The Double Ninth Festival is a special day for elderly people in China. The festival is on the ninth day of the ninth month of the lunar calendar. As the Chinese word for nine has the same sound as the word for long, people take the Double Ninth Festival to show their wishes of long life for elderly people.

April 23 is known as World Book Day. The idea of setting a day to encourage reading came out from UNESCO (联合国教科文组织) in 1995. In fact, it started long before that in Spain. In 1922, Spanish writer Vicente Clavel Andrés suggested the idea as a way to honor their famous writer Miguel de Cervantes. Four years later, the first celebration took place on October 7, Cervantes’ birthday. In 1930, it was moved to April 23, the date of his death.
Every year since 2001, one city around the world is chosen to be the UNESCO World Book Capital for a year. The task of the city is to carry out activities to encourage “a culture of reading and spreading its values in all ages in and out of the country.”

Animals play so many important roles in our lives. Some, like cows and sheep, provide us with food; pets are our friends; other animals work for us. Above all, every animal—big or small—can fill us with a sense of the wonder of the natural world.
Unluckily, we don’t always value this. Many animals are endangered because of our actions, and millions of animals in the world are badly treated. World Animal Day reminds us, at least for one day a year, “to celebrate animal life in all its forms” and “to be thankful for the way in which animals enrich(使丰富)our lives.”
World Animal Day was started in 1931 in Florence, Italy. It made us pay attention to the problem of endangered animals around the world. It is now celebrated in most countries around the world. The day falls on October 4th every year.
All over the world on this day, volunteers raise money for animal centers and social organizations. Museums and zoos organize special events. Schools have also joined animal projects. No matter what is done, the idea is to remind us of the importance of animals and to show us how we could improve our relationship with animals.
If you want to take part, you could help an animal or organize a money-raising event for a local charity. The important thing is just taking an active part. We should offer animals as much as they offer us.

    Dear Peter,
How is everything going? I’m glad to share something about traditional festivals in China.
The Dragon Boat Festival is coming. Dragon Boat Festival, also called Duan Wu Festival, is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese Lunar Year. The festival was created in honor of a respectable poet in ancient China, who had great devotion for the people but was unfairly treated by the king of his country. Hopeless and angry, he threw himself into the Milo River. Nowadays, people in China observe this traditional holiday by holding dragon boat races and eating zong zi.
My family got reunion and we went on a travel to Milo River last Dragon Boat Festival.
In my opinion, Dragon Boat Festival is one of the most important holidays in China, for it reminds us the true spirit of honesty and loyalty of our ancestors.
I hope the above is helpful.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
    Yours,
    Li Hua

Small gifts are usually offered when they get right answers. It’s a tradition to eat tang yuan on this special day.
As for the next step, we will focus on designing lanterns and making English riddles. This will help us understand the meaning of the festival better.
    That’s all. Thank you!

    Version 2
Dear classmates, I’m very happy to share our research with you. The subject we’ve chosen is the Dragon Boat Festival. To do the research, we searched for information online and visited a local museum about culture and customs.
