It can be a big headache to balance your developing mental needs too.You enter a strange middle ground—no longer a small child but not quite an adult. You have both a new desire for independence and a continued need for your parents love and support. You feel ready to be more responsible and make decisions on your own.Unfortunatelyyour parents do not always agree and that makes you feel unhappy.“Why can’t they just let me goyou may wonder. On the other handwhen you are struggling to control your feelingsyou wish they could be more caring and patient—sometimes they forget that growing up is a rough ride.It can be difficult when your parents treat you like a child but expect you to act like an adult. All of this can lead to a breakdown in your relationship.

Although sometimes it may seem impossible to get along as a familyyou can take action to improve the situation. The key to keeping the peace is regular and honest communication. When you disagree with your parentstake a minute to calm down and try to understand the situation from their point of view.Perhaps they have experienced something similar and do not want you to go through the same pain. After you have thought it throughexplain your actions and feelings calmlylisten carefullyand address their concerns.Through this kind of healthy discussionyou will learn when to back downand when to ask your parents to relax their control3】.

I grew up and left home for college and since thenmy dad had been calling me every Sunday morning. And when I bought a house several years latermy dad painted it by himself in the fierce summer heat. All he asked was to talk to himbut I was too busy in those days.

Four years agomy dad visited me.He spent many hours putting together a swing for my daughter. He asked me to have a talk with himbut I had to prepare for a trip that weekend.

One Sunday morning we had a telephone talk as usual.I noticed that my dad had forgotten some things that we discussed lately.I was in a hurryso our conversation was short.Several hours later that day I received a call.My father was in hospital.Immediately I bought a plane ticket and on my way I was thinking about all the occasions I missed to have a talk with my dad.By the time I arrived at the hospitalmy father had passed away. Now it was he who did not have time for a conversation with me.I realized how little I knew about my dadhis deepest thoughts and his dreams.

After his death I learned much more about him and even more about myself. All he ever wanted was my time. And now he has all my attention every single day.
