英语 分值:120分 时间:90分钟
第一部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分50分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
A
Imagine standing on one spot where the only direction is south. You can experience it if you join a group of just 128 passengers for your trip to the pole of the world. Your icebreaker ship, 50 Years of Victory, will take you to the North Pole, which is more commonly associated with fairy tales.
Days 1 & 2—From Helsinki to Murmansk
Your adventure begins from Helsinki, Finland's capital. From Helsinki, you'll join your fellow passengers on the flight to Murmansk, Russia, where you'll start your voyage to the North Pole and get to know 50 Years of Victory.
Days 3-6—Traveling towards the north in the Arctic Ocean
Being on Victory and feeling the icebreaker as it cuts through the Arctic pack ice is an experience you'll never forget. You'll have plenty of time to get to know your shipmates, and be treated to lectures and discussions about the trip by our expedition team while seeing various birds. There are other things you can do, such as swimming and playing basketball.
Day 7—90° North
Take photos, call your family and wave a flag; just be sure to enjoy your moment at the pole. If environmental conditions permit, you can jump into the icy waters around the North Pole. We'll also attempt to send passengers high above the pole in our hot-air balloon to celebrate this great moment (highly weather dẹpendent).
Days 8 & 9—Traveling towards the south in the Arctic Ocean
As you head further south, you may get lucky and spot polar bears hunting for seals.
Days 10 & 11—Franz Josef Land
This group of 191 islands lies entirely within the Arctic Circle. Here you'll explore Cape Flora and discover historic remains from three ill-fated arctic adventures.
Days 12 & 13—Getting off Victory in Murmansk and flying to Helsinki
When you return to Murmansk, it will be time to say goodbye to 50 Years of Victory. You'll be sent to the airport for your flight to Helsinki.

On the night of 14th June 1904, New York's Chinatown was in a deep gloom(低迷). For the past 20 years, the restaurants were filled with those crazy about a taste of real Chinese cooking "chop suey". But suddenly, all that seemed at risk. A few days earlier, a chef named Lem Sen had arrived, saying he had invented it a decade before while working at a restaurant in San Francisco. His recipe had been stolen by an American diner to make money. Through his lawyer, he demanded restaurants pay him for using his recipe.
Chop suey was first mentioned by Chinese-American journalist Wang Chin Foo in a list of common dishes he thought most attractive to Western tastes. As he explained, "each Chinese cook has his own recipe. The main parts are pork, bacon, chicken, mushroom, bamboo shoots, onion, and pepper, while accidental ones are duck, beef, salted black beans etc. Yet it is often considered by Westerners that this is a 'national dish of China' more than any other dish they've known."
Although a hyperbolic way to introduce this dish, it clearly showed that chop suey was indeed of Chinese origin. Where exactly its roots lay has been debated; but it was probably first cooked in Taishan, Guangdong, where most early immigrants to America had grown up. In 1866, the journalist Allan Forman noticed it as a delicious dish despite its "mysterious nature", and nine years later, the first recipe appeared in magazines, with some un-Chinese ingredients thrown in.
It was not long before a myth making began. In 1896, Li Hongzhang visited New York, and newspapers mistakenly reported that while refusing Western dishes at a banquet(宴会), he had enthusiastically accepted a plate of chop suey. This caused a great hit, and many who never heard of it before simply assumed that it was introduced to the U.S. by Li Hongzhang, which accidentally promoted the dish's popularity.
4. What is the purpose of a chef's story in Paragraph 1?
A. To describe food history. B. To bring out chop suey.
C. To show risky business world. D. To introduce a law case.
5. What would Wang Chin Foo most agree with about chop suey?
A. Fixed ingredients. B. Its popularity overseas.
C. Un-Chinese nature. D. Mixed national identities.
6. When chop suey was introduced in a "hyperbolic" way, it was ________.
A. remarked beyond reality B. explained in greater details
C. praised in something common D. commented based on the origin
7. What can be inferred about the myth making on chop suey?
A. Li Hongzhang promoted this dish. B. Its popularity was based on facts.
C. Mass media belonged to the root cause. D. Public opinions voiced acceptance.

Plastic remains one of the most-used materials for making many of the things we use in our everyday lives. Things made of plastic can be very strong and last a long time. They also do well in extreme heat and cold. Plastic is also much lighter than metal and can easily be formed into different shapes. This makes the material ideal for countless uses across many different industries.
But the widespread use of plastics across the world is causing major problems for the environment. Plastic material is flooding landfills and causing severe damage in the world's oceans. Plastics can take hundreds of years to break down on their own. It has been estimated that even the most reusable kinds of plastic can only be recycled at a rate of 20 to 30 percent. Even when recycling is possible, the process is costly, can use a lot of energy and, in many cases, produces poor-quality materials.
But a team of researchers working at the U.S. Department of Energy says it has created a kind of plastic that could lead to products that are 100 percent recyclable. The team recently reported the discovery in a study in the journal Nature Chemistry. The researchers say the new material is a plastic polymer(聚合物) called polydiketoenamine, or PDK. The team reports that the material can be broken down in parts at the molecular level. It can then be built up again to form plastics of different shapes, textures, colors and more. The researchers say this process can be repeated over and over again—without the plastic material losing any performance or quality.
Brett Helms is a scientist who worked on the study. He said, "Then we would be able to more effectively divert plastic from landfills and the oceans. This is an exciting time to start thinking about how to design both materials and recycling facilities to enable circular plastics."
8. What is the feature of plastic according to Paragraph 1?
A. Light and cold. B. Easy to break down.
C. Firm and changeable. D. Colorful and endurable.
9. What do we know about plastic products?
A. Few are highly recycled. B. They have quality problems.
C. They are environmentally friendly. D. The process of recycling is cheap.
10. What is Helms' attitude to the new plastic?
A. Doubtful. B. Optimistic. C. Indifferent. D. Negative.
11. Where does the text probably come from?
A. A chemistry paper. B. A research plan.
C. A medical report. D. A science magazine.

Would you BET on the future of this man? He is 53 years old. Most of his adult life has been a losing struggle against debt and misfortune. A war injury has made his left hand stop functioning, and he has often been in prison. Driven by heaven-knows-what motives, he determines to write a book.
The book turns out to be one that has appealed to the world for more than 350 years. That former prisoner was Cervantes, and the book was Don Quixote(《堂吉诃德》). And the story poses an interesting question: why do some people discover new vitality and creativity to the end of their days, while others go to seed long before?
We've all known people who run out of steam before they reach life's halfway mark. I'm not talking about those who fail to get to the top. We can't all get there. I'm talking about people who have stopped learning on growing because they have adopted the fixed attitudes and opinions that all too often come with passing years.
Most of us, in fact, progressively narrow the variety of our lives. We succeed in our field of specialization and then become trapped in it. Nothing surprises us. We lose our sense of wonder. But, if we are willing to learn, the opportunities are everywhere.
The things we learn in maturity seldom involve information and skills. We learn to bear with the things we can't change. We learn to avoid self-pity. We learn that however much we try to please, some people are never going to love us—an idea that troubles at first but is eventually relaxing.
With high motivation and enthusiasm, we can keep on learning. Then we will know how important it is to have meaning in our life. However, we can achieve meaning only if we have made a commitment to something larger than our own little egos(自我), whether to loved ones, to fellow humans, to work, or to some moral concept.
Many of us equate(视……等同于) "commitment" with such "caring" occupations as teaching and nursing. But doing any ordinary job as well as one can is in itself an admirable commitment. People who work toward such excellence—whether they are driving a truck, or running a store—make the world better just by being the kind of people they are. They've learned life's most valuable lesson.
12. The passage starts with the story of Cervantes to show that ________.
A. loss of freedom stimulates one's creativity
B. age is not a barrier to achieving one's goal
C. misery inspires a man to fight against his fate
D. disability cannot stop a man's pursuit of success
13. What could be inferred from Paragraph 4?
A. Those who dare to try often get themselves trapped.
B. Those who tend to think back can hardly go ahead.
C. Opportunity favors those with a curious mind.
D. Opportunity awaits those with a cautious mind.
14. What does the author intend to tell us in Paragraph 5?
A. A tough man can tolerate suffering.
B. A wise man can live without self-pity.
C. A man should try to satisfy people around him.
D. A man should learn suitable ways to deal with life.
15. What is the author's purpose in writing the passage?
A. To provide guidance on leading a meaningful adult life.
B. To stress the need of shouldering responsibilities at work.
C. To state the importance of generating motivation for learning.
D. To suggest a way of pursuing excellence in our lifelong career.

Every morning, her mother made all kinds of traditional snacks and sold them in front of their house and cleaned up their neighbours' houses to fulfill their needs. Laila wanted to be a ballerina(芭蕾舞演员). She loves dancing. But her mother told her that it's impossible, because they have no money. Laila said, "I will become a ballerina someday."
