment in space in a newly launched spacecraft, which was put into low-Earth orbit by China’s Long March 5B heavy lift carrier rocket.

Video broadcast on CCTV showed that the printer has printed a flat section of a honeycomb-shaped structure as well as a symbol of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp, the parent company of the China Academy of Space Technology. The experiment was done by a 3D printer, developed and built by its Beijing Spacecrafts Manufacturing Factory, inside the prototype (原型) of China’s new — generation manned spacecraft.

The printer, named the Space-Based Composite Material 3D Printing System, uses carbon fiber-reinforced materials to autonomously print objects. It is placed in the reentry module (返回舱) of the experimental spaceship, and will be brought back to Earth once the module returns.

The printer features advanced technologies in material modeling, accuracy control and automation. Once the space-based 3D printing technology becomes operationally ready, it can extensively benefit space programs as astronauts can use it to manufacture (大规模制造) a lot of things they currently now need to obtain from resupply flights by cargo spacecraft.

Wang Yanan, editor-in-chief of the Aerospace Knowledge magazine, said the 3D Printer will be very useful in extended space missions, such as those in a space station, because it will allow astronauts to make components (零件) quickly and conveniently in space. The technology will save future space journeys considerable resources and costs.

In fact, the device is not the only representative of 3D printing on board the Prototype.

A CubeSat deployer, designed and made through 3D printing by CoSats Space Technology, is also carried by the spacecraft to check the adaptability of 3D-printed equipment in space. CoSats Chief Operating Officer Bai Ruixue said the 3D-Printed deployer is much lighter and stronger than its counterparts and it will have huge potential in the space industry.

    12. What did the video broadcast on CCTV show to the audience?

A The process and the products of the 3D printing.

    B. The name and the shape of the 3D printer.

    C. The significance of the 3D printing technology.

    D. The relationship between the two companies.

    13. What if a component is broken in the space station now?

    A. It has to be sent by spaceship back to earth for repair.

    B. The astronauts make one using 3D printing and replace it.

    C. The astronauts can fix it conveniently by hand on the spot.

D It has to be unloaded and abandoned in space.

    14. Why is the last paragraph mentioned?

    A. To introduce the CubeSat deployer produced in space.

    B. To explain the advantages of the 3D printing in space.

    C. To show the adaptability of 3D printing in space.

    D. To indicate a bright future of 3D printing in space.

    15. What can be a suitable title for the text?

    A. 3D printing experiment conducted in space. B. 3D printing set to help ease space trips.

    C. 3D printing launched by Long March 5B. D. 3D printing—a new way to explore space.

Dad and Mom had got to go on a four-day business trip. They taught their elder son Daniel and younger daughter Jane how to feed and look after their dog, Spot, how to take good care of themselves—learning to cook if they could, or ordering pizza—with money left on the table—if they were busy, and told them to keep their rooms clean and tidy. They asked Daniel to be in charge.

On the very morning when the parents left, Mom kissed them and said to Daniel gently, “Young man, do take care of Spot and Jane.” Daniel promised, “I will, Mom.”

Too excited to fall asleep again, Daniel and Jane jumped out of bed, calling out each other to get up. Their pet dog, Spot, heard the similar voice and rushed in, with a ball in its mouth. Jane stuck() her head into Daniel’s room,“Spot got up an hour earlier. Let’s walk it.” Daniel said excitedly, “I’m coming, but, Jane, don’t forget to keep your room clean and tidy.” “I will.”

They ran with the dog in the yard and threw the ball away for Spot to bring it back. They had fun playing with Spot the whole morning. Washing Spot was slow and tiring as it was the first time they had done it. Then Daniel settled down to his homework while Jane did her reading with interest.

The following day, Jane begged her brother to order pizza for lunch. Daniel agreed excitedly, “We haven’t tasted that for long and we behave ourselves, right?”After a while, he added, “We should save money, too.” Within half an hour, they treated themselves to a big pizza. However, in the afternoon, Spot looked sick, lying lazily and unwilling to move. Daniel was concerned about the dog and took it to the pet clinic immediately with Jane as their parents had done.
