When Zhu Caiping, 73, was diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment three years ago, she found that anxiety, depression and even looking down on herself became normal in her life. It was not until last year, after she participated in a reality show and became a restaurant server, that her situation began to improve dramatically.
The restaurant in Shanghai where she works is the Forget Me Not Cafe. It shares the goal of providing job opportunities for elderly people who have Alzheimer’s disease or other cognitive impairments.
“I provide basic services for guests, such as pouring water, serving and taking orders. I can now remember all the dishes on the menu,” said Zhu, who has come to the restaurant three times a week since February and works three hours a day. “The colleagues take good care of us. The never allow us to deliver hot dishes such as soups. The guests are also very tolerant of us, because sometimes we make mistakes.”
Because of memory loss, Zhu writes down all the information she wants to remember on sticky notes, such as the names of the volunteers and teacher as well as English words.
“People with cognitive impairment actually refuse and fear to communicate with society but this will worsen their condition.” She added, “With the deterioration (退化) of brain function, they may gradually lose memory and the ability to take care of themselves and might even see the loss of emotions.” In addition to the job opportunities for the elderly, information about cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s disease is posted on a board outside the restaurant to help people recognize symptoms and seek treatment as soon as possible.
As China faces an aging population, the increasing number of seniors with cognitive impairment has become a significant social issue. “We should feel lucky that the whole of society is concerned about the seniors, especially for people like us. The neighborhood committee always checks on our situation and watches for other elderly people with symptoms.” Zhu said.
24.What can we know about Zhu Caiping?
A.She always made mistakes at work.
B.She made efforts to be equal to the job.
C.She was a full-time restaurant server in a Shanghai café.
D.She was one of those suffering from severe cognitive impairment.
25.How might people with cognitive impairment feel?
A.Forgetful and upset. B.Anxious but lucky.
C.Tolerant and careful. D.Indifferent but energetic.
26.Why is information about cognitive impairment posted outside the restaurant?
A.To provide treatment for the sick. B.To seek approval from the citizens.
C.To offer the elderly job opportunities. D.To equip people with relevant knowledge.
27.In which section of a newspaper the passage most likely be found?
A.Health. B.Society.
C.Culture. D.Business.

To tackle the problem of tiny plastics polluting waterways, chemists in the Czech Republic are thinking small. Their brainchild is a new microrobot which is no bigger than the tip of a sharpened pencil. When sunlight hits them, they produce chemical reactions that push them through water in a specific direction. When they find a piece of plastic, they stick to it and start to break it down.
Chemist Martin Pumera at the Czech University led the project. A decade ago, he chose to focus on the problem posed by microplastics. They’re everywhere—from the bottom of the ocean to air blowing onto ice atop mountains. They’ve turned up in drinking water. Some studies estimate that billions of pieces of plastic end up in the world’s waters. The plastic has many sources, from shopping bags to washing and cleaning wipes.
In lab experiments, the star-shaped swimmers stuck onto each of four different types of plastic. And after a week exposed to light, the robots had reduced the weight of the plastics. It wasn’t much—only by percent. But that was an indication that they were breaking the plastic down. They also caused the surface of the plastic to change from smooth to rough. That’s another sign that the robots were degrading (分解) it. The new study is a proof of concept type. That means it shows something can be done successfully.
In fact, Pumera says they still have a long way to go. There are many types of plastics. And even these microrobots are unlikely to succeed in degrading them all. The researchers also have not yet shown how safe this system is for the environment, although Pumera says that’s their next goal. The first real-world test will be in a wastewater-treatment plant. “Indeed,” says one researcher. “We’ll need a lot of testing to show that they’re safe in open waterways, such as at sea.”
28.The microrobots are powered by ______.
A.water B.sunlight C.plastics D.pencils
29.What does the author focus on in Paragraph 2?
A.The purpose of Pumera’s project. B.The preciousness of drinking water.
C.The seriousness of plastic pollution. D.The working principle of the microrobots.
30.What shows the effectiveness of the microrobots in lab experiments?
A.The weight loss of the plastics. B.The disappearance of the plastics.
C.The shape change of the microrobots. D.The improvement in the purity of water.
31.Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?
A.Ways to Obtain Cleaner Drinking Water B.Microrobots Invented to Treat Wastewater
C.New Hope for the Solution to Plastic Pollution D.Technology Widely Applied in Environment Protection

Tropical (热带的) birds deep in Brazil’s Amazon rainforest are shrinking and developing longer wings as they adapt to climate change but why is something of a mystery.
Researchers have studied data for 77 tropical bird species over the past 40 years and found that all of them had lost body mass. Some species have been losing nearly 2 percent of their weight per decade.
Birds and mammals of the same species are generally larger at higher latitudes. The leading explanation is that their smaller surface-area-to-volume ratio (比率) allows them to better conserve heat. The opposite would help smaller species in hot climates to cool and could explain why birds are getting smaller as the climate warms, says Vitek Jirinec at the Integral Ecology Research Center in California, who led the analysis.
In line with this, the mean temperature of the birds' habitat today is 1℃ warmer in the wet season and 1.6℃ warmer in the dry season compared with 1966. Weather patterns are also more extreme, with 13 percent more rain falling in the wet season and 15 percent less in the dry season, and the birds lost mass more sharply after extremely dry or wet seasons.
This could suggest that body mass loss is partly a short-term response to changes in their environment rather than entirely down to evolution. For instance, a lack of rainfall could cause a decline in the number of insects that the birds feed on, say the researchers.
But none of this can explain the team's other main finding. Wingspan has become significantly larger in one-third of the bird species over the past 40 years. “Mass is a generally good measure of body condition in birds,” says Jirinec. “If they are simply not getting enough to eat, you would expect them to lose weight. But why would they have more energy to grow their wings?”
32.Why are some birds larger at higher latitudes?
A.To preserve heat. B.To find food better.
C.To fight against heat. D.To adapt to climate change.
33.On what condition do birds shrink faster?
A.When they are hungry. B.When there is less rain.
C.When they lose their habitat. D.When they experience extreme seasons.
34.What remains to be settled by researchers?
A.Why tropical birds develop longer wings. B.How Amazon rainforest is decreasing.
C.Why some birds are smaller in hot climates. D.How temperature of the birds' habitat changes.
35.Where is the text probably taken from?
A.A personal diary. B.A travel brochure. C.A science magazine. D.A science novel.

Why You Should Stop Complaining
When living out our daily lives, it’s often easy to blame the world for our problems. ____36____ But the biggest difference is simply our reactions to them. Here are three reasons why you should change your reaction to a situation and stop complaining.
The world owes you nothing.
The world really does have nothing to do with you or anyone else. The planet will continue to exist without you on it. ____37____ However, it really isn’t the case once we’re an adult. The world doesn’t provide us with the same blanket of comfort as our carers once did, which only means one thing: It’s up to us to provide that blanket for ourselves and no one else.
____38____
If you look back at your own life, you’ll begin to realize that everything you have ever done was all a result of the decisions you’ve made sure there may have been people around you who have convinced you to do something. But it all ultimately depends on your decisions. ____39____ Your life is just like a blank canvas, and you are the painter. Start to think about what your hopes and dreams might be and remind yourself daily that it’s all up to you to make things happen.
You can’t be a leader if you behave like a victim.
It’s really easy to put blame on things that are external to you. ____40____ So what can you change? Being a leader in your life takes courage and requires the willingness to face your fears, experience failure, and take complete personal responsibility of everything that happens to you.
A.What are you worrying about?
B.So who’s really to blame?
C.You are in charge of your own life.
D.You are helped by people around you.
E.We were nurtured and looked after as kids.
F.It’s true that there are things in the world we can’t control.
G.As it avoids personal responsibility and allows you to refuse the possibility that you may have things that can be changed.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My wife, Megan, and I went out to dinner with an old friend who we had not seen for a while. There had been some talk of COVID-19 on the news, but it was early in the outbreak and people were still going about their daily routines. Even though everyone in group felt perfectly, we took precautions (预防): we washed our hands with soap and used hand sanitizer (洗手液), did not share food, and had no significantly close contact.
A few days later, our friend called and told us that she had tested positive for the coronavirus. She had felt some mild symptoms for a day or so after that dinner and was able to be tested because she is a doctor. On the following day, I started to feel a little tired and my head was a bit cloudy. I decided to stay in the master bedroom away from the rest of my family. The next morning, I woke up with a 39-degree fever. That was when we realized that I might have caught the virus from our friend.
At once, Megan called our state’s coronavirus hotline, who then called in our primary care doctor and the head of our local hospital system’s coronavirus team. We explained that we had been in contact with someone who had been tested positive, and I was having symptoms. They quickly approved me to receive a test at an urgent care center located 5 kilometer’s drive from my house. The result made my heart sink-I was also tested positive, and the local hospital didn’t have the facilities for my disease. As a mild case, I was recommended to stay home and quarantine (隔离) myself.
Following the doctor’s advice, Megan and I quarantined ourselves and our kids. With my symptoms developing, I started isolation in the bedroom, and the only interaction I had with Megan was when she brought in food. She slept on a small couch in our home office away from the kids’ rooms. She also minimized her contact with our kids in case she was carrying the virus.
