In recent years，natural disasters have been frequently(频繁地) reported in China，so it is commonly believed that more natural disasters，especially more earthquakes，are striking China.The newspaper is flooded with the reports about the big earthquakes such as those happening in Wenchuan，Ya’an and Yushu.Some people can’t help asking: do earthquakes happen more frequently than before? Why? Actually，China has always been the most affected country by earthquake in the world.

The first reason for this misunderstanding(误会) is that many Chinese aren’t quite familiar(熟悉) with geography situations of their own country. The experts said that most Chinese people don’t know the truth that China is one of the countries most affected by earthquake in the world.It is said that the western region(区域)of China is more likely to be hit by earthquake than the eastern region.The reason why people do not hear the news about the earthquakes happening in western region is that few people lived in these places and no one died.
The second reason is that people become more aware of(意识到) the environmental problems and begin to care about the relationship with nature. Besides，the advanced communication technologies like the Internet，TV and radio help the bad news about disasters spread all over the country and even the world.These reports about disaster flood the newspaper，TV and the website，thus making people believe there are more earthquakes than ever before.In a word，the lack(缺乏) of knowledge on our country’s geography and the misunderstanding made by the widespread news lead Chinese to the wrong thought of more earthquakes happening in China.
