Qingming, literally (字面上) means “clear and bright”. It is one of the 24 seasonal division points in China. After the festival, the temperature rises and rainfall increases. And then farmers begin to grow crops. Qingming Festival falls on April 4 this year.
As a festival, Qingming is believed to have a history of about 2,500 years. The most important tradition of Qingming is to honor ancestors and remember the dead family members. So Qingming is also called Tomb-Sweeping Day. When sweeping the graves, people pray, clean the tombstones and burn offerings, usually paper money, paper clothes, paper houses and now even a paper phone.
Lots of ancient poets expressed their sad feelings with words. One of the most famous poems describing the festival was the poem Qingming by Du Mu of the Tang Dynasty as follows: A drizzling rain falls like tears on the Mourning Day; The mourner’s heart is going to break on his way. “Where can a wine shop be found to drown my sad hours?” A cowherd points to a cot amid apricot flowers.
Some traditions of Qingming have brought such problems as traffic jams and air pollution or even forest fires. As part of a greener Qingming campaign, people have been encouraged to pay respect to their ancestors and dead family members online, or burn less or no paper money to protect the environment.

Dragons are not real animals, but look like a combination of many animals such as snakes, fish and deer. They have two horns (角) and a long moustache. With fantastic powers, they fly in the sky or swim in the sea. They can make rain, too. The Chinese dragon is a symbol of strength and good luck. The emperors of ancient China loved dragons. Their clothes were covered with pictures of dragons.
We are proud to call ourselves the “descendants of the dragon”. In Chinese, excellent people are often called dragons. A number of Chinese sayings talk about dragons, for example, “Hoping one’s child will become a dragon.”, which means hoping he or she will be successful.

There are also some traditional festivals about dragons in China, such as Dragon Head- Raising Day and Dragon Boat Festival. We have different kinds of activities to celebrate them. Letting kids learn more about science at an early age is easier than you think. It is happening all around us, and you can use daily things to arouse (激发) your children’s interest. Most parents believe it is difficult to help their children with science. But you don’t need a high scientific degree to teach your children science. All you need is that you’re willing to try, to see the world, and to take the time to encourage their natural curiosity. When they strongly want to know about something, they get the ticket to the unknown world.
You can help by having an active attitude (态度) towards science yourself. Then start simply by asking your children questions about the things you see every day. Next listen to their answers without judging (评判) them, which will improve their confidence (自信), and help you decide just what your children know or do not know.
Different kids have different interest, so they need different kinds of science projects. Collecting rocks may interest your young daughter, but your older son may need something more to deal with it. Knowing your children is the best way to find enjoyable learning activities. Here are some more pieces of advice: Choose activities that are the right level of difficulty. If you are not sure, pick something easier. Read the suggested ages on any projects, books, and then make sure that the activity is proper for your children. Let your children choose the project or activity themselves. It’s easy enough to ask rather than force them. Suggest choosing 2 or 3 things your children can do. When a child picks something he or she is interested in, he or she will enjoy it and learn more from it.
    9.What do most parents believe?

A.By judging them. B.By asking them questions.
C.By collecting their answers. D.By deciding what interests them.
12.Which is the best way to find enjoyable learning activities for children?
A.To know the children. B.To improve their confidence.
C.To have an active attitude. D.To offer different kinds of projects.
13.What can we mainly learn from the passage?
A.How to choose activities for children.

I used to hate my mother because she worked a lot and didn’t spend much time with me. Then one Friday morning I took part in a three-day self-help program for teenagers. Whether you believe it or not, that weekend changed my life.
About 100 other teenagers were there. During the first two days I met a lot of great people. I was glad because I made so many friends there.
On Sunday, the leader did an interesting exercise called “Chocolate or Toys”. He asked a girl which she liked better, chocolate or toys. She chose chocolate. Then he asked her to choose again between chocolate and chocolate. Of course, she didn’t have a choice.
This exercise told us that sometimes we don’t have a choice in life, and that sometimes we have to accept something, rather than complaining(抱怨).
A girl stood up and started talking about her mom who was a drug addict(吸毒者) and how much she hated her mother.
“I want a new mom,” she cried.
“Unluckily, you can’t have one,” the leader replied. “You have to accept the mother that you have.”

Sending the Great Heat ship is a tradition in Taizhou. The ship is full of all kinds of meat. More than 50 fishermen take turns carrying the ship as they walk through the streets. The ship will finally be pulled out of the port and burned at sea. People believe that is a symbol of good harvests and health.
Great Heat is a season with most crickets(蚌)in the countryside. Cricket fighting is a popular game for some people in China during this period. The custom(习俗)dates back over 1,000 years ago.

There are some Chinese poems showing Chinese history and culture through ancient expressions. Here we look at one of the classic poems in the history of Chinese literature:
    A drizzling rain falls like tears on the Mourning Day;
The mourner’s heart is going to break on his way.
Where can a wineshop be found to drown his sad hours?
A cowherd points to a cot amid apricot flowers.
In China, around the time of Qingming Festival, there is more rain. The poet is traveling far away from home on these rainy days. The rain and lonely walks lead to the separation of the soul (灵魂) and body, which adds a sad feeling to this poem. The writer, Du Mu describes a rainy scene in a village in the first two lines. Then in the last two lines, the poet wants to find a place to take a rest, drink some wine (酒) and get away from the sad feeling. Where can I find a good tavern? In the last line, a cowherd points to a direction (方向), which describes two people looking far ahead on the rainy day.
In this poem, Du Mu presents a village with apricot flowers around as the direction of the tavern. He doesn’t describe its feature on a rainy day but leaves it to the readers’ imagination.

People often ask me for suggestions about how to learn English. As for it, everyone is different. I’ll share some of my experience. I once took a school year English course in Wuhan University, but I mostly learned English on my own.
One thing I can tell you is that, once you’ve started learning, you should try to think in English as much as you can. If you see something when you’re riding your bike or walking down the street, just think about “How would I say them in English?” At first, it might be with simple words or phrases, but later you should think about longer phrases and sentences. Now I’m in America, and for most of the time, I would think in English and speak it directly. It’s amazing how much this helps.
For several years after I started learning, I was often afraid of talking with others in English because I didn’t want to make mistakes. Finally I got it over. And while traveling in America, I’d try to hang out with friends who couldn’t speak Chinese, so that I’d have no choice but to speak English. And I also decided that if I said something stupid and other people laughed at me, then so be it. After that, my English started improving much more quickly.
Besides, it may be a good idea to ask your American friends to look at the way you’re writing, and give you some suggestions for improvement.

A.stick to it B.depend on it C.overcome it D.understand it
47.To the writer’s surprise, his English improved quickly_________.
A.in the university B.in the middle school
    C.in China D.in America
48.The best title for this passage should be_________.
A.The Importance of English B.My English Learning Experience
C.My University Life D.My American Friends

People of all ages can improve their communities through volunteer work. Lending a hand to a person or organization in need is a great way to show your care. Volunteering has been shown to increase confidence and self-esteem (自尊) while helping people to attain a real sense of satisfaction.
Keep a watchful eye out and you are likely to see volunteers in many roles. Volunteers support others with everything from homework to transportation needs in a community. If you are interested in volunteering in your community, you might want to consider:
◇Walking a dog or doing yard work for a neighbor who is not able to complete these tasks on their own.
    ◇Reading stories to younger children.
    ◇Participating in a community garden.
◇Helping out at a local pet shelter.
◇Cleaning up a park or helping to beautify your school grounds.

Participating in service projects regularly reduces stress and makes people healthier. Volunteering brings people together and strengthens the community. As people step forward to lend a hand, they develop a sense of pride and identity.
Through volunteer work, people learn a lot about how their community works and get to know others who are dedicated (奉献) to having a real and lasting influence on the world. As stated long ago by Aesop, “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.”

There are three common questions about how to improve our English.
The first question is about real English. Some students say that they want to learn real English. But they don’t know what to do. Watching English films is a good way. When we are tired after studying for a long time, we can watch an English film to relax. While watching it, we can also learn real English at the same time.
The second question is about speaking. Most students feel too shy to talk with foreigners. “Where are you from?” “What do you think of China?” These are both good questions to start a conversation. Before we begin, take a deep breath and smile! Smiling always helps.
The third question is about vocabulary. We want to remember all the new words. The problem is that we write them down but forget them soon. Write eight or ten words on a piece of paper and put it in our bedroom. Try to remember them. Spell the words whenever we see them, and change them every day. There is another way, when you’re shopping, counting the English words or saying the English names for everything you see as much as possible.
59.According to the second paragraph, what can we do to learn real English?
A.Talk to foreign friends. B.Remember all words. C.Watch English films. D.Write down words on paper.
60.In this passage, what’s the problem with most of the students speaking English?
A.Too shy to talk to foreigners. B.Don’t know how to learn real English.
C.Can’t remember English words. D.Want to watch English films.
61.How can we start a conversation with foreigners?
A.By taking a deep breath. B.By looking at them and smile.
C.By introducing ourselves to them. D.By asking some good questions.
62.If we want to remember new words, we can write them down and ________ whenever we see them.
    A.search them B.forget them C.spell them D.say them out
63.Which part of a magazine may the passage come from?
    A.Learning tips. B.English stories. C.Foreign culture. D.Students’ life.
I went to my first music festival-We Love Green. It was held over a weekend in a park in Paris. Like most music festivals, it had wonderful singers and music. However, there was something special about this one. You see, this was a green festival!
From the food to the stalls (摊位), everything was as environmentally friendly as possible. The festival was powered by solar energy (由太阳能供电). There were specially labeled bins (贴有标签的垃圾桶) so that the waste could be used again after the festival. Free fresh water was provided for everyone so that guests didn’t need to buy drinks in plastic (塑料的) bottes. There were many stalls for everyone, from little children to the old.
This seems like such a great idea, to make something very fun and not cause great pollution to the environment. I have discovered that there are more events similar to this across the world! Spain is famous for its Tomato Festival, called La Tomatina.
It happens in a small town Bunol on the last Wednesday of August every year. During the festival there are all kinds of activities, but the most exciting part is the tomato fight. It takes place at the end of the long celebration. You are encouraged to throw tomatoes in the fight.
There’re many stories about how the festival began. One of the stories goes that during the 1940’s, some friends started a tomato fight, while another story is about a local band. Anyway, everyone in Bunol seems to have a different story.
Before the tomato fight, there are parades (游行), musical bands, street parties and so on. On the day of the fight, shopkeepers cover their windows and doors in order to keep away from the tomato fight. At the same time, thousands of tourists and local people come to the town square together. Then large trucks (卡车) full of tomatoes arrive. From the back of the large trucks, a great town band starts to throw tomatoes at others. Then the crowds fight back, throwing the tomatoes at anything and anyone. Soon the streets are in the sea of red tomato juice.
Everyone is supposed to obey a small number of rules: You must squash (压烂) the tomato before throwing it and you are allowed to throw nothing but tomatoes.
It is usually over in less than half an hour. Everyone then sets off to the river to clear up. Sounds like fun!

    ___87___
If the context doesn’t help, look at the parts of the word. If you don’t know the meaning of “miner”, try looking at parts of the word. You might know that a mine is a place underground where people get valuable things like coal(煤). Usually, “-er” at the end of a word means “a person who does something”. Seventy percent of our planet is covered by one huge, continuous body of seawater-the ocean. In 2008, the United Nations recognized June 8 as World Oceans Day. It’s a day to think about the important role that the oceans play in our lives, the dangers that are facing our oceans and the action we can take to protect them.
    The importance of our oceans
The ocean is home to a number of animals on Earth, Marine (海洋的) plants provide us with 70% of the oxygen (氧气) we breathe. The ocean controls our climate (气候), providing heat in winter and cool air in summer. It also provides us with food and medicine. No matter where you live on the planet, your life need depend on the ocean.
    The problems facing our oceans
The most serious problem facing the ocean at the moment is plastic (塑料) pollution. Cutting the use of plastic bags and plastic bottles has been an important theme for World Oceans Day for a number of years. Climate change and rising sea temperatures are also huge problems. Rising sea temperatures have something to do with the weather pattern and the increase in extreme weather conditions.
    How to celebrate the day
The day is celebrated in different ways, including special events at aquariums (水族馆) and zoos, beach and river clean-ups, school activities, art contests and film festivals. 这样的活动能使人们想起海洋的重要性。
