    Unit 7 AbilitiesReading (I) I. Teaching aims and learning objectives By the end of the lesson, students should be able to: 1. learn about a brave young man Lin Tao; 2. use proper expressions to describe dangerous situations; 3. infer the general idea of the article from its title and picture. II. Teaching contents 1. New words and phrases: brave, burn, fireman, nod, save sb. from a fire, hear sb. shouting, a 79-year-old man, pour water over, put out the fire, be in hospital, rush into, be careful with, be alone, be badly hurt 2. New sentences: What a brave young man! Fire is dangerous. We should be careful with fire. Be careful with fireworks. Don’t play with matches. Don’t put anything hot into the rubbish bin. Keep your hair away from fire. III. Focus of the lesson and predicted area of difficulty 1. To use proper expressions to describe dangerous situations. 2. To skim the text for overall meaning and scan for details. IV. Teaching procedures Step 1 Lead-in T: As we all know, reading newspapers can help us know more about the world. Can you get the important information from the newspaper. Please look at the one I read yesterday and answer two questions. 1) What’s the name of the newspaper? 2) What’s the headline(标题) of the news? S: Sunny Daily. What a brave young man! T: You are so clever. When you see the headline, who will you think of? I will think of Superman. S: Batman and Spiderman. 【设计意图:让学生了解英语报刊阅读基本方法,并让学生从对标题猜想,引入学生心中的勇敢人物形象,从而激发学生的阅读兴趣,带着猜想和好奇阅读文章。】 Step 2 Presentation Task 1 New words 1. Learn new words. T: (图片展示超人、蜘蛛侠、蝙蝠侠) They are brave. They can save people from danger. (带读brave和save…from…) T: Look at the picture in the newspaper. Can you guess what happened? S: A fire. A man saved an old woman. T: Why is the man brave? S: Because fire is very dangerous. T: Wonderful. Let’s look at the picture and find out how dangerous fire is. T: The building is on fire. It can burn people. There is a lot of smoke. The firemen can put it out. (带读on fire, burn, smoke, firemen, put out并板书) 【设计意图:鼓励学生根据图片说出火灾危险性,培养学生的安全意识。在学生表达有困难时,教师可适时给予帮助和指导。】 Task 2 Fast reading 1. Read and answer. T: Do you want to know how the man saved the old lady. Read the article and fill in the blanks. 2. Divide the article into three parts. T: Let’s divide the article into three parts according to the three pictures and get the main idea. (阅读指导:关注每段的中心句。) Part 1 Paragraph 1. The beginning of the story. Part 2 Paragraphs 2—3. How he saved the old lady. Part 3 Paragraphs 4—6. The result. 【设计意图:通过分段,让学生对课文有了更清晰的层次感。分段处理文本,帮助学生更为扎实、到位地理解课文。练习设计多样化,避免了形式过于单一。】 Task 3 Detailed reading 1. Paragraph 2. T: Read Paragraph 2 after the tape and do the True or False exercise. T: Why did the fire happen in the kitchen? S: There is a rubbish bin the kitchen. T: What else? (图片展示煤气灶和煤气管道) T: Maybe they caused the fire. Can you give Mrs Sun some advice? S: Don’t leave the stove on. Turn off the gas in time.(及时) Do not put anything hot into the rubbish bin. 【设计意图:详读第二段,讨论为什么火灾发生在厨房,并引导学生给出防火建议。】 2. Paragraph 3. T: Look at the pictures and fill in the blanks. T: What does the word ‘rush’ mean? S: Run qickly. (体会用词的准确性。) T: Can you act it out? (一个学生读,两个学生按情节表演。) T: What do you think of Lin Tao? T: Maybe Lin Tao forgot to do something first. Can you give him some advice? S: Call 119 for help first. Run out of the fire from the entrance. Pour water over the door. Put a wet towel(毛巾) over his mouth. Don’t jump from the building. Don’t take the lift. 【设计意图:详读第三段,引导学生按照故事情节进行表演,帮助学生深刻理解故事发展。并完成让学生通过图片记住故事情节的教学目标】 3. Paragraphs 4—6. T: At last, he saved the lady but what happened to him? Read the rest and answer the questions 1. Was Lin Tao badly hurt in the fire? Why? 2. What did many people give him? S: Lin Tao was badly hurt. Many people give him flowers and presents. 【设计意图:通过提问帮助学生进一步理解文章。】 Step 3 Practice Task 4 Practice 1. Make a dialogue. T: Will a reporter come to interview him? Why? S: Yes. Because he did a good thing, we should let more people know him. T: If you were the reporter, what will you ask him? T: Make a dialogue about the interview with Lin Tao. 2. Put the pictures up on the blackboard and retell the article. (板书爱心图形,为主题升华铺垫。) 【设计意图:创设学生作为记者采访刘涛,通过图片排列让学生回顾故事情节。升华主题---水火无情,人间有爱。】 3. How to be careful with fire. T: If we are careless, the fire will happen to us. What can we do to prevent it and how to protect ourselves?Discuss with your group members. T: Be careful with fireworks. Do not play with matches. Do not put anything hot into the rubbish bin. Keep your hair away from fire. 4. Do Ture or False. (用火常识和逃生方式的测试。) 【设计意图:了解用火安全以及发生危险时候的逃生方法。】 V. Conclusion T: What have you learnt from the article? S: We get to know that Liu Tao is a brave man. T: What’s more, fire is dangerous. We should know how to prevent fire and protect ourselves from the fire. Can you make a report on how to be with fire? S: We all know that fire is very important. But sometimes if we are not careful with fire, it will be very dangerous. But if there is a fire, we should be careful and brave. First, we can… Then we can… We should… But remember we can’t… Safety is above all(安全高于一切). T: Thank you. Now you know much about fire. You’ve done a job. Ⅵ. Homework. 1. Tell the story to others. 2. Tell your family how to be careful with fire. Ⅶ. Teaching reflection Reading部分教学是本单元的主要部分,单元的主题和重点知识都在此部分呈现,其次阅读能力也是初中生英语学习的重要目标,现我结合本节课的教学反思如下: 1. 本节课的背景是报刊阅读,所以在理解全文之前我指导学生报刊阅读的正确方法。 2. 本节课讲述了一个男孩把一位老人从火灾中救出的故事,为了让学生详细阅读故事情节,我设计了一个表演活动,帮助学生对故事情节深刻理解。 3. 关于用火安全知识以及逃生常识也是本节课教师应该给学生传递的,所以我尝试了抓住文中的细节,对学生进行有效的追问——你可以给林涛和老妇人分别提出建议吗?依靠这样的情境,帮助学生了解有关用火安全的知识。 4. 文章的复述是有必要的,同样创设什么样的情境也是激发学生兴趣的关键,我采用的方法是以排序图片的形式来完成这样的任务,效果不错,复述同时,还给学生脑中留下很多的画面。 5. 升华主题,一节课中教师应该从文本中挖掘有利于树立正确人生观和价值观的素材,通过细节阅读和体会,揭示主题。本节课主题我设定为——水火无情,人间有爱。既强调火灾的危险,又突出人在灾难出显真情的正能量。 WhoLin Tao and Mrs SunWhenOn 10 MayWhereIn Mrs Sun’s kitchenWhatLin Tao saved Mrs Sun from the fire
