Step 1　Lead-in

Have a free talk about Xi’an.

T: Boys and girls，Xi’an is an ancient city, and it has many places of interest. You must have known them before. Who can tell us something about the famous city.

S1: I went there last year and visited the Big Wild Goose Pagoda.

S2: I ate some special food there.

S3: ... 

Step 2　Presentation

Teacher says: In this lesson we are going to visit Xi’an with Jenny, Danny, Li Ming and Wang Mei. First, let’s learn the new words: hit, ancient, ring, bell, enjoy, dish, tour, guide, move.

Step 9　Working in groups

Share the information you found in Activity 4. Then do a role-play. One or two students can be the tour guide(s) and the rest of the group can be the tourists.

1. Welcome to Xi’an — the Walled City.欢迎来到西安——围墙之城。　

(1) welcome to... 意为“欢迎来到……”，to是介词，后面接名词或动名词。

Welcome to our school. 欢迎来到我们学校。

(2) walled意为“被墙围绕着的” ，是过去分词，作定语，表示被动含义。

The Palace Museum is a walled palace.故宫是一座被墙环绕着的宫殿。

2. You can climb up the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. 你可以爬山大雁塔。

climb动词，意为“攀登，爬”。常用短语： 

climb up向上爬　climb down向下爬

The cat is climbing up the tree.那只猫正在往树上爬。

3. It is over 1 300 years old.它有1300多年的历史。

over介词，意为“超过”，表示数量，后接数词，相当于more than。

There are over 10 people on the playground.操场上有十多个人。

4. Eat delicious Chinese food and enjoy the special dishes of Xi’an.

(1) enjoy动词，意为“喜欢;享受……的乐趣”。

(2) dish名词，意为“一道菜；碟，盘”。

have fun意为“玩得愉快”，相当于have a good time或enjoy oneself。它可单独使用，也可接动词­ing形式。

Step 12　Homework

Write a short passage to introduce Xi’an using some phrases like “enjoy delicious dishes, welcome to…” according to the text. The title is “A Trip to Xi’an”.
