“Early to bed and early to rise make a man healthy, wealthy and wise.” This is an old English saying. It means that when we go to bed early, we can get up early the next morning .Then we will become healthy. We will also become rich and clever.

This is true. To be healthy, we must have enough sleep .Experts (专家）say that adults should get seven to eight hours of sleep a night. Teenagers need nine to ten hours. And school-aged children may need more than ten hours of sleep. Children who do not have enough sleep can’t do their work very well. They won’t be wise and they may not become wealthy!

We also need exercise. Walking, running, swimming and playing games are all exercise. Exercise keeps us strong .It also helps the blood to move around the body. This is very important. Our blood takes the nutrition(营养）from food to all parts of our body.

Meng Chen is a student in Beijing. He goes to the Forbidden City almost every day. He tells visitors about the clocks in the Hall of Clocks (钟表馆）. Meng is one of around 300 volunteer tour guides in the Forbidden City. One third of them are university students. They hang around the palace like other visitors，but with red “volunteer” cards on their clothes.
Meng said he loves spending time in the buildings where 24 emperors (皇帝）spent their whole lives. “Every brick (砖）has a story to tell，” he said.
But volunteer work is more than fun. Meng has to study for the job. It took him about three months to remember every detail (细节）of the clocks in the clock gallery.
And it can be frustrating (令人沮丧的）. Often tourists turn down volunteer guides. “Too many people are in a rush to finish sightseeing. They don’t have time to listen to us，” said Shi Hui. He is a university student who volunteers there. Working as volunteers is popular with students in summer holidays. It is believed to be a good way for them to learn about duties.
