Cruz rushed t help his frightened friend. And the pnd swallwed him, t. Cruz managed t lift himself ut f the water and nt a mre slid sectin. He then cautiusly wrked his way tward Anthny, but he fell in the pnd again. This time, he culdn't get ut.
The bys were in icy cld water and quickly lsing feeling in their limbs(四肢). Cruz was sure that he was ging t die.
Anthny's lder sister had seen the bys fall thrugh the ice and started screaming fr help. Jhn Lavin, a neighbr driving nearby n his way t the stre, heard her. He quickly pulled ver. Seeing the bys, he grabbed(抓住)a nearby buy(浮标), kicked ff his shes, and ran int the water. Lavin made his way t Cruz and Anthny and dragged them back t land. They were taken t hspital, where dctrs discvered that their five-minute stay in the water had lwered their bdy temperature nearly ten degrees.
Luckily, the bys have fully recvered, thugh they are still a little awestruck (敬畏)by their fearless neighbr. “Just t think,” says Cruz, “if he hadn't been there, I culd have died.”

Livestreaming(直播)thrugh platfrms such as Amazn Live and TikTk is an increasingly ppular way t sell gds nline. It usually lasts between 5 and 10 minutes, and smene prmtes a prduct. Viewers can then readily buy it by just clicking n a link.
We analyzed (分析)99, 451 sales cases n a livestream selling platfrm and matched them with actual sales cases. In terms f time, that is equal t ver 2 millin 30—secnd televisin advertisements.
T determine the emtinal expressin f the salespersn, we used tw deep learning mdels: a face mdel and an emtin mdel. The face mdel discvers the presence r absence f a face in a frame(画面)f a vide stream. The emtin mdel then determines the prbability that a face is exhibiting any f the six basic human emtins: happiness, sadness, surprise, anger, fear r disgust (厌恶)Fr example, smiling signals a high prbability f happiness, while an ff-putting expressin usually pints tward anger.
We wanted t see the effect f emtins expressed at different times in the sales cases s we cunted prbabilities fr each emtin fr all 62 millin frames in ur database. We then cmbined these prbabilities with ther pssible aspects that might drive sales—such as price and prduct characteristics—t judge the effect f emtin.
We fund that, perhaps unsurprisingly, when salespeple shw mre negative emtins—such as anger and disgust—the vlume f sales went dwn. But we als fund that a similar thing happened when the salespeple shw high levels f psitive emtins, such as happiness r surprise.
A likely explanatin, based n ur research, is that smiling can be disgusting because it lacks true feelings and can reduce trust in the seller. A seller's happiness may be taken as a sign that the seller is gaining interests at the custmer's expense.
28. What des Paragraph I tell abut livestreaming sales?
A. It increases the prices f prducts. B. It helps sellers save mney n ad.
C. It makes shpping cnvenient fr buyers. D. It prmtes better buyer—seller relatinship.
29. What des the underlined wrd “ff—putting” n Paragraph 3 prbably mean?
A. Uneasy. B. Unpleasant. C. Lively. D. Strange.
30. Hw d custmers feel abut the seller's smiling?
A. They feel cheated. B. They feel satisfied.
C. They feel respected. D. They feel trusted.
31. Which f the fllwing culd be the best title fr the text?
A. Livestreamers Sell Prducts Successfully B. Smiling: A Way t Increase Sales
C. Emtins: Means f Cmmunicatin D. Expressins Influence Online Prduct Sales

Hw many phne numbers can yu remember by heart? It's prbably fewer than yu wuld like. Actually, yu are nt alne. Out f mre than 1, 000 Americans wh were surveyed, mre than half said that they culdn't recall the phne numbers f their friends and neighbrs. If yu're relying n yurself t keep track f thse memries, they will be much mre meaningful.

C. rte memrizatin n lnger exists in mdern life
