A zero-waste life is a lifestyle that hardly creates any rubbish.

“Zero waste” was first suggested by a French woman called Bea Johnson. Her idea is: live a life and try not to create any rubbish; use different kinds of ways to save the environment, such as stopping the use of one-off objects; giving unwanted things to others or donating these things to organizations like the Red Cross.

      A zero-waste life follows the 6R rule—Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Recycle and Rot. Chen Yuan, 27, is deeply interested in this idea. She and her boyfriend Joe have lived in Beijing for many years. Over August-October when Chen followed the rule of zero waste 6R, she and her boyfriend both produced only two cans of rubbish. Now the couple have opened a small shop in Beijing, where they use wood products to take the place of plastic ones and cloth bags printed with environmentally logos. The store also has second-hand books and CDs to make the best of the used things.

    “The zero-waste lifestyle is not for ascetics (苦行僧). It is just around us.” Chen expects some of her friends to join her on the road to zero waste.

Getting a pie from the sky is becoming a reality in the city as online delivery platform Meituan has been allowed to start drone delivery service (无人机送餐服务), Shenzhen Evening News reported.

At Galaxy World in Longgang District, a reporter from the newspaper watched how a meal has been delivered by the drone on Thursday. The drone slowly landed and a door above the Meituan Intelligent Dining Cabinet (储藏柜) opened slowly, where the drone put the meal box inside the cabinet.

“It takes about 15 minutes to place the order and receive the meal. A lot of people have tried the drone delivery service here,” said a woman who just took her meal box out from the cabinet.

During the year 2022, food and drinks such as noodles, fruits, coffee and milk tea and even flowers have been delivered through Meituan’s drone delivery system, the report said.

The company said that as of last year, it had completed over 100,000 drone deliveries. Meituan started to explore drone delivery service in 2017 and started the try in early 2021. The service has an average delivery time of 12 minutes, which is less than traditional delivery methods, according to the company.

There are only a few cities in the world with the advantages of drone delivery service, and Shenzhen is taking the lead in China, according to the report. However, there are still some problems with this kind of service.

Wild China Film, an organization started a project to take pictures of giant trees in southwest China's Yunnan. In fact, they started the project to photograph Chinese giant trees as early as February 2018.

After the climber found a proper climbing path leading to the top of the tree, a photographer slowly started to climb the tree by following the same path. At last, the photographer found out that the tree was 72 meters in height. This is the tallest giant tree on Eurasia（欧亚大陆） that has been exactly measured (测量) and photographed by artificial climbing. The professional climber discovered more than 10 kinds of plants living on the tree trunk during the climb.

It took the photographers nearly 70 hours to finally take the first picture of the giant tree. “We have every reason to believe that in places where it rains more, there are more giant trees for us to discover,” said a photographer.
