People are often surprised by my fear of blood and needles. Working in a public health unit, I probably have more daily interaction with syringes (注射器) than the average person. But the  truth is, having my blood drawn scares me.
When I was 9, I had an extremely high temperature. A nurse rudely stuck the needle into my arm causing a sharp pain. I avoided having blood taken from my body for the next years. A few months before I turned 30, my doctor ordered a blood test as part of my physical exam. I panicked. Sensing my fear, she gently suggested I see a psychiatrist (精神科医生). “Dr. M  helped my other patients with the same fear, ”she said.
When Dr. M called to set up an appointment, I hesitated. Talking about personal problems to a medical licensed stranger was uncommon in my family.  “A psychiatrist?” Mother asked  “He’ll just put you on drugs. Can’t you get over this yourself?” I almost listened. But I went to Dr. M’s clinic finally. “Phobias(恐惧症) are pretty easy to treat, ”he said. I wasn’t convinced of his words, but was running out of options.
We started with basic exposure treatment. I watched videos of blood being drawn every day. As I started to feel more at ease with needles, Dr. M suggested drawing blood. As he gently pressed the needle into my arm I felt dizzy and breathed deeply. After a few minutes, I looked  at the needle. It wasn’t so bad. I didn’t pass out. “You’re doing well, ” Dr. M said.
I still find it unpleasant getting blood drawn, but thanks to several months of treatment, I'm less scared. I hate to admit it but Dr. M is right—phobias can be treated. Sometimes, we have to leave our comfort zone and face our fears. And this can lead to freedom in the end.
    24.What caused the author's phobia?
A.Her sensitivity to pains. B.Her anxiety about the blood test.
C.Her bad medical experience D.Her regular contact with syringes
25.How did the author feel when she first met Dr. M?
    A.Doubtful. B.Hopeless. C.Disappointed. D.Hesitant.
    26.How was the author’s treatment?
A.It eased the author’s pain totally. B.It was smoother than expected
C.It centered on exposure treatment. D.It turned to video-based technology.
27.What's the best title of this text?
A.Ups and Downs Make One Strong B.Walk Toward What Scares Us
C.Bravery Brings Us a Happier Life D.Nurse Our Mental Health Carefully
    C
Why don't we have eyes in the back of our heads? There are at least two reasons. Eyes are biologically expensive things to make and rear view (后视) eyes don't fit well into the human evolution (进化).
Even animals, such as rabbits, whose main survival advantage is rear vision, have only the side eyes. Rear vision is not so important. There are other species that have evolved this ability by moving the position of their eyes relative to the rest of their head. Many birds have their eyes positioned towards the side of their head, allowing them a very wide angle of vision and, in the case of some birds such as the woodcock, they are positioned so they can actually achieve 360- degree vision. It is also obvious that spiders, which tend to have many eyes, only have them facing forwards.
Humans, and probably some other animals, do have another adapted sense to make it up. Many experiments showed that sounds behind the head were noticed by a listener more than sounds to the front, especially if a listener was in a dark room. So our ears can make up for the lack of rear-facing vision. You can look at it another way. Rear vision is useful only if the potential threat is visible. During human evolution, that was most often not the case.
Finally, there is often more than one potential “solution" to a given problem. In many species, the answer to maintaining 360 degree awareness of surrounding danger is to rely on many eyes. Social behavior is common in the animal kingdom and one reason for this is that there is safety in numbers. You might be looking the wrong way when a tiger approaches, but if your teammates raise the alarm this is as effective as having eyes in the back of your head.
28.Why do humans have no rear view eyes?
A.They are bad for human survival.
B.They are replaced by other organs.
C.They are less likely to spot the danger.
D.They are abandoned by natural selection.

29.What is the purpose of paragraph 2?
A.To explain why animals have other functions.
    B.To state rear-view eyes aren't a must for survival.
C.To prove rabbits, birds and spiders are very special.
D.To show rear view eyes are against the natural selection.
30.What does the underlined word“that" in paragraph 3 refer to?
A.The visible threat behind the head. B.Sensitive hearing.
C.The sound behind the head. D.Rear vision.
31.Where does the text most likely com from?
    A.A travel brochure. B.A fiction.
C.A science magazine. D.A book review.
    D
Masks that helped save lives are proving a deadly danger for wildlife, with birds and sea creatures trapped in the shocking number of thrown-away facial coverings. Single-use masks have been found around pavements, waterways and beaches worldwide. Worn once, the thin protective materials can take hundreds of years to break down. “Face masks aren't going away any time soon—but when we throw them away, these items can harm the environment and the animals,” Ashley Fruno of animal rights group PETA said.
In Britain, a gull was rescued by the RSPCA after its legs became tangled(缠住的) in the straps of a mask for up to a week. The animal welfare charity took it to a wildlife hospital for treatment before its release.
The biggest impact may be in the water. More than 1.5 billion masks made their way into the world's oceans last year, accounting for around 6,200 extra tonnes of ocean plastic pollution, according to environmental group Oceans Asia.
Conservationists in Brazil found one mask inside the stomach of a penguin after its body was washed up on a beach, while a dead pufferfish was discovered caught inside another off the coast of Miami. French campaigners found a dead crab trapped in a mask near the Mediterranean. Masks and gloves are “particularly problematic” for sea creatures, says George Leonard, chief scientist from NGO Ocean Conservancy. “When those plastics break down in the environment, they then enter the food chain and impact entire ecosystems.” he added.
There has been a shift towards greater use of reusable cloth masks as the pandemic has spread, but many are still using the lighter single-use varieties. Campaigners have urged people to bin them properly and cut the straps to reduce the risk of animals becoming trapped. Oceans Asia has also called on governments to increase fines for littering and encourage the use of washable masks.
    32.What's Paragraph 1 mainly about?
A.The problem of littering masks. B.The long time to break down masks.
C.The threat of masks to wildlife and environment. D.The protective use of masks to people.
33.What did the animal welfare charity do to the gull?
A.They gave first aid to the bird. B.They released the bird at once.
C.They kept the bird for about a week. D.They sent the bird to hospital.
    34.How is Paragraph 4 developed?
A.By providing examples. B.By giving explanations.
C.By making comparisons. D.By analyzing causes.
35.Which measure has been taken to help solve the problem?
A.Forbidding the use of single-use masks. B.Wearing reusable cloth masks.
C.Cutting the masks up before throwing. D.Increasing fines for binning masks.

It was New Year’s Day, the first day of the year. Lucky for me, it was a day off, so I was thinking about getting my bank work out of the way. The bank person, an elderly gentleman with a white beard, was, as usual, curt (简短失礼的,简略的) to my polite “Happy New Year.” He nodded and I sat in front of him.
    Minutes passed but nothing happened.
Then very uncertain and embarrassed, I put my form and booklet (小册子) in front of him. He was busy filling up entries in his register (登记簿). After a few minutes he took my form and from his cabinet he took out a very thick file from which he started filling in my details. I sat there wondering why we had computerized banking if we were still filling in forms and registers.
After waiting for a few more minutes, in which I showed all signs of being impatient, I asked him if my work was done. The moment I said the words, I felt as if a bombshell had fallen on him. He shouted, “Nothing is done, it will take time!”
Just then I saw his morning cup of tea which had been lying there for the last ten minutes, untouched. The tea had turned almost cold while he was doing his work. Suddenly I felt what this man, who had been working at this counter for the last God-knows-how-many years, must be feeling that when customers like me come, they are always in a hurry to get their work done.

    【答案】Dear Jack,
I am sorry to hear that you are suffering from addiction to mobile phone games. Actually, it is commonly seen that more and more teenagers get crazy about mobile phone games, which distract them from studies. Besides, it causes a lack of sleep, posing a threat to their health.
Therefore, to avoid it, I recommend you to manage your time wisely and responsibly. The less time you spent on online gaming, the less likely it is you will be addicted. Moreover, if I were you, I would prefer to engage with family and friends outdoors rather than sit on the couch looking down at your phone.
I do hope my suggestions will be helpful to you. Looking forward to your good news.

    1.A
【原文】M: I have tried very hard to find a way to solve the problem, but it was useless.
W: Why not ask Frank for help? You see, two heads are better than one.
    2.B
【原文】W: Have you found anything wrong with my heart?
M: No, not yet. I’m still examining. You won’t know the result until tomorrow afternoon.
    3.A
【原文】W: Where were you and your brothers yesterday afternoon? I couldn’t find any of you when I came back home.
M: Mom, Tom and I went to Jerry’s house and Peter went to the cinema with his friend, Iran.
    4.A
【原文】W: Oh, no. My mother reminded me to put the dictionary in my school bag, but I still forgot.
M: You can use my bike to go and fetch it. Here is the key.
    5.C
【原文】W: Honey, you’re finally home. I was worried about you.
M: Sorry, I’m so late. The train stopped at Jefferson Station because of an accident. It was already too late to get the bus, and there weren’t any taxis, so I walked back.
    6.A 7.C

【原文】M: OK, everyone, time for our Monday morning meeting to discuss our recent business.
W: I have got a party to arrange for December. An English school will come to have a Christmas party.
M: Do you know how many people will be in the party and when exactly the party will beheld?
W: I’m afraid I haven’t gotten too much information yet. But I am trying to get more information about it.
    8.A 9.C

    【原文】M: Do you like sports?
W: Certainly. I first started doing sports when I was ten years old. I was learning to play basketball in a team. But it wasn’t a good experience.
    M: Why?
W: The other girls in the team were not so friendly to me. They didn’t talk to me so I felt uncomfortable and alone. Therefore, I left the team. Later, a friend of mine introduced me to badminton and I found I really loved it. I have done that sport for four years before I regularly play tennis.
    10.B 11.B 12.C
【原文】M: Hi, Wendy. I’m going to Isabel’s. Are you coming?
W: No. The things there are too expensive for me. I can’t afford them.
M: Don’t worry. Isabel’s is having clearance sales, and today is the last day.
W: Really? That’s wonderful. Can you wait a minute? I need to change my clothes.
M: All right, but hurry up.
W: Should we ask Cindy to come along? She saw an evening dress made of silk there last month which she liked very much.
M: She has already bought that evening dress.
    W: When?
M: Yesterday. She wore that dress last night, and showed off to everybody at Mr Miles’ party.
W: Oh! That isn’t like her.
M: Hurry up, will you? We’ll have to go to a gas station first and we’d better be there before lunch.
W: All right, all right. I’m ready now. Let’s go.
    13.C 14.B 15.B 16.A
    【原文】M: Where should we eat?
W: I’d like some Chinese food.
M: Hmm...I don’t know about that. Last time we went to a Chinese restaurant, the food was very hot. I got a stomachache afterward.
W: Oh, not all Chinese food is hot. Most of it is just tasty...not hot at all! I’ll take you to a different place this time. They make good soup at the restaurant.
M: Maybe. But I want some real British food. Maybe fish and chips. Let’s go to a restaurant that serves local food.
W: Why would you want British food? It’s all tasteless to me.
M: You’re wrong. Traditional British food can be very good. There was a time when British food was very boring. I don’t know why. But now, people are trying to cook food like they used to in this country. Many restaurants in London are cooking in traditional methods now, and I really like the old style!
W: OK, we’ll go and get some British food this time. But next time I want to take you to that Chinese restaurant.
    M: Deal!
    17.C 18.B 19.C 20.A
W: I’d like you all to listen carefully. I’m not satisfied with the way that the last fire practice went. Please make sure you know what to do this time. We’re going to have the practice next Monday in the morning at a quarter to ten. It’ll take about twenty minutes. When you hear the sound of the fire bell, close the windows and go out of the classroom quickly. Leave your bags and coats in the classroom. In a real fire, there isn’t time to get these. Everyone should leave the school building through the front door. Walk across the car park and then get together by the library. When you are there, your teacher will check your names. You must not run or shout during the fire practice. That’s very important. If you have any questions, please come and see me in my office.
    Thank you.
