Despite being cnnected nline, n matter what state yu’re frm, each city still retains its wn language and slang. At my public high schl in Ls Angeles, we had ur wn secret language. A party was a “yart”. A beer was a “brewsky”. If I tried t use these wrds in frnt f anyne that didn’t live in Ls Angeles, they wuld have n idea what was ging n. When I came t cllege and used these wrds arund my rmmate frm the East Cast, she wuld lk at me with a blank stare.
Teenagers are ften blamed fr pulling apart standard linguistic patterns. The way my parents used t talk isn’t the same way that teenagers talk nw. But it reflects the dynamic nature f language, which evlves ver time due t varius influences, including generatinal shifts and technlgical advancements. Teenagers, at an age when they are actively explring their identity and seeking t differentiate themselves frm previus generatins, ften play a significant rle in this evlutin.
It’s interesting t nte that peple arund the wrld all have different terms fr everyday things. Last year, I came acrss a British shw called Lve Island, which is a reality shw that mixes peple frm different parts f the U. K. in a “villa”(anther wrd Americans dn’t typically say) fr abut eight weeks. As a bystander, the way they talked felt s elegant and fun, but t them, it was just nrmal.
Whether the way we talk is reginal r frm nline, the sul f cmmunicatin lies in its pwer t cnnect peple, fster understanding, and facilitate interactins that shape ur persnal and scial lives. I have ften fund it’s the way we cnnect with the peple we live arund.

    A. It is specific t Ls Angeles.B. It is t infrmal.
    C. It is utdated.D. It is frm nline.

    B. By applying advanced technlgy.
    C. By fllwing previus language patterns.
    D. By finding their wn vice.
    26. Why des the authr mentin the British shw in paragraph 3?
    A. T demnstrate wrldwide language diversity.
    B. T speak highly f British English.
    C. T recmmend a reality shw.

Avid setting arbitrary deadlines and instead think abut hw lng a task will realistically take t cmplete. While this might nt be clear, cnsider past experiences as a guide.
While Parkinsn’s Law is a phenmenn that can lead t wasted time and incmpetence, it desn’t have t be a prblem if yu’re aware f it. Using sme f the strategies abve, yu can avid falling victim t Parkinsn’s Law and make the mst f yur time.

    B. Shrtening the estimated time t finish each task.
    C. Making flexible deadlines.
    D. Keeping busy t fill in wrkdays.
    31. What wuld be the intentin f the text?
    A. T prmte mre efficient task management.
    B. T criticize sme wrng practice.

    D. T suggest a self-disciplined lifestyle.

“I was nt exceptinal at all,” Claudia Gldin nce tld me f her time as an ecnmics PhD student at the University f Chicag. But as the curse prgressed, she said, “I felt like lightbulbs were ging n in my head.” On Octber 9 the brightness f thse lights was cnfirmed, as she was awarded the Nbel Prize in Ecnmics “fr having advanced ur understanding f wmen’s labur market utcmes”.
Gldin fund men relatively dull, at least as a tpic f study. Their labur was unifrm cmpared t that f wmen, wh might switch between caring fr children, tiling(辛苦工作)in the family businesses r sweating smewhere else. But this cmplexity was harder t measure. Accrding t America’s histrical statistics, fr example, their ccupatin was ften unhelpfully listed as “wife”. S Gldin set ut t measure their wrk prperly.
The standard pattern f develpment was nce that as cuntries gt richer, wmen were pulled int the labur market. But by painstakingly stitching tgether different data sets, Gldin established that America’s path was mre cmplicated, and that grwth in the 1800s cincided with wmen mving away frm wrk ther than dmestic labur.
Why? Fr a start, factry jbs were harder t cmbine with childcare than, say, sewing at hme. And richer families culd affrd t spare wmen the indignity f til. Gldin argued that stigma(污名) reinfrced this, r the idea that “nly a husband wh is lazy and neglectful f his family wuld allw his wife t d such labur.” Later the stigma faded—the ffice clerk jb f the 20th century was easier, and cnsistent with the impressin f a supprtive spuse. With the arrival f tight labur markets in the 1950s, discriminatry plicies against hiring married wmen were virtually abandned.
Tday, wmen still wrk and earn less than men. As scial nrms have shifted and real barriers have fallen, Gldin says that mst f the remaining gender gaps facing cllege-educated wmen are due t smething else. S-called “greedy jbs” reward rund-the-clck wrk and are cnflicting with being n call fr children. Perhaps men shuld als share the family burden and allw their partners t be mre prfessinally invlved instead.
    32. Hw des Claudia Gldin find wmen’s dmestic labur?
    A. Cmplicated t understand.B. Tricky t assess.
    C. Less changeable than men’s wrk.D. Mre valuable than men’s career.
    33. Which f the fllwing is the case fr American wmen in the 1800s?

    B. They were cmfrtable enugh nt t wrk.
    C. They std a gd chance in ffice jbs.
    D. They were still stuck in husehld chres.
    34. Why des the authr mentin “greedy jbs” in paragraph 5?
    A. T explain the current gender gaps.
    B. T intrduce the emplyee reward system.
    C. T call n men t stay at hme.
    D. T expse the greedy nature f capitalists.
    35. Which f the fllwing can be the best title fr the text?
    A. Gender Pay Gap Research Wins the Nbel Prize in Ecnmics
    B. Hw Gldin Transfrmed Our Understanding f Wmen’s Wrk
    C. Wmen’s Century-Lng Jurney Tward Equality
    D. D Greedy Jbs Cause the Gender Pay Inequality?
