    (2023秋·山东威海·高二统考期末)
[1] Inakadate is considered the home of Tanbo art, a rice field art form. Its story as a world-renowned tourist destination began in the early 1990s, when local authorities realized that youths were moving to large urban centers continuously, and started brainstorming for ways of reviving (焕发生机) the village. One of the proposed ideas was an art form inspired by the local’s traditional rice farming, done by hand for hundreds of years. Tanbo art involved the use of different-color rice varieties to turn local rice fields into giant canvases (画布) for complicated designs that revealed their beauty when viewed from above.
[2] The first rice field artwork was unveiled in 1993, when purple and yellow rice plants were used to create a detailed picture of Mt. Iwaki — the highest mountain in Aomori — along with easily recognized characters. A viewing platform was set up somewhere above the rice field, from which people could admire the unique artwork in all its glory. The project was so successful that Inakadate authorities decided to turn it into a yearly event.
[3] To create the impressively massive rice field artworks, locals use a technique which involves surveying the rice fields, perspective drawing (透视绘图), and the handmade plantation of various types of rice plants to create the desired visual effect. Tanbo art has come a long way in the last three decades, with designs gradually becoming larger and more complicated.
[4] Many locals say that Tanbo art has saved Inakadate, bringing in impressive numbers of people from all over the world and boosting the local economy. According to CoolJP, around 200,000 people flocked to Inakadate to see its unique artworks in 2006, and by 2016 that number had ballooned to around 340,000.
1.Why was the idea of Tanbo art proposed?
A.To promote the local rice brand. B.To breathe new life into the village.
C.To publicize the traditional rice planting. D.To appeal to youths to start new business.
2.What does the underlined “unveiled” in Paragraph 2 mean?
    A.Painted. B.Selected. C.Discovered. D.Displayed.
3.Which of the following best describes the technique used in Tanbo art?
    A.Cutting-edge. B.Traditional. C.Multi-field. D.Unique.
4.Which local industry has benefited most from Tanbo art?
    A.Education. B.Tourism. C.Agriculture. D.Architecture.

(2023秋·山东威海·高二统考期末)[1] What do North Carolina’s red wolves, the Eurasian beaver and Przewalski’s horse have in common?
[2] All of them went extinct in the wild — and all of them came back, thanks to reintroduction programs.
[3] Conservation scientists use translocation and captive breeding (圈养繁殖) to re-establish animal populations that have died out in the wild — either entirely or in certain areas. Reintroducing extinct-in-the-wild animals to their native territories can be a double win: helping to restore damaged ecosystems, as well as increasing population numbers.
[4] But setting a species loose in the wild is a risky balancing act. Reintroductions often take years and involve multiple stages. Before bringing back a species, conservationists have to evaluate the threat level — both to and from the animal — and the role it played in the ecosystem. In places where wild populations have died out more recently, there’s a better chance of success. The less time that has passed, the more likely that environment is the same as when the species went extinct. But scientists still need to address the reason why it went extinct in that environment to begin with.
[5] Reintroduced animals can have a positive impact on the landscape, but how fast this happens depends on the type of animal and how damaged the environment is. Herbivores (食草动物) can make a significant change relatively quickly, while predators tend to be reintroduced slowly and carefully. Although they can be useful for managing pest species, conservationists have to ensure they don’t overhunt or threaten other vulnerable animals.
[6] A 2020 study highlighted species reintroduction as one of the most effective ways to save endangered animals. The study estimates that conservation action between 1993 and 2020 saved up to 48 species of birds and mammals from extinction, and that the rate of extinction would have been three to four times higher, during that period, without those efforts.
5.What are the reintroduction programs aimed at?
    A.Bringing back a species. B.Enlarging a species’ native habitats.
C.Increasing a species’ number. D.Developing new breeding methods.
6.What does the underlined word in Paragraph 4 refer to?
A.The collapse of ecosystem. B.Evaluating the threat level.
C.The extinction of a wild population. D.Setting a species loose in the wild.
7.Which of the following may affect the rate of environmental restoration?
A.The size of animals. B.The bio-diversity of animals.
C.The feature of landscapes. D.The extent of environmental damage.
8.What’s the purpose of the text?
A.To call on active measures to save species. B.To highlight the necessity of bio-diversity.
C.To introduce an effective conservation action. D.To stress the importance of a balanced ecosystem.

[1] Fingerboards, known as “Tech Decks”, are miniature replicas (微型复制品) of a skateboard. Fingerboarding is in short, when somebody “rides” a fingerboard with fingers.
[2] Typically riding with their middle and index fingers, people perform tricks replicated from skateboarding. 10 cm long and 25 to 34 mm wide, the deck has grip tape on top and trucks with wheels fixed to the bottom of it, allowing it to roll. In a way, fingerboarding is making it possible to mimic the same tricks you did when skateboarding but at your desk this time.
[3] The first fingerboards were little “DIY” boards created by skaters as toys in the 1980s, when they were made of wood, tubes and other materials. Later on, the miniature boards were seen more as keychain attachments (挂饰). However, it wasn’t long before the fingerboarding scene picked up in popularity and became a bigger part of the skateboarding industry in the 1990s.
[4] The “barely rideable” keychain attachments were improved by the producer “Tech Deck”, which started producing a more rideable version of the fingerboard in the 1990s. Soon they began to print actual skateboard patterns onto the fingerboard decks, which made them even more appealing to skateboarders. In the late 1990s, fancy fingerboards with “actual professional skateboard patterns” started to enter more and more toy shops, and before we knew it fingerboards were seen everywhere.
[5] The development did not stop there. In the past decades, the fingerboard scene has become more and more advanced, especially when it comes to the quality of the boards and the skills of the riders. Now, fingerboarding has spread out to various social media platforms, where “riders” continuously outdo themselves with more advanced tricks.
[6] Fingerboarding eventually evolved from a “hobby toy”, to a lifestyle for some – competing in Championships and various events around the world.
9.What’s the similarity between fingerboarding and skateboarding?
    A.The development. B.The rules.
C.The performing tricks. D.The playing areas.
10.Which feature made the fingerboard pick up in popularity?
    A.It’s DIY. B.It’s rideable. C.It’s decorative. D.It’s professional.
11.What can be inferred about fingerboarding?
A.It’s been an Olympic event. B.It’s updated due to social media.
C.It’s outdone skateboarding. D.It’s a way to challenge oneself.
12.Which is the best title for the text?
A.What Is Fingerboarding? B.A Hobby Toy or A Lifestyle
C.Why Is Fingerboarding? D.Little Board, Big Industry

(2023秋·浙江金华·高二校联考期末)Animal populations across the world have been reduced by 69% in less than 50 years, according to a new scientific report. The report’s authors are calling for urgent action to restore the natural world.
The Living Planet Report (LPR) is produced every two years by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the Zoological Society of London. The most recent report, released on October 13, 2022, shows that almost 70% of the world’s monitored wildlife was lost between 1970 and 2018. The report is based on research from 195 countries around the world. Data was collected from almost 32,000 populations of 5,230 species.
Although the average global loss of wildlife is 69%, the rate is greater in the global south. Latin America and the Caribbean in particular have seen the sharpest fall, having lost 94% of their wildlife since 1970. Across the world, the biggest drop was in freshwater populations of wildlife — including almost 1,400 species of mammals, birds, fish, amphibians and reptiles — which have decreased by 83%.
The report identifies several causes for wildlife loss, including hunting, farming, the loss of forests, pollution and climate change. However, the report also promotes solutions, such as designing less destructive food production systems, urgently protecting the Amazon rainforest, limiting the use of fossil fuels, and creating new laws to protect our natural environment.
Commenting on the report, Marco Lambertini, director general of WWF International, called the figures “terrifying”, and said “we need to restore nature and not simply halt its loss.” In December 2022, world leaders are meeting in Montreal for the 15th UN Biodiversity Conference, also known as COP 15. The authors of the LPR say that this is an opportunity for a global plan to deal with wildlife loss and restore nature. “Government leaders must step up at COP 15,” said Lambertini. “The world is watching.”
16.What does the author mainly want to show by listing the numbers in the first three paragraphs?
A.The causes of the urgent situation.
B.The detailed process of the research.
C.The severity of wildlife loss worldwide.
D.The drop in freshwater populations of wildlife?
17.According to the report, what is a possible solution to population decline of wildlife?
    A.Stop hunting and farming.
B.Ban the production of wildlife food.
C.Offer legal protection of natural environment.
D.Replace the fossil fuels with renewable energy
18.What does the underlined word “halt” mean in the last paragraph?
    A.Accept. B.Stop. C.Fear. D.Suffer.
19.What is Lambertini’s attitude towards wildlife loss?
    A.Objective. B.Indifferent.
    C.Ambiguous. D.Concerned.

(2023秋·山东济宁·高二统考期末)People often call music a universal language, but do certain songs really cause the same mental images in our minds? Scientists at Princeton find that while music absolutely can stimulate(激发)similar mental experiences, the results also strongly suggest culture is a major factor.
A total of 622 people took part in the study. All of the volunteers came from one of three locations: two suburban college towns in the US (one in Arkansas and the other in Michigan), or the rural Chinese village of Dimen. It’s worth noting that the main language in Dimen is Dong, a tonal language unrelated to the official language of China. Locals there have little contact with Western media or culture at all. All participants listened to the exact same 32 “musical stimuli”— which were 60-second cuts of instrumental music. Half of these pieces came from Western music while the rest came from Chinese music.
After hearing, researchers asked the groups about the images they saw in their heads while listening. Incredibly, people from Arkansas and Michigan often described very similar stories, even using the exact same words frequently. Dimen listeners, on the other hand, envisioned stories that were similar to each other but quite different from the American listeners. More specifically, one track led t o Americans seeing a cowboy in the hot desert surveying an empty town. Meanwhile, Chinese participants imagined a man in ancient times reflecting on the loss of a loved one.
“There’s something about the results that’s really surprising, especially because people encounter music in 2022 often in a solitary way, over headphones. But it turns out, it’s still a shared experience, almost like a shred dream, although not universally shared, ”says Elizabeth Margulis, the study author.
The results paint a more complex picture of music’s power. Music can generate remarkably similar stories in listeners’ minds, but it depends on a common set of cultural experiences. So while we imagine music can bring people together, the opposite can also be true-it can distinguish between sets of people with a different background or culture.
20.What is the probable reason for Dimen being selected for the study?
A.Its unique cultural background. B.Its close contact with US.
C.Its complex language system. D.Its long tradition of music.
21.What were the participants required to do after listening to music?
A.Exchange their comments on the scene.
    B.Imagine musicians’ original inspiration.
C.Describe the picture forming in mind.
    D.Recall personal music-related stories.
22.Which is closest in meaning to the underlined word “solitary” in paragraph 4?
    A.Strange. B.Individual. C.Outdated. D.Polite.
23.Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?
A.Unbelievable? Music’s Effects Go beyond Cultures
B.Problem Solved! How Music Brings Us All Together
C.Amazing! Cultures Determine Our Preference for Music
D.Universal Language? Culture Matters When We Hear Music

(2023秋·河北沧州·高二统考期末)For my 56th birthday, my daughter, Beth, bought me two beautifully carved wooden butterflies. I hung them in prominent (显眼的) places on my walls so that I can see them often during the day. Each time I do so, they give me a wonderful reminder of love.
My daughter and my love of butterflies goes back many years. After a long battle against cancer, my mom passed away when I was only 25 years old. Beth was only a baby at the time and never got to have any memories of her grandma. I tried to make up for it by telling her stories of my mom but each time I did, I could see that there was a little sadness in Beth’s eyes. One day when she was only seven or so we were outside at the playground. Beth suddenly said how much she saddened not having her grandma around. Well, sometimes I comforted her and this time I told her how much her grandma loved her and that Grandma still remained positive in the last weeks of her life. I said she was watching over her from Heaven and that maybe she was even hitching (搭乘) a ride on the back of a butterfly to come down and get a closer look. At that very moment, a butterfly appeared flying around Beth’s face and then flew away. We both laughed with our hearts full of love and joy.
Since that moment all of those years ago, both Beth and I seem to attract butterflies like flowers. Whenever we are outside, they seem to fly down, circle around us, take a good look, and then fly away. And every time, we are reminded of my mom’s love watching over us. The only time this doesn’t happen is during the coldest months of the year when there are no insects of any kind. But now during those times I can take a look at the two beautiful wooden butterflies my daughter bought me and still be reminded of that love.
24.Why did Beth buy wooden butterflies?
    A.To celebrate the new year.
    B.To decorate her bedroom.
    C.To celebrate her mother’s birthday.
    D.To remind her childhood.
25.Which of the following can best describe the author’s mom?
    A.Tough and optimistic.
    B.Enthusiastic and helpful.
    C.Independent and reliable.
    D.Knowledgeable and respectable.
26.How did Beth feel when a butterfly flew around her face?
    A.Terrified. B.Confused. C.Joyful. D.Nervous.
27.What does the author intend to tell us through the story?
A.Wooden butterflies are of great artistic value.
B.We all need reminders that we are loved in our life.
C.It is difficult to maintain family ties during difficult times.
D.The presence of parents is important to children’s development.

(2023秋·山东临沂·高二统考期末)The “butterfly effect” may be real, which is used to describe seemingly insignificant events that can have unplanned consequences. But there might be a more literal “butterfly effect” taking place right before our eyes, scientists suggest.
According to new research, insects actually carry electrical charges which can have enormous effects on the atmosphere, potentially influencing even the weather. The findings were published Monday in the journal Science.
Before you can understand that, you have to understand how electrical charges in the atmosphere work. The Earth’s atmosphere always carries an electrical charge to a lesser or greater degree, which scientists refer to as the Potential Gradient (PG). Scientists concluded that atmospheric electricity is primarily driven by natural weather events like thunderstorms and shower clouds, though factors like human pollution also affect it. Researchers, therefore, want to know how electrical charges impact clouds.
To confirm that honeybees carry electrical charges, researchers placed an electrical field monitor near a swarm of (一群) honeybees near the University of Bristol. They also placed a control monitor in a field where there were no bee swarms. The monitor near the bee swarm picked up an increase in electrical charge whereas the control monitor detected no such effect, confirming their assumption.
Second, the researchers wanted to calculate the insects’ electrical effects on the atmosphere compared to the electrical impacts of natural weather events like clouds and dust storms. They calculated the electrical charge of three different types of insect swarms. Most surprisingly, insects’ electrical charges can have just as significant an impact on atmospheric electricity as natural weather events.
The knowledge that insects impact the atmosphere’s electricity has bigger implications for science. PG affects the “movement of aerosols (气溶胶) in the atmosphere, and leads to charging of droplets in some clouds,” according to Hunting. Insect swarms likely won’t drive weather events like thunderstorms, but they could impact the movement of these atmospheric aerosols.
Further research will dive into this previously unexplored field of scientific research and may go beyond insects, since organisms like birds and microbes also carry electrical charges.
28.What does the underlined word “that” in paragraph 3 refer to?
    A.The background of the research.
    B.The publication of journal Science.
C.The work of electrical charges in atmosphere.
D.The electrical effects of insects on atmosphere.
29.How did researchers conduct the process of experiments?
A.By using statistics. B.By analyzing causes.
C.By introducing concepts. D.By making comparisons.
30.Which has the least electrical effects on the atmosphere’s electricity?
    A.Human pollution. B.Shower clouds.
    C.The thunderstorms. D.The insect swarms.
31.What can we learn about the research from the passage?
A.Insect swarms are likely to drive thunderstorms.
B.Natural weather events lead to charging of droplets.
C.Both PG and insect swarms affect the movement of atmospheric aerosols.
D.Researchers have made controlled experiment between insects and organisms.

(2023秋·辽宁沈阳·高二校联考期末)From his uptown Manhattan home, Samir Kumar can usually see skyscrapers (摩天大楼) downtown. But this week, as smoke from wildfires raging in the western United States and Canada stretched all the way to the East Coast, the city skyline was invisible.
Currently, nearly 300 wildfires are burning in British Columbia and about 80 are blazing through states in the U. S. West The fires get worse due to heat waves and prolonged (持续的) drought in the west, two weather patterns made more extreme by climate change.
As the smoke spreads across the country and exposes millions of people, the health impact becomes more widespread among the most vulnerable (易受伤的). In addition to causing breath problems, the smoke can lead to poor heart health. What’s more, smoke from wildfires could make it harder for people to fight off COVID-19 infections and the emerging variants (出现的变体) because their immune (免疫的) systems are already battling pollution. Studies have shown that people exposed to air pollution are more likely to die from COVID-19.
For the first time in its history as a state, California’s population is decreasing Falling birth rates, high housing prices and high taxes have been factors for years, and COVID-19 has strengthened the trend, delaying planned moves into the slate. Many survivors of wildfires have also chosen to rebuild in different states. “If I was starting to raise children… I probably would leave this state.” says Hertz-Picciotto, a director of the university’s health science center. She plans to spend several weeks during the height of wildfire season in August away from her home in northern California, where wildfires have become common.
Reducing air pollution from wildfire smoke in California and the rest of the country will require reducing the number and size of wildfires themselves. Lawmakers have introduced laws aimed at better managing forests, training more firefighters and making infrastructure (基础设施) more fire resistant.
“Ultimately until we stop burning fossil fuels. I don’t see why it’s not going to get worse. It certainly can’t get better,” says Hertz-Picciotto.
35.What’s the function of Paragraph 1?
A.To explain the concern of wildfires.
B.To introduce the spread of wildfires.
C.To describe the situation of wildfires.
D.To demonstrate the threat of wildfires.
    36.What worsens wildfires?
    A.Climate types. B.Human activities.
    C.Extreme weather. D.Climate models.
37.What does wildfire smoke cause according to the text?
    A.Strong immune systems.
    B.Common breath problems.
    C.Emerging infectious discases.
    D.California’s population growth.
38.What is advised to tackle wildfires?
    A.Restricting fossil fuels use.
    B.Moving away from home.
    C.Avoiding exposure to fires.
    D.Fighting fire with fire.

(2023秋·福建泉州·高二统考期末)Stop those negative thoughts! When it comes to brain power, it appears your thoughts matter. That was the eye-opening conclusion of a study published in the journal Alzheimer’s and Dementia.
For this study, scientists carefully measured the cognitive(认知)function of 292 middle-aged to older people over a four-year period. The cognitive assessments included measures of memory, attention and language.
The study subjects(实验对象)had their thinking patterns regularly monitored by responding to a series of questions over two of the four years. The thought-pattem questionnaires were designed to identify repetitive negative thinking (RNT for short). RNT includes often thinking about negative past events as well as future sources of anxiety.
About a third of the study subjects had PET scans(正电子发射计算机断层扫描)of their brains tomeasure levels of the abnormal brain protcins, tau and amyloid. Tau and amyloid build up in people affected with Alzheimer’s disease.
The findings? Study subjects with greater RNT-these repetitive negative thought patterns-exhibited a clear decrease in cognitive function and memory over the four-year period. What’s more, they had more tau and amyloid built up in their brains. It is well-documented that our thoughts have powerful, direct effects on our bodies, so these results aren’t surprising.
Thankfully, studies show that we can change our thought patterns through mental-training practices, with meditation(冥想)documented to be one of the very best.
As someone who often got trapped in negative memories of the remote past, I can speak personally to the remarkable power of meditation to relieve this destructive thinking pattern, and I encourage everyone to explore this practice. I meditate every day and gratefully achieve that goal about 90% of the time.
Feel free to share this post with friends and loved ones because one of the greatest gifts we can give is the gift of better health. Enjoy!
39.How is the subjects’ RNT determined?
    A.By measuring their blood level.
    B.By analyzing their questionnaires.
    C.By monitoring their behaviors.
D.By examining their signs of diseases.
40.What would be the influence of RNT?
    A.Forgetting the negative past.
    B.Changeable thinking patterns.
    C.Worse body shape.
    D.Poorer brain function.
41.What is a recommended solution to RNT?
    A.Having brain scanned regularly.
    B.Buiding up our strength.
    C.Changing our study pattern.
    D.Practicing mental training.

(2023秋·重庆·高二重庆市两江育才中学校校联考期末)It was New Year time, but I wasn’t looking forward to it. That winter, my mother and my stepfather moved our family to Southern California. My brother and I were leaving our rural Alabama behind. This would be our first New Year away from Alabama. My mother took to California like a swan to a royal lake. My athletic little brother, Paul, was thrilled at a climate that allowed him to go to the beach whenever he wanted.
I, however, was a fat child with heavy southern pronunciation. My first day in the new class, I introduced myself in a low voice. The instant I opened my mouth to speak, the whole class burst into laughter, “He talks funny.” It was so frustrating that I went to place a call to Granny Smith after school, who was my biggest support. But I didn’t get through.
On Sunday evening, the phone rang. It was Granny. She often took advantage of the discounted long-distance rates (长途电话费) on Sundays. She said she’d shipped a New Year package. Sure enough, it arrived. Surprised at the box, large enough to hold a small refrigerator, we eagerly tore it open. The smell of Granny’s house filled the room: a combination of fried meat, sausages, furniture polish and decorations. Her house was tiny and always filled with cheap holiday decorations and homemade food before New Year. But in my childhood eyes, it was precious and fantastic.
There were countless tins and containers. We open them to discover piles of holiday treats. She even included our traditional candy bats. The box was as bottomless as a magical box. There, beneath all these, was familiar holiday.
Every New Year that we spent in California, the postal service would call and say our package arrived. Over the years, many treasures arrived in the box. For me, it’s always been the best part of the holiday.

    A.distant. B.Appreciative. C.Joyful. D.anxious.
44.Why did the author’s classmates laugh at him?

A.conventional and determined B.lonely and grateful.
C.committed and confident. D.economical and caring
46.Which of the following can be the best title of the text?
A.Granny’s Care Package B.An Unforgettable Holiday
C.Our Move to California D.A Telephone Call from Granny

(2023秋·重庆·高二重庆市两江育才中学校校联考期末)How many friends do you have? Not counting the hundreds on Facebook or the names gathering dust in your address book. But real friends, the ones cast in stone. The kind who would lend you $100 without asking why, or accommodate you if you were kicked out of your house.
Anthropologist Prof Robin Dunbar feels he can put a number on it: five. No matter how much of a social butterfly you are, you can count your real pals on one hand, he says. To that he says you can add an ideal number of 15 “good friends”, the kind of people you would see in a group and would join for a drink if you bumped into them in the pub, and up to 150 “meaningful contacts”.
Prof Dunbar’s latest research is an exact formula (公式) for friendship: new friendships take 34 hours of one-on-one time to form, in which you’d spend an ideal duration of three hours and four minutes per interaction together over the course of six months. Note that this is to turn an acquaintance into a friend, not one of the close friends that makes up your inner circle of five—to do that, you’d have to devote 90 hours, according to a 2018 University of Kansas study.
According to the experts, the pandemic years have changed the number and nature of our friendship. It gave people more grounds for disagreement: over adherence ( 遵 守 ) to social-distancing rules, for example. Plenty of people lost relationships in the cracks. “We are always on the outlook for new and better friends, but lockdown has had a big effect in making people reevaluate,” says Dunbar. “Perhaps they’ve decided the time has come to part with some and therefore there’s an empty space to fill.”
The forecast for British friendship was already gloomy before the pandemic. Three million people said they feel lonely “often or always”, according to the Government’s 2019 community life survey. But the average British adult lost four friends over the course of the pandemic, according to the poll.
    47.Who are real friends?
A.Those who we keep in contact. B.Those who are interested in stones.
C.the one who is extremely generous. D.Friends on social networks.
48.How long does it take to form close friendships according to the formula?
    A.34 hours of one-on-one time.
    B.90 hours of interaction.
    C.Six months of one-on-one time.
D.Three hours and four minutes of interaction.
49.Which of the following might Prof Dunbar agree with?
A.There is a limit to the number of real friends in your life.
B.It’s much easier for people to make friends online.
C.The more friends you make, the happier your life will be.
D.The more sociable you are, the more real friends you can make.
50.What might people argue about during the pandemic?
A.Whether to part with some old friends.
B.How to tackle loneliness during the pandemic.
    C.Whether to obey social distancing.
    D.How to make better friends.

(2023秋·内蒙古包头·高二统考期末)Researchers have recently discovered that gut microbiome (肠道微生物群)—bacteria that grow within our body-helps the brain build important social skills.
According to a paper published in PLOS Biology in November, zebra fish were used to research subjects to test how a lack of microbiome could alter social skills. Zebra fish are social animals as even 2-week-old fish starts to hang out in groups of 4 to 12.
The experiment started with making a group of fish “germ-free” through their diet. The other group were injected with a healthy mix of gut bacteria after they were hatched (孵化出来). About 15 days later, the second group began swimming in groups while the “germ-free” group “shockingly, didn’t,” Judith Eisen, a co-author of the new research, said to Quanta Magazine.
The team then examined the fish’s brains, discovering obvious differences between the two groups. The ones who lacked the gut microbiome had more interconnections among the neurons (神经元) in their brains in charge of social behavior. It also led to fewer microglia, the neural immune cells (神经免疫细胞) that help clean the brain’s unwanted neurons. With less microglia to clear the brain’s neurons, social neurons were seen to have overgrown. This made the fish more cautious in social situations.
Scientists supposed that the bacteria could release a special chemical that crosses the blood-brain barrier to reach the brain directly. Or, the immune cells might move between the gut and the brain, sending messages. Although the experiments were only on fish, the findings can theoretically be applied to humans. The team wishes to explore how gut microbiome affects the human brain in the future, which may lead to solutions to mental health problems.
Perhaps many people who claim that they have “social phobia” (社交恐惧症) can blame their guts. However, social phobia, or social anxiety disorder, can be a serious illness if overlooked. According to the National Health Service in the UK, it is more than shyness but instead a constant fear of social situations. Patients may experience panic attacks which are an overwhelming fear and anxiety that last for a few minutes.
51.What did the research aim to find out?
A.The causes of social phobia. B.The way zebra fish build social skills.
C.The influencing factors of social behavior. D.The link between gut bacteria and social behavior.
52.How did researchers conduct the study?
A.By examining the fish’s guts. B.By collecting and analyzing data.
C.By observing the fish’s appearance. D.By comparing different groups of fish.
53.What do we know about the fish without gut microbiome?
A.They tend to behave less socially. B.They have more neural immune cells.
C.Their brains have fewer unwanted neurons. D.Their social neurons are loosely connected.
54.What does the author think of social phobia?
A.It is often overlooked. B.It is caused by inactive neurons.
C.It should be taken seriously. D.It affects the amount of gut microbiome.

(2023秋·陕西榆林·高二统考期末)Since time immemorial, people have been searching for the fountain of youth. Surprisingly, the dream of human immortality is, according to some scientists, not so far out of reach.
Professor Brian Cox, Google’s Ray Kurzweil, and Tesla head Elon Musk all agree on not only the possibility of human immortality but also that it is not too far away. The solution, they say, is something called the “technological singularity”
The singularity is a combination of humankind with computers, namely uploading the contents of one’s brain onto a hard drive. In that way, a person’s consciousness can stay alive after a physical body gets worse. This is based on the idea that a human brain is simply a machine, and there is, according to Professor Cox, “no reason at all why we cannot simulate (模拟)human intelligence,” using a computer.
Although Professor Cox did not say when the singularity would occur, Google’s Ray Kurzweil predicts that the singularity will happen as early as 2045. By 2100, he says, human body parts will be replaceable by machine parts. Further, by uploading our brains onto a computer, we will be able to toy with it, and become “able to expand the scope of our intelligence a billion fold.
Elon Musk agreed with the assessments of the other scientists, even going so far as saying that the chances that we are not in a computer simulation right now are “one in billions”.
Google is preparing for a future where you can download personalities onto robots. For example, you might be able to download onto your robot a celebrity personality, or of the personality of your deceased grandmother. The search engine giant filed a patent for this download process recently. So they definitely believe that the singularity is just around the corner. All you have to do is hold on until 2045, and soon you can effectively live in the cloud.

C.By doing experiments. D.By making comparisions.
57.Which of the following can Elon Musk most probably agree with?
A.Computers are much smarter than humankind.
B.Computers can never surpass humankind at all.
C.Computers and humankind are quite different.
D.Computers can be another version of humankind.
58.How can humankind improve by 2100 according to the text?
A.Physically and intelligently. B.Individually and corporately.

(2023秋·辽宁丹东·高二统考期末)The creators of Mission to Mars AR meant it to be educational, with plenty of up-to-the-minute facts and figures about Mars exploration. But don’t let that put you off. It’s also a lot of fun. And it shows how far phone-based AR has progressed in the four and a half years since Pokémon Go, a 2016 AR mobile game, sent millions of people out into the streets searching for imaginary creatures.
The free app, which comes out in time for next week’s landing of the Perseverance rover (探测器) on Mars, is nearly identical in design to the Smithsonian Channel’s Apollo’s Moon Shot released for the 50th anniversary of the moon landing in 2019. In that one, you could use your phone to send a virtual Saturn V rocket into space, and learn about the Apollo astronauts and their machines through more than a dozen interactive experiences. Take some photos on the moon, suited up in the Apollo 11 spacesuit, and share with friends on social media.
Simple AR has taken off in shopping apps and social media in recent years. But Mission to Mars AR shows that the technology is capable of much more than just adding rabbit ears or cool sunglasses to your selfies (自拍). The app offers seven experiences, starting with an overview of Martian geography. Turn the globe in front of you to inspect the planet’s frozen polar caps and vast valleys.
The experiences in Mission to Mars AR add a bit more challenge, but are easy to master after a couple of tries. Guide Perseverance through its “seven minutes of terror” — NASA’s now semi-official term for a Mars landing. The “Mission to Mars” module offers the most interaction. You guide the rover from rock to rock, using a laser to analyze their contents while being careful not to crash or get stuck in the sand. You can even fly a small helicopter on Perseverance, which is sure to be one of the real mission’s highlights.
Just as NASA rovers have advanced from tiny Sojourner in the 1990s to Perseverance, we’ve come a long way from just downloading Mars photos for our desktop wallpaper.
59.What does the underlined words “put you off” in Paragraph 1 mean?
    A.Cheat you. B.Confuse you. C.Destroy you. D.Discourage you.
60.What can players do in Apollo’s Moon Shot?
    A.Launch a virtual Saturn V rocket.
B.Take photos with the Apollo astronauts.
C.Help Perseverance land on Mars safely.
D.Dress themselves in the latest spacesuits.
61.Why does the author mention selfies in Paragraph 3?
    A.To stress their popularity.
B.To encourage people to use social media.
C.To reveal Mission to Mars AR’s progress.
D.To doubt the value of Mission to Mars AR.
62.What is the text mainly about?
A.A cool way to learn about Mars.
    B.Challenges for Mars exploration.
C.Some basic facts about NASA rovers.
D.A new AR app designed for astronauts.

(2023秋·辽宁丹东·高二统考期末)Three years ago, Nikki Robinson found a little raccoon (浣熊) by the road. She saved him and after a bunch of attempts at taking him to wildlife centers and vets, Nikki was disappointed in the lack of help. However, her mother Linda had experience in raising raccoons and after a little persuasion, took the little creature in.
They named him Little Hands and fell in love with the trash panda. Linda and Nikki fed him, raised him, and eventually let him go. To their surprise, Little Hands kept coming back, sometimes after a few days, sometimes a few months. He would come back and ask for hugs, food, and just love.
Little Hands was taken care of by Linda. He was released onto her large property and was allowed to come and go as he pleased. He was very fearful of any human or animal that he didn’t grow up with, but would come back to visit them most nights. Linda would leave food out for him every night and sit outside on the porch swing before bed, waiting for his visit. The first thing he would do is that he would climb over to Linda on the swing, sit beside her, and want pats from her.
“Little Hands stayed with us for about two and a half months before he was fully released into the wild. He has always been a calm, peaceful raccoon, very loving and compassionate, even as he matured. But still wild enough he thrives on his own,” Nikki said.
People asked Nikki what their reaction was when Little Hands returned to them. “Pure joy. And every time he came back it was a more and more joyous occasion especially because he wanted our attention as well as our food.”

(2023秋·陕西渭南·高二统考期末)Recently we celebrated my grandmother’s 90th birthday. Family members traveled to my hometown to visit her. This was the first time in many years that I had seen so many of them. Though this was an opportunity to see family, many people did not make it. Honestly, living far from hometown, I had missed many family gatherings. But this one made me realize how much I was really missing.
It seemed strange when I was looking at the laces, realizing whom they were and greeting them with open arms. After chatting for a while, we caught up on each other’s news. Several relatives suggested having a family reunion soon if everyone wasn’t so busy. But my grandmother’s generation was much busier, yet still found time to gather. They understood the importance of visiting one another. They knew time is flying and that those you care about most won’t be here forever.
Today, we focus on our careers and raising our kids. Our extended family isn’t the center it once was. Besides, we keep in touch on social media. But what we really miss are the potato salad, the moments of laughter and sudden bursts of excitement when we hug someone we haven’t seen for over 10 years. Although the next get-together is always a year or so away, people aren’t goods and everyone has an expiration(到期)dale.
I left my grandmother’s party with a much better sense of who I am and where I come from. I spent valuable time with people who contributed to who I am today. I had forgotten how much I love them and I was reminded how much I am loved.
67.How did the author feel about missing previous family gatherings?
    A.Indifferent. B.Sad. C.Regretful. D.Annoyed.
68.What do we know about the author’s grandmother’s generation?
A.They were carefree. B.They held family dear.
C.They took time seriously. D.They seldom visited family.
69.What does the author mean by the last sentence in paragraph 3?
    A.Family reunions mean no fun.
B.All goods don’t have an expiration date.
C.People are always too busy to get together.
D.We should see loved ones more before it’s too late.
70.Why does the author write the text?
A.To convince readers to meet friends.
B.To share an interesting family reunion.
C.To stress the value of family gatherings.
    D.To compare different generations’ values.

(2023秋·广东广州·高二统考期末)Since I was born and brought up in a rural town, I have a great interest in nature. Using the chance of studying abroad in my second year at college, I decided to go to Canada just because I wanted to see the beautiful phenomena there. So after I finished the study, I went to Yellowknife in the Northwest. I clearly remember the sixth night in Yellowknife. Suddenly my host mother came to my room around 8 p. m. and told me to change clothes and go outside quickly carrying her camera.
The northern lights were flickering (闪烁)in the sky! I was amazed and just stood there with my mouth open. I forgot to take pictures of the mysterious lights.
Since that night, whenever it was sunny, I went outside at night and looked at the sky. It was so cold that my hands and feet were numb with cold. Actually, the time of my being able to be out was limited. I had to bring her camera back to the house in one hour at the most, for the camera was going to be broken because of the cold temperature.
As I took pictures of the northern lights, I came to find a characteristic movement of the lights. They first appear in the north part of the sky and then they gradually come down to the south. After that, suddenly, they come in the middle of the north and south only for a while, which is the time when the best northern lights can be seen. Since it is only a few seconds for the northern lights to come down to the middle of the sky, it is very hard to get good pictures.
The stronger the sun acts, the better and stronger northern lights flicker in the sky. That’s because they occur from the collision(碰撞)between atmospheric gases and solar wind. Much more solar wind comes to the earth when the sun is active, leading to the best northern lights.
74.Why did the author forget to take pictures?
    A.It was freezing cold outside.
B.He was shocked by the wonderful sights.
C.The lights were flickering in the sky.
D.He lost all his feeling in his hands and feet.
75.What can we infer from the passage?
A.The northern lights came out every night.
B.The author took lots of pictures with his camera.
C.The author could stay as long as he liked outdoors.
D.Cameras will be damaged if exposed too long to coldness.
76.When is the best time to see the northern lights?
A.They appear in the north part of the sky.
B.They rise in the east and set in the west.
C.They are between the north and south.
D.They come down to the south part of the sky.
77.Why is it hard for the author to take good pictures?
A.The lights stay in the middle for a very short time.
B.The lights of the sun affect the northern lights.
C.The lights are caused by the collisions of gases.
D.The colours of the lights are determined by the height.

10.推理判断题。根据文章第四段“The “barely rideable” keychain attachments were improved by the producer “Tech Deck”, which started producing a more rideable version of the fingerboard in the 1990s. Soon they began to print actual skateboard patterns onto the fingerboard decks, which made them even more appealing to skateboarders. In the late 1990s, fancy fingerboards with “actual professional skateboard patterns” started to enter more and more toy shops, and before we knew it fingerboards were seen everywhere.(“几乎不能骑”的钥匙链附件由生产商“Tech Deck”改进,该公司在20世纪90年代开始生产更适合骑的指板版本。很快,他们开始在指板甲板上印刷真正的滑板图案,这使它们对滑板爱好者更具吸引力。20世纪90年代末,带有“真正专业滑板图案”的花式指板开始进入越来越多的玩具店,不知不觉,指板已经随处可见。)”可知,手指滑板的“可骑行”让其大受欢迎。故选B。

The app offers seven experiences, starting with an overview of Martian geography.(但Mission to Mars AR表明,这项技术的能力远不止在自拍中添加兔子耳朵或酷炫的太阳镜。该应用程序提供七种体验,首先是火星地理概述。)”可知,该手游中使用的AR技术比自拍相机中的AR技术先进,由此可推断,提到自拍是为了表明AR技术的进步。故选C项。
62.主旨大意题。根据首段中的“The creators of Mission to Mars AR meant it to be educational, with plenty of up-to-the-minute facts and figures about Mars exploration.( Mission to Mars AR的创建者希望它具有教育意义,其中包含大量有关火星探索的最新事实和数据。)”以及下文中对该手游的介绍可知,可以通过这款游戏了解火星的相关知识,所以本文主要是关于“一种很酷的了解火星的方法”。故选A项。

根据第一段“She saved him and after a bunch of attempts at taking him to wildlife centers and vets, Nikki was disappointed in the lack of help. However, her mother Linda had experience in raising raccoons and after a little persuasion, took the little creature in. (她救了他,在多次尝试带他带到野生动物中心和兽医后,Nikki对缺乏帮助感到失望。然而,她的母亲琳达有养浣熊的经验,经过一番劝说,她收留了这个小家伙。)”可知,Nikki收养小浣熊的主要原因是难以找到合适的帮手,故选D项。
64.细节理解题。根据第二段最后一句“He would come back and ask for hugs, food, and just love. (他经常回来要拥抱、食物还有爱)”可知,小浣熊被放生后仍回来的原因是可以得到食物和爱,故选A项。
65.推理判断题。根据第三段“Linda would leave food out for him every night and sit outside on the porch swing before bed, waiting for his visit. ( Linda每天晚上都在外面放食物,并坐在门廊秋千上等着他的来访,直到去睡觉)”可知,Nikki母女非常热心且乐于助人,故选B项。
66.细节理解题。根据最后一段“We share the planet with so many creatures that need to be respected. They are capable of complex social systems and emotions. (我们和如此多的需要被尊重的生物共同分享这个星球。他们能参与复杂的社会系统和情感)”。可知人们应该与其他生物和谐相处,故选C。

    【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章讲述了作者参加了祖母的家庭聚会,在聚会上一家人其乐融融,使作者对家庭聚会的意义有了更为深刻的理解。
67.推理判断题。根据第一段“Honestly, living far from hometown, I had missed many family gatherings. But this one made me realize how much I was really missing.(实话说,我因为离家远错过了许多家庭聚会,但这一次让我意识到了我真正地错过了太多东西)”可知,作者对之前错过家庭聚会感到后悔,故选C项。
68.推理判断题。根据第三段“But my grandmother’s generation was much busier, yet still found time to gather. They understood the importance of visiting one another. They knew time is flying and that those you care about most won’t be here forever.(但是我的祖母那一代人要忙得多,但是她们仍旧找时间聚会。他们懂得相互看望的重要性。她们懂得时光飞逝,而且你在乎的人不会永远都在)”可推理出,祖母那一代人很珍惜与家人相处的时刻,故选B项。
69.推理判断题。根据第三段最后一句“Although the next get-together is always a year or so away, people aren’t goods and everyone has an expiration(到期)dale.(尽管下一次相聚会在左右以后,但是人不是商品而且每个人都有终止日期)”可知,作者要表达的意思是每个家人都会离去,我们应该在家人仍在世的时候,珍惜你爱着的家人,故选D项。
70.推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“I left my grandmother’s party with a much better sense of who I am and where I come from.(我离开祖母的家庭聚会后,对于我是谁我从哪里来有了更好的理解)”可知,作者对家庭聚会有了更深刻的理解,写这篇文章意在强调家庭聚会的的重要性,故选C项。

    【导语】本文是应用文。文章介绍了五个足球友好的酒吧,在那里你可以享受美妙的氛围,一杯冰啤酒和一些美味的食物。
71.细节理解题。根据文章The Belushi’s Sports Bar, London Bridge部分的“They’re strict with IDs, so bring one.(他们对身份证要求很严格,所以带一张吧)”可知,The Belushi’s Sports Bar对身份证要求严格。故选C。
72.细节理解题。根据文章Three Compasses, Dalston部分的“You can enjoy home-made beer and award-winning burgers here (made with Angus beef we’re told.)(在这里你可以喝到自制啤酒和屡获殊荣的汉堡(据说是用安格斯牛肉做的))”可知,在99 Dalston Lane可以喝到自制啤酒并且吃到屡获殊荣的汉堡。因此如果你对汉堡感兴趣,99 Dalston Lane是你的最佳选择。故选A。
73.细节理解题。根据文章The Belushi’s Sports Bar, London Bridge部分的“Other Belushi’s can be found around London(其他Belushi’s也可以在伦敦附近找到)”,以及Sports Bar&Grill, Old Street, Canary Wharf部分的“There are other Sports Bar & Grills across London(在伦敦还有其他的体育酒吧和烧烤店)”可知,Belushi’s Sports Bar和Sports Bar &Grill的共同之处是它们在伦敦还有其他连锁店,故选B。

    【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。作者出生在乡下,对大自然有浓厚的兴趣。他利用大二出国学习的机会去了解加拿大,因为他想观看那里美丽的风景。
74.推理判断题。前文提到“The northern lights were flickering (闪烁)in the sky! I was amazed and just stood there with my mouth open. ”(北极光在天空中闪烁!我很惊讶,只是张着嘴站在那里。)作者被门外北极光的美景所震撼了,因此忘记了拍照。故选B。
75.推理判断题。第三段最后两句提到“Actually, the time of my being able to be out was limited.   I had to bring her camera back to the house in one hour at the most, for the camera was going to be broken because of the cold temperature.”(事实上,我能出去的时间是有限的。我不得不在最多一个小时内把她的相机带回家,因为温度太低,相机快要坏了。)由此判断,相机长时间暴露在低温环境下会受到损伤。故选D。
76.细节理解题。从第四段第三句“After that, suddenly, they come in the middle of the north and south only for a while, which is the time when the best northern lights can be seen.”(在那之后,它们突然出现在南北的中间,只是一会儿,这是最好的北极光可以看到的时候。)可知,当北极光位于北部和南部中间时最佳观看时间,故选C。
77.细节理解题。第四段最后一句提到“Since it is only a few seconds for the northern lights to come down to the middle of the sky, it is very hard to get good pictures.”(由于北极光降落到天空中央只有几秒钟的时间,所以很难拍到好的照片。)由此判断,因为北极光出现在天空中央很短,因此很难拍到好看的照片。故选A。
