We throw 25 milion tons of waste into our rbih bins every year. The number is surprising! That means one family throws away about one thousand kilos of waste every year. In the past, people didn’t throw away things easily. People mended their clothes and wrote them until they couldn’t be used any more. People used to carry shopping baskets when they bought things. But now we use to o many plastic bags in our life.
Do you know that lots of rubbish we throw away could be reused? The UK is one of the worst recyclers (循环利用者) in Europe. In the UK, people reuse only about 80% of their everyday waste. That’s much less than many other countries. Germany recycles 10% of its waste, while Japan recycles 40%.
In England, more and more families start to reuse empty bottles and old newspapers, instead of (而不是) throwing them away. With the effort(努力) of the whole country, we are happy to see some progress(进步) in some places in the UK.
