It s an all too common story: A young child walks off during a party and falls into a backyard pool. No one notices she’s missing—until it’s too late. When Grayson Barron learned of such a tragedy in a friend’s neighbourhood, the 18-year-old immediately jumped into problem-solving mode. The new pool alarm system he’s just developed sends out several types of warnings when someone or something splashes into an unguarded pool.
Grayson calls his floating system “The Buoy(浮标)”. The idea is to turn it on when no one is using the pool. A large splash will trigger its built-in sensors to send out a series of alerts一a flashing light, an alarm that sounds like a loud doorbell and a text to the owner’s mobile phone. You could be on the other side of the world and know if somebody has just jumped in your pool.
Grayson’s is not the first pool alarm, but the teen says others all have drawbacks. Some are very costly. Other floating alarms can become stuck in corners of a pool or lose balance. He wanted a low-cost option that was reliable(可靠的). Grayson 3-D printed the main part of his device, then attached sensors. They detect its direction and movements. He then equipped the device with a light, a speaker and a wireless network that can send texts. A battery, which is hooked up to solar panels, keeps the system charged for months.
While hard to design, the new system “is so easy to use,” says Grayson. “All I do is turn it on and throw it into a pool.” After that, he says, it just “does its thing”.
29.Why was a child falling into a pool mentioned in the first paragraph?
A.To remind the importance of safety. B.To prepare for the topic of the text.
C.To praise Grayson Barron. D.To show accidents are everywhere.
30.What does the underlined word “trigger” in paragraph 2 mean?
    A.Cause. B.Ask. C.Encourage. D.Persuade.
31.Which of the following is the disadvantage of Grayson’s pool alarm?
A.It is very expensive. B.It s easy to get stuck.
C.It easy to lose balance. D.It s difficult to design.

In the city I live in, we have a small local national park full of trees. I like that place very much, although I do wish it was bigger.

Just at that time, a man with two little kids was behind me. They were my neighbors. They were going up the same path. I said hello to them. The dad asked me, “Why are you standing still here?” I said, “Look! Here is a beautiful squirrel, but…” Noticing the squirrel, one of the kids shouted, “Quickly dad, catch it for me. I want to put it in my birdcage.” His brother nodded, asking their dad to catch the squirrel.
Then I stopped them. “Please wait. Do you really want to catch it and put it into the birdcage?” My neighbor said, “Yes. I will catch it and take it home.” I said angrily, “Animals are our friends and this is the last place in our city that the squirrel can live in. We must protect them. If we are kind to this tiny animal then we can start to be kind to bigger ones.” My neighbor smiled and said, “You misunderstood me. I will take it home and cure(治疗) it and when it is well, I will take it back to the park and set it free. Do you come long with me?”After hearing his words, I became happy. I followed him with the injured squirrel to his home. A few days later, when the squirrel was well, we took it back to the park and sent it free.

Do you know how many bones are there in your body? When you were a baby you had about 330 bones, and now you have just over 200 bones. The number reduces because some bones join together as you grow. Your wonderful bones work together to protect you and support your body.

Many bones protect your body. For example, the bone that makes up your head is called the skull. The skull surrounds your brain and protects it. The ribs that cover your chest protect your heart and lungs.

    Biggest Bone
The longest and strongest bone in your body is in your leg. It is called the femur and it goes from your hip to your knee. It is a very important bone because it carries all of your weight and helps you move from place to place.

When sound waves come into your ear, the stirrup shakes back and forth, allowing the sound waves to reach your brain. When the waves reach your brain, you hear the sound.
    “Funny” Bone
Hah! The funny bone isn’t really a bone at all. It is actually a nerve (神经). When you hit the nerve that is near your elbow, it really hurts or tingles. What’s so funny about that? 2.D

None都不(三或三者以上);Either(两者中)任意一个;Both(两者) 都;Neither(两者) 都不。根据“your father or your mother”和“I’m able to finish my homework at school”可知,两个人都不帮,故选D。

    5.B
    6.A
breaking out爆发;putting out熄灭;handing out分发;turning out结果是。 故选A。
    7.C

根据句子结构可知“together with its listening material”为介词短语,作为插入语,真正的主语为“This English book”,且为单数,所以排除选项C和D;sell well表示卖得很好,此时不用被动语态,故选A。
    11.B

Give给;Giving动名词;To give不定式;To be given不定式被动语态。根据“... my mother a surprise, I cooked...”
That’s not the case事实并非如此;I can’t agree more我完全同意;You can’t be serious你不是认真的吧;That can’t be better那再好不过了。根据“it’ll be hard for you to lose weight.”和“but I just can’t help myself.”
    15.A
根据“we discussed...” 故选A。

After class, you need to read more books. In this way, you can learn more about our traditional culture and foreign culture as well. When you have some problems with your study, go to your friends or teachers for help.

That will make your school life more interesting and colourful. To get along well with your classmates, try to avoid getting angry. If you have a problem with some of them, talk about it.
