My questin is hw t learn English effectively. DS: Well,my advice is t increase yur knwledge f English beynd the classrm. One way t d that is by reading mre. I wuld recmmend that yu try simplified classic literature,such as shrt stries and nvels rewritten in simple English. The ther way is t listen mre, fr example,listening t English prgrammes. With sufficient language input,I’m sure yu can learn English effectively. Y: Hell,Dr. Smith. My name is Yang An. I find memrising new wrds very difficult. DS: Hi,Yang An. S what d yu nrmally d t memrise new wrds? Y: I just try t memrise the wrd list and it is s difficult and bring.
    DS: Well,I dn’t think memrising the wrd list is the best way t learn wrds. First, yu shuld learn wrds in cntext . Fr example,when reading English stries,try t keep reading n even when yu cme acrss sme new wrds. A lt f the time, yu’ll be able t guess the meaning f an unfamiliar wrd withut lking it up. Als,yu shuld learn wrds in chunks . Fr example,we say “pen the bk”, but “turn n the cmputer”. Or we say “eat an apple”,but “take the medicine”. Y: OK. I see. S I need t learn wrds in cntext and in chunks. Thank yu very much. S: Hell,Dr. Smith. I’m Su Qin. Learning grammar is a big headache fr me. I’ve put s much time in memrising grammar rules and ding a lt f exercises,but my English is still really bad. DS: Hi,Su Qin. Just memrising the rules is nt helpful. My advice is that when yu learn a grammar rule,yu shuld try t use it in speaking and writing activities. By ding s,yu’ll be learning grammar ina mre natural way than frm a grammar bk.
