Bb added, “The children were als able t help peple living at Epilepsy Sciety because they will gain (得到) sme well-needed privacy frm the hedge in time. The natural wildlife benefits t frm the fruits and nuts that a hedge made frm native (土生土长的) species can prvide as well as the pssibility fr any number f nesting sites.”
Emma Darlingtn, Epilepsy Sciety’s vlunteer fficer, said, “I think it’s s imprtant t encurage the yunger generatin (一代) that the future is in their hands and that they can make a difference, whether it is thrugh taking part in prjects like this r spreading awareness. She leads a shrt life, but a very rich ne. She wears many beautiful and expensive dresses and wnderful furs, and she is seen in the best stres. She has peple t dress her and keep her face pretty. Still, even thugh she has thusands f admirers (爱慕者), she rarely smiles. Althugh she is beautiful, she rarely meets men f her wn kind. She is, as yu might have guessed, the mannequin (人体模特) wh lks dreamy frm the windws f stres.
Sme f the peple wh design windw displays think f mannequins nly as bjects t wrk with, but mst f the peple wh make use f the figures call them by name. Althugh a mannequin has a number given t it by the prducer, it is very ften knwn by the name f the wman wh mdeled fr it.
What the stres lk fr these days are interesting, rather than perfect faces. Like Sara Kapp’s, fr example. She is a prfessinal mdel whse lkalike, prduced by the Adel Rtstein cmpany, is nw ppular. Sara’s lng nse and her green eyes make her face unusual rather than beautiful.
As fashins (时尚) change, nt nly are there changes in faces, but changes in pses (姿势) t. The figures have becme mre realistic. Until a few years ag, mannequins were made withut tes (脚趾). But nw that pen shes have becme ppular, tes are necessary. “When trusers were very ppular, mannequins std differently,” says Candy Pratts, wh directs windw designers at Blmingdale’s, a large New Yrk stre. “Nw they stand in a mre relaxed way that is better fr dresses.”
Even thugh a mannequin gets excellent care, her life in a gd stre is nt likely t be mre than tw years. Blmingdale’s has 160 mannequins in use, and Candy Pratts says her department buys sme new nes every tw mnths. The 1993 mvie Jurassic Park wasn’t the first film t shw dinsaurs (恐龙) in the mdern wrld. But it did a gd jb f bringing the idea f clning dinsaurs int ppular culture. It represented dinsaur clning in a way that made sense t a lt f peple, and it was a successful film, making mre than $900 millin wrldwide.
Jurassic Park built n the idea f getting DNA frm msquites (蚊子) kept in amber. While this might seem pssible at first sight, it’s highly unlikely that scientists culd find usable dinsaur DNA in msquit fssils (化石). Scientists wuld need a very specific sample — a female msquit that had taken lts f dinsaur bld immediately befre being trapped (困住) in amber. Since fssilizatin in amber is a relatively rare event, the chances f this happening are pretty small.
The lack f pssible samples isn’t the nly prblem. Mst insect fssils fund in amber are als t yung t cntain dinsaur bld — dinsaurs were gne by the time the insects became trapped. Many insects went bad frm the inside ut after they were trapped, leaving nthing inside fr scientists t try t find. Finally, the sample wuld have t be very dry, since DNA can break dwn quickly in the presence f water.
But if researchers did find a perfectly kept msquit with a bdy full f dinsaur bld, bringing back its DNA wuld still be difficult. The bld with the dinsaur DNA wuld be surrunded by the bdy f an insect, which has its wn DNA. There culd als be DNA frm ther cells trapped in the amber. Then, f curse, there’s the DNA in the labratry itself — and in the bdy f the scientist.
    32. Why is the film Jurassic Park mentined at the beginning?
    A. T lead int the tpic f clning dinsaurs.
    B. T encurage scientists t clne dinsaurs.
    C. T give a simple intrductin t dinsaurs.
    D. T stress the pssibility f clning dinsaurs.
    33. The key t clning dinsaurs is t gain _____.
    A. insect fssils
    B. dinsaur DNA
    C. dinsaur bld
    D. msquites in amber
    34. What is the authr’s pinin n clning dinsaurs?
    A. It is a step away frm success.
    B. It will be a fruitless attempt.
    C. It requires further research.
    D. It lacks creative wrk.
    35. What can be a suitable title fr the text?
    A. Why was Jurassic Park successful?
    B. Reasns fr dinsaurs’ dying ut
    C. Can scientists clne dinsaurs?
    D. Ways f clning dinsaurs

I thught we all knew why independent schl students d better than thse in the state sectr (区). They have mre mney, mre funding and better resurces and they dn’t have the mre challenging (具有挑战性的) students we get in the state sectr.
That was befre I became a teacher-researcher in a tw-year prject led by my cllege, aiming t find the best way t supprt high-ability students. With funding frm the Lndn Schls Excellence Fund, we teamed up with sme f the cuntry’s tp private schls, like Etn and St Paul’s, as well as a number f state schls, t find ut hw t bring the knwledge-rich learning that characterises independent schls int the state sectr.
Befre the prject, I hadn’t had much cntact with peple wh had been educated there. But the first thing I fund when I visited was that teachers are the same. In the independent sectr, they have challenges t — just different nes.
After tw years, ur research prject has prduced a huge set f findings.
One f the mst useful findings was the imprtance f independent learning habits utside the classrm. I realised that althugh I was always telling students that they needed t d fur t five hurs f private study a week, they didn’t have a clear idea f what this culd lk like beynd making ntes. S I set them different activities including reading articles, ding activities and cmpleting examinatin questins.
I started t put much mre emphasis (重点) n activities utside the classrm, like researching tpics beynd the syllabus (教学大纲) r discussing things in the news. And I praised anyne wh asked questins in class, s we created a culture where students were prud t ask a questin rather than seeing it as a way f flagging up the fact they hadn’t understd smething.
My research is beginning t have a real influence. My students nw cme t class and tell me what they want t knw abut. But they n lnger expect me t d the research — they want t find ut fr themselves. At the end f the year I gave students a questinnaire n independent learning. One wrte: “Independent learning wuld limit the help I gt frm ther students. It helps yu t think fr yurself.”
