Hwever, it's pssible that we might be making ur thanks mre cmplex. In a paper, researchers cmpared the effects f expressing thanks in persn, ver a vide call, and ver text. And, while peple generally expect an in-persn thank-yu t be the mst effective, what happened in reality was quite different: Sending a thank-yu ver text was almst as effective as that. Additinally, texting may be especially well-suited fr situatins where we feel awkward r embarrassed abut expressing ur appreciatin.
In the study.219 cllege students participated in a gratitude activity in which they wrte abut three things they were grateful fr ver a tw-week perid. At the beginning and end f the tw weeks, participants cmpleted surveys measuring their feelings f well-being, cnnectins with thers, lneliness and happiness.
The researchers fund that peple wh expressed gratitude gained increased happiness, with nly a few differences fr the different methds f gratitude expressin. Overall, vide calls were just as beneficial as meeting in persn. Texting was slightly less effective than vide calling-it didn't make peple feel mre cnnected and happier, while vide calling did. Hwever, participants wh sent their thanks ver text still experienced benefits: Texting imprved their well-being and reduced their lneliness.
