    1.阅读下列短文内容,然后从每题所给的四个选项中选择最佳选项。

According to a recent study, there are about 70,000 blind children in Indonesia. Among them, 60 percent were not born blind. Iyehezkiel Parudani is one of them, who lost his eyesight by accident at age six. He now teaches English to blind students at the Pajajaran Special SchooL Iyehezkiel Parudani says learning English can help blind people feel better about themselves. "By learning English, they can be an English teacher, a translator, and a tour guide. " Students read using Braille (盲文). To write, they use special tools, too.

Iyehezkiel Parudani says blind people should not let their physical disability influence their dreams. In 2008 , he got a chance to study at the University of Texas. Two years later, he got a master's degree in course development there.

"In the US, if I go to the university to study, everything is available - like e-books, Braille books. Here in Indonesia, you know, it’s difficult to find a reference book in e-book or in Braille.  We have to make it ourselves. In the US, I can move wherever I want because everything designed is really accessible for people with blindness. "Eha Lestari, one of his star students, says learning English has changed her life. She has already traveled to the US with the help of an Indonesia-U. S.  program. "I study English because I love English very much. I want to be a translator because I want to go to the other countries and then I want to meet some people from around the world. "

Like her classmates, Eha loves to sing. Here, music is part of daily life. Even the students who do not study English can sing some American pop songs, such as Stand By Me , "Stand by me. Please stand, stand by me. Stand by me.... "

Iyehezkiel Parudani says the song has special meaning to the students. "In our life, we need other persons. You have to stand by me. Without you standing by me, I'm meaningless. "

    2.阅读下面材料,然后从各小题所给的四个选项中选出最佳选项。

If you want to become a fluent(流利的)English speaker you should take some advice: There are four skills in learning English. They are reading, listening, speaking, and writing. The most important thing you must remember is that if you want to improve your speaking and writing skills you should first master the skills of reading and listening.

Read as much as you can. But your reading must be active. It means that you must think about the meaning of the sentence, the meanings of the unfamiliar words, etc. There is no need for you to pay much attention to grammars or try to understand all the unfamiliar words you come across, but the fact that you see them for the first time and recognize them whenever you see them, for example in other passages or books, is enough. It would be better to prepare yourself a notebook so you can write down the important words or sentences in it_

As for listening, there are two choices: besides reading, you can listen every day for about 30 minutes. You can only pay attention to your reading and become skillful at your reading, then you can catch up on your listening. Since you have lots of inputs in your mind, you can easily guess what the speaker is going to say. This never means that you should not practice listening.

For listening you can listen to cartoons or some movies that are specially made for children.  Their languages are easy. Or if you are good at listening you can listen to VOA or BBC programs every day. Again the thing to remember is being active in listening and preferably taking some notes.

If you follow these pieces of advice, your speaking and writing will improve automatically, and you can be sure that with a little effort they will become perfect.

(1)According to the author, which should you improve first among the four skills?

    A. Reading and writing.

    B. Reading and listening.

    C. Writing and speaking.

    D. Speaking and listening.

(2)The underlined phrase "come across" in Paragraph 2 can probably be replaced by "_______".

    A. meet by accident

    B. discover

    C. find on purpose

    D. look for

(3)The author seems to agree with the view that_______.

    A. everyone should listen to VOA or BBC programs every day

    B. you needn't practice listening if you keep on reading every day

    C. being good at reading is helpful in improving your listening

    D. you should take notes of whatever you are hearing

(4)The passage is mainly about how to_______.

    A. choose suitable listening materials

    B. deal with new words in reading

    3.阅读下列短文,选出最佳选项。

Happiness is for everyone. You don't need to care about those people who have beautiful houses with large gardens and swimming pools or those who have nice cars and a lot of money and so on. Why? Because those who have big houses may often feel lonely and those who have cars may want to walk on the country road in their free time.

In fact, happiness is always around you if you put your heart into it. When you are in trouble at school, your friends will help you. When you get success, your friends will say congratulations to you. And when you do something good to others, you will feel happy, too. All these are your happiness. If you notice a bit of them, you can see that happiness is always around you.

Happiness is not the same as money. It is a feeling of your heart. When you are poor, you can also say you are very happy, because you have something else that can't be bought with money. When you meet with difficulties, you can say loudly you are very happy, because you have more chances to challenge yourself. So you can't always say you are poor and you have bad luck. As the saying goes, life is like a revolving door. When it closes, it also opens. If you take every chance you get, you can be a happy and lucky person.

(1)Those who have big houses may often feel ______.

    A.happy          B. lonely         C. free          D. excited

    (2) When you fall down in a PE class, both your teacher and your classmates will ______.

    A.laugh at you

    B. be proud of you

    C. quarrel with you

    D. help you up

(3)The underlined word “revolving”means “______” in the passage.

    A.两面的          B. 旋转的         C. 玻璃的         D. 不动的

(4)Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?

A.People who have cars would never like to walk in the open air.

B.You can get help from others when you make mistakes.

C.You can still be a happy person even if you have little money.

D.Happiness is always around you though difficulties come towards you.

(5)10. The best title of this passages is “______”.

    A.Bad luck         B. Good luck         C. Happiness          D. Life

Should Shanghai bid for(申办) the Summer Olympics in 2028? Here are some people’s opinions.

Some people said, “The games will improve Shanghai’s global influence and the city is powerful and must try to become a platform(平台) for major international dialogues.4(3)Shanghai has succeeded in holding the World Expo in 2010 and the city can also hold a successful Summer Olympics.” Others, however, are not sure that it’s a good idea. They think the Olympics would be too expensive and the money could be better spent on other things.44.The 2008 Beijing Olympics brought much prestige(声望) to the city and to China, but its cost, over $40 million, was high and the Olympic site(场地) in the center of the city is now largely unused. Could Shanghai learn from Beijing’s experience and do it better?

My answer is yes. As one American said, “A great city has to do great things.” Shanghai is a great city and is not afraid of facing challenges. Holding the 2028 Summer Olympics would prove that.

    5.阅读下面的文章,选择正确的答案.

Children are natural scientists, very interested in the world around them. Helping them enjoy science can be easy; there’s no need for a lot of scientific terms(科学术语)or modern labs. You only have to share your children’s interests.

Firstly, listen to their questions. I once visited a classroom of seven-year-old children to talk about science as a job. The children asked me “textbook questions” about schooling, the money I got and whether I liked my job. When I finished answering, we sat facing each other silently. Finally I said, “Now that we’ve finished with your lists, do you have questions of your own about science?”

After a long wait, a boy put up his hand, “Have you ever seen a grasshopper(蚱蜢) eat? When I try eating leaves like that, I get a stomachache. Why?” This began a lot of questions that lasted nearly two hours.

Secondly, give them time to think. Studies over the past 30 years have shown that, after asking a question, many teachers usually wait only one second or less for an answer, no time for a child to think. When teachers increase their “wait time” to three seconds or more, children give better answers.

Thirdly, watch your language. When the child is having a science discussion, don’t jump in with “That’s right” or “Very good”. These words work well when it comes to encouraging a child to help others. But in talking about science, these words make a child think that the discussion is over. Instead, keep things going by saying, “That’s interesting” or “I’ve never thought of it that way before”, or coming up with more questions or ideas.

Lastly, show; don’t tell. Let children look at their hands through a microscope(显微镜), and they’ll understand why you want them to wash before dinner….

(1)To help children enjoy science, the most important thing for teachers to do is ___________.

    A. let them see the world around

    B. let them study in modern labs

    C. tell them the difficult terms on science

    D. share the children’s interests

(2)In the last sentence of the second paragraph, the words “your lists” mean ____________.

    A. your answers to the questions

    B. your own questions about science

    C. your questions from textbooks

    D. all the questions of your own

(3)According to the passage, children can give better answers to the questions if teachers ____.

    A. ask them to answer quickly

    B. wait for one or two seconds after a question

    C. tell them to watch their language

    D. wait at least three seconds after a question

(4)The writer talks about all of the following ways except that teachers should ____________.

    A. tell their children stories instead of telling them to remember facts

    B. offer their children chances to see things for themselves

    C. allow enough time for their children to find answers to the questions

    D. encourage their children to ask questions of their own

    (5) The writer of the passage is probably ____________.

    A.a teacher

    B.a scientist

    C.a seven-year-old boys father

    D.a reporter

    9.阅读下面的文章内容,选出正确的答案。

When the traffic lights turn red, we will stop driving a car or crossing a street. Why is red used for traffic lights instead of other colors?

As we know, scattering(散射)happens when light goes through the air. For the same media(媒介), if the wavelength is long, the scattering will be short. If the wavelength is short, the scattering will be long.

Of all lights we can see red has the longest wavelength, so the scattering is the weakest. That means the red travels far. In fact, it travels faster on rainy days.

Using the red light can help drivers in farther areas see the lights. It helps drivers slow down or stop in time. If drivers don’t see the red light until they are close, they may not be able to stop the car in time. An accident may happen. Red can also excite people. We can act more quickly when we see the color red. In a word, red lights help drivers stop in time and help prevent accidents.

(1)When the traffic lights turn _______, we will stop driving a car.

    A. red       B. green      C. yellow      D. dark

(4)What can the red light help drivers do?

    A. It can help drivers in farther areas see the lights.

    B. It helps drivers slow down or stop in time.

    C. It can make the drivers act more quickly.

    D. All the above.

(5)Which of the following is the best title?

    A. Why do accidents happen?

    B. How does the red light travel?

    C. Why do we use red traffic lights?
